My father served on the Bunker Hill and was on board during that attack. Fortunately, he also survived or I wouldn't be here today. He is now gone but will always be my hero.

My grandfather was a 16 year old 3 rd class baker . He was my hero. He said he had a Purple Heart... scalded with blueberry pie filling. His life was a tragedy after the war. I’m 51 now & have 3 teenagers . It’s basically child abuse what he went through. It took a heavy toll on his life & his family’s. But I’m proud of his sacrifice & sorry for his torture. He was a patriot & a child.

Great footage, thanks. My ol' man was onboard,...got all dewey eyed watching. He died young, but left two volumes of history of Bunker Hill and fighter squadron.

Wish I had known about this footage earlier. It would have have added a few great scenes to my documentary film on VMF-451 who was on board CV-17 at the time this was being filmed. Thank-you so much for posting.

Ivey Family My Uncle had a Painting of the ship, he had it in my Aunts front room when they were dating and you could always tell when they had an argument. She would take the picture down. My Uncle said he was on watch and was relieved just before the planes hit. he is passed away long before you tube and would have liked seeing these videos, he was proud of being on that ship.

My father served on the Essex and was right behind Bunker Hill when she got hit on May 11th. My father and other Essex men on the flight deck threw their life jackets to Bunker Hill men in the water as they went by them. Very sad! Hopefully those men were picked up by a destroyer.
