    Great pattern! I've made 2 so far, but instead of crocheting 2 separate red and white stripes and sewing them together I just started with one row of red, changed yarn and did 2 rows white, then another row of red then twisted and finished off with closing it off the same way you did with sewing it up through the red stitches.

      That is exactly what I was thinking of doing to cut out probably 20 mins of time sewing the two together lol. I hate the sewing part because I suck at it!

      Depends on what you're looking for! But I think this candy cane would be a great accessory to wrap a gift with, it could also be hung on a Christmas tree, or attach a string to the top to make it an ornament. Currently I have several of these crocheted candy canes displayed in jar. :)

    I love these❤️🤍♥️🤍I also love the idea that you have in your comments of putting several in a jar as decor or as added embellishments for gifts. I think they would also make nice 'toys' for babies/toddlers around Christmas time & they would also look nice in a wreath.♥️🤍Thank you for the tutorial ❣️

      Thanks for your comment! What do you mean by doing them all at once?

    • @amandabarlow6527
      @amandabarlow6527 Год назад +1

      Hi what i mean is doing red,white,white,red instead of doing just red,white then white,red and then sowing them together

    • @Karen822
      @Karen822 Год назад

      I was thinking that also. I'm going to try just crocheting the red strip, then add the two rows of white then the rows of red again all as one piece. I didn't understand making them separately then sewing the strips together.

    • @theresascrochetshop
      @theresascrochetshop  Год назад +1

      @@amandabarlow6527 The reason I do red, then white, then red is so that when you twist the candy cane, you will be sewing red on red, so the stitches to sew it together are completely hidden. If I was sewing red on white, you would see the stitches. Does that answer your question?

  • @aleg._.1656

    Why didn’t you just continue the rows and not cut the yarn? It would’ve been easier and you wouldn’t need to sew the two pieces together 😐

    • @theresascrochetshop
      @theresascrochetshop  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi! Great question. Crocheting the candy cane in separate rows and then sewing them together creates more of the spiral-effect of a candy cane.

    • @aleg._.1656
      @aleg._.1656 10 месяцев назад

      Ohh you know what lol I just figured that out when I was crocheting it rn… plus it’s a little uneven if you do crochet it in one single pattern. Sorry! And thanks! 😊 🎄

      @@jillfriesen8235 Oh! I see, the candy cane tube was longer than the pipe cleaners. I’m sorry it didn’t turn out the way you wanted! It could be a difference in yarn, or that not enough stitches were skipped when beginning to sew it up into the tube? I wonder if you could add length by twisting more pipe cleaners onto the ends of your other pipe cleaners?
      I’m sorry you were disappointed! I’m always happy to help answer questions if I can.

    • @Karen822

      You may have shorter pipe cleaners. They come in lots of lengths and thicknesses. The ones I have right now from Amazon are 12 inches, but they have longer and shorter.

    If I were to chain 37 (so make it half the length), would it still work? Trying to make a mini Christmas themed toy for my cat :)
    Also, what would you recommend using if I don’t have a yarn needle? Is there a way to stitch with just my hook?

    • @theresascrochetshop
      @theresascrochetshop  Год назад +2

      Hi, thanks for your comment! I think if you were to chain just half, it would make a much fatter candy cane. I would recommend if you want a much smaller one to use a thinner yarn weight and a smaller crochet hook. I'm not sure what a good substitute would be for a yarn needle! I think stitching with your hook would be very difficult. Maybe you have a needle on hand with a hole big enough to fit the yarn? Otherwise, these yarn needles are only a couple dollars (and get the bent tip if you do buy one; they're the best!).
