It's quite evident that in the ancient history of mankind, a civilization-state as large as China, capable of maintaining long-term unity, is extremely rare. Why has Chinese civilization not only persisted uninterrupted but also maintained a high degree of unity? In the third episode of the series 'Classics of Chinese Thought,' renowned political scientist Professor Zhang Weiwei and the host discuss the journey of Chinese civilization from the starry sky to the unity of pluralism.

I listened to an audiobook on Chinese history, and the writer raised the question of why did'nt the Chinese people develop into a warlike society, as was happening in the West. He speculated that the Chinese state of civilized mind, had better things to do than use technology as a weapon.

@@Sean-giang Yes, they had warriors and internal wars, but the West had Battleships, better guns, explosives, etc. Considering the fact that the Chinese had the same technological knowledge as the West, why was the West's military more potent? Once again, the author proposed that the effects of Confucianism made the Eastern leaders less inclined to make better tools of war. Other than that, I yield to your knowledge of Chinese War history. 🙂

My favorite three facts about China. 1) Gunpowder is 火药 Huǒyào, i.e. fire medicine. Its origins date back to the 800s but wasn't widely used in warfare until the end of the Song dynasty and its conquest by the Mongols. Its discovery was due to Taoist alchemists searching for elixirs of immortality.
    2) Taoist alchemy, or 內丹, neidan, internal alchemy, and 外丹, waidan, external alchemy, is intriguing on its own. The main goal was not searching for the philosopher's stone or other ways to turn base metals into gold, and achieve a life of luxury, but to become immortal. Why? To join the other Taoist immortals who appear to spend most of their time reading poetry, drinking wine, and hanging out with each other.
    3) The 大運河, the Grand Canal, connected the Yangtze and Yellow river valleys. Regional canals in each river valley date back to the sixth century BC, but those were connected by the Sui dynasty in 609 AD, and became the main artery of Chinese civilization. Most of it is still navigable today. The Great Wall is interesting, but the Grand Canal truly represents the strength of their culture in my opinion.

Chinese are very different in how they respect and preserve written history, unlike its neighbours. These days when scholars research ancient Indian history they read the travelogues of Chinese monks who went to India as far back as the Tang dynasty. Chinese monks made vivid and detailed descriptions of what they observed in their books. How China pays attention to history is not lost on Lithuania President Nausėda, who recently reminded his diplomatic officials that China is “a big country with long memory”.

The Yellow Turbans and The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom tried their darndest to create theocracies. They just lost. So it's not that Chinese are somehow immune to the appeal of religious war but that secular regimes happened to win in their clashes.

Wouldn't it be true that as the US having had 'conquered' imperialism and followed the path of JFK that US history would be very different today? It's pointless to speculate 'what could have been' about history. History is a record for humans to learn and improve Human civilization.

@@Ellesar925 I don't think it's naive to say that more and more countries are breaking free or at least trying to, from Capitalist exploitation. They see China and Russia as alternative partners and strengthening cooperation amongst themselves for mutual gains. I believe that the West (the common people) could also gain by cooperation with 'rivals' rather than wasting resources on wars and conflicts. It's only through cooperation that planetary problems could be solved and Human progress, sustainable. Remember, there are also peacemakers in the West, although the warmongers maybe dominant for now.

The Chinese Dragons as well as the Phoenixes already reside in higher realms or higher planes of existence. The Western Dragons are Dracos, an extraterrestrial race existing on and under the planet's surface, in the solar system and in this galaxy.
Chinese Dragons depict the Yin and Yang. The Western Dragons(Dracos) are Evil Conquerors(Colonizers).
