Fantastic discovery. Have you known about this tunnel for a long time? How did you learn about it?
Wow, gorgeous Fall foliage started in the UK!!! 3:47 Lovely, Love Autumn..
Oh, the mountains in a distance is covered with clouds.
Doesn't it make you happy to find charming houses as you hike??
I don't know much about architecture in the countryside in the UK, but you pointed out such a graceful farmhouse probably historic.
Well, I am glad to know you are in satisfactory. Impressive work. See you next one.

I know that area well, back in the day you could slip through the fence on drope road and walk up the cutting, which had quite steep sides.
In school, the cross country team had to run up that cutting as part of a training run, about 2 foot of very cold water where the track used to be.
The original track ran north under drope road to a junction, the main track then went over the big red sandstone viaduct that stood where the link road bridge now stands.
There was another branch line that went through a cutting across the fields and joined the main Paddington to Swansea line just on the other side of St George's.

Thanks. That brought back some memories! I went to Glan Ely High school and we used to bunk off school and go through the tunnel which didn't have the entrances blocked off then. We went in the dark with no torches! the air ventilation shaft in the middle came out in the caravan park in Culverhouse. The entrance at the Drope end was easy to get to and not overgrown like it is now. Those were the days when kids went out and had silly adventures with no health and safety about.

    • @PhilipOlsen11
      @PhilipOlsen11  5 месяцев назад

      @@kevinmorgan7091 Hi Kevin.
Sadly I have to agree that kids don’t have the adventures our generation did. I’d have loved to have walked right through and saw the air shaft. I drove up the top and found the brick building they’ve now built over the exit of it. Again apparently that used to be more open than it is now.
Sadly when the exit at the drive is, it’s become a bit of a dumping ground for some of the units.
      Thanks for watching 🙏

That was very interesting. I'm actually into and interested in this kind of stuff. We have a lot of old railways around where I live. A pity you couldn't find a way down to the second tunnel but the drone footage captured where the railway line used to go with the trees reclaiming the line. You'll know by looking at Google Maps satellite where the line was from that very thing. Great share 👍

@PhilipOlsen11 where you took the drone up over the house with the swimming pool it's opposite that. It used to be called station house. Not sure who lives there now though. You may also be interested to know the Woodham Bros used to live in Wenvoe, not sure if you know of them but used to be big in the locomotives around Barry docks.

Back during the first lockdown and the scorching hot weather I walked the whole length of the tunnel as the mud was completely solid! Wasn't the only one either as there were a few footprints apart from mine. The other end is indeed overgrown and inaccessible any other way but with the pipe work going on that might change.

Great video i grew up on the Michaelston estate and the North portal was 5 minutes from my back door. I walked through many times in the 70s and early 80s. Sorry to be pedantic but the date stone is 1888 not 81.
And the line went to Barry dock not Penarth. It was built by Dave Davies who built Barry dock to export his coal as he was fed up of paying Cardiff docks extortionate rate. Sadly he died before all this came to fruition.

I’ve walked quite a bit of it where it goes through Saint Fagans so I was hoping to film that at sometime. 👍
