FBI launches criminal investigation into ship at the center of the Baltimore bridge collapse

- Federal investigators are looking into potential criminal wrongdoings after a large container ship crashed into Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge causing it to collapse into the Patapsco River in March.
Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) went aboard the ship, called DALI, Monday as they began looking into whether the crew left port knowing that something could be wrong with the boat.
“The FBI is present aboard the cargo ship Dali conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity,” the FBI Baltimore said in a statement.
At the same time as the FBI, Baltimore leaders announced they're seeking legal action against the M/V DALI's owner, manufacturers, and potential third parties for any long-term damages to the city and its economy.

Stop drinking the kool-aid, not everything is a conspiracy. I live in Baltimore, the Key bridge is not a critical infrastructure. It's a major one, but the tunnels are much more critical. Also, each of these agencies will hand over the evidence and data they collect to FBI, this isn't their first case.

You didn’t watch the video? That’s evidence and the harbor pilot was on the cargo ship and he isn’t on anyone’s side, he just witnessed what happened and he says the engine failed.

Shouldn't the FBI investigate this before the government uses our tax money to fix it? This is a huge insurance scam. Why would the company get insurance money and federal aid before an investigation? Our government needs trimmed down monetarily in the worst way possible.

In what world do you think any insurance has been paid out at this point? It’s going to be month to years before insurance companies & lawsuits are settled. The harbor & federal highway cannot be closed that long. This premise makes no sense & is completely unrealistic. That’s not how anything works.

I thought the same thing because there was no way the government would offer to rebuild that bridge if there wasn't something fishy going on.

Good. There is no way this was an accident. The ship steered right into it. They said they notified the port authrority that they "might" hit the bridge. But none of the idiot crew on board thought to call 911 from there cell phones? The entire crew should be in jail!

Mayor of Baltimore was on Sunday News, saying those responsible will be held accountable, which falls onto his shoulders, being the controlling entity. The Port Authority of Baltimore provides the pilot to control ships entering, once the ship is handed over to Baltimore control of the ship is their responsibility, in addition to restricting and for refusal to allow tugs to assist.

i have worked on a couple ships that use to be foreign flag. the amount of wtf "repairs" that we found in the engine room was staggering. complete loss of power on a ship that close to port is scary because the backup generator is joke

Dolphins are the underwater concrete barriers to prevent a ship hitting the bridge supports.

While there may have been negligence and/or incompetence onboard the Dali, the major contributing negligence was the failure to adequately protect the vital bridge support piers from vessels.
nobody hit it in years past ,shipping co.probably hires diverse over qualified.
The billions in damages and restitution are unlikely to be paid in full by the owners of the ship. Of course the tragic loss of life is can never be undone. It's good that the FBI are on this case, as the decision to leave port, if made with prior knowledge of the possible engine failure, would likely be a Federal crime.

Key Bridge had survived intact since its construction, the regular passage of thousands of similar container ships, and millions of containers, Why on that night, the one vessel that was to bring the Key Bridge down, after those thousands of safe crossings, was the Dali ? More than bad luck, or unpreventable conditions had to be in play. How many bowls of soup get served at a restaurant before one of the waiters messes up and drops a bowl on a customer's head ? Or was it that schlemiel waiter not paying attention and focusing upon the task at hand ? This one is worthy of the utmost scrutiny.

the ship turned 3 times on radar and satellite tracking IN THE BAY, it purposely turned toward the bridge support beam and stayed course for several minutes.

False I'm a deckhand on tugboat. Me and captain talked about this topic already. If you lose power from generators etc. You lose control over the rudders and power steer pump. Now as far as changing course towards the beam, that you are mostly correct on. Though the rudders part you are wrong on.

The turn into the bridge happened when power was temporarily restored, so the ship was intentionally steered into the bridge, either by the on board crew, or by being hacked.
It was an intentional attack on an extremely important piece of our transportation infrastructure.

This failure is a complex subject as it is centered on the failure of multiple generators in parallel. If the crew understood it they would not have sailed. If the FBI understands the subject I would be suprised. Let the NTSB do their thing, Eventually the details will come out and the general public will not understand it.
The waterway has right of way if a bridge is made over the water it has to be built to accomodate the users of waterway and protect the bridge structure eg clearance height , give a adequate Chanel width
In this case piers were built close to the deep water Chanel with inadequate pier protection
Blame the bridge authority for building on the cheep. a wider central span would have cost more
If the piers were in shallow water the ship would have run aground before

From when it first happened, I had said that it looked like it was done intentionally and that it may have been an act of terrorism. Don’t take my words seriously though until this investigation is complete. It’s just my theory. 🤷🏼♀️

The bridge didn't just "collapse" it was destroyed purposely

About fucking time how about the fact it was a UKRAINIAN/RUSSIAN ship captain who was in charge of the ship, and it turned directly towards the bridge support before it “lost power” , or the fact it was carrying a large amount of chemicals, or the fact it was our country’s 5th largest port,mor is it the fact if they didn’t touch the whell it would have went right under the bridge
