  • Following a few days of heavy rain during a holiday in Lowick, Northumberland, in early September 2022, I took advantage of the first decent day to go for a ride. I had no route planned but started off southwards aiming to reach Wooler and then to complete a circular ride of at least 60km whilst trying to avoid busy main roads as much as possible.
My random route took me on a number of unclassified, potholed, roads as well as several B roads but, throughout this 70km ride, I was passed by only 25 cars excluding those parked at the side of the road. Coincidently, I randomly re-rode some of the roads from my 'Lowick: Coast & Country' vlog but, after reaching Chatton, I decided to continue to Belford via Chatton Bank.
Along the way, there were beautiful views of the Cheviot Hills and, after Belford, a delightful view across to Holy Island.
