I had stayed at the Camelot Castle Hotel which overlooks the ruins a few years back, and with the typical British stormy nights, you can easily imagine how these legends of a great king coming from there could have been made. It exudes mystery, demands respect and will likely inspire more tales to come in future generations!

I'm not a believer in ghosts, but I suspect my beliefs might change if I were to be wandering through those ruins on a dark and stormy night with thunder and lightning. I really, really don't wish to test that suspicion at Tintagel. The legends however are awesome.

I've stayed over night in there too. The owners are a bit strange, always trying to sell you art, over-priced art. They have a framed painting hanging on an interior wall with a price tag of half a million pounds! They also want you to look at their 'Light Box' demonstration deep in the bowels of the hotel's cellars. I saw faces go in through the door that led downwards and the same faces return with bewildered or 'get me out of here' looks upon them. A little too creepy if you ask me.

    • @AnonAntagone

When I was barely 20 I visited southern England and bought this super cool sword 🗡. It was epic! When headed home and wrapped in a borrowed hotel blanket and duct tape. Tried to carry it on. Made it up to boarding with my sword under my arm, I shared the details with the stewardess and they said sure, but they would have to stow it in a forward hold for the flight. Sure I said. Just as we were about to takeoff I noticed a bit of activity at the front as the door closed. As we were taxiing the stewardess came to me handing me a card with a phone number on it to contact as the captain had decided swords were a bit much. I called, wrote, cried and screamed but my fine very expensive sword (it was like $300 in 1981) was never seen or found again. I will never forgive AA for that, irks me to this day.

Tried to carry plastic disposal (safety) razor onto a KLM flight (operated by Air France) departing Hong Kong for Amsterdam. Zealous female at check-in told me I couldn't take razor onboard. I pointed to nearby pilot, asked "is that my pilot", politely asked pilot if he was OK with razor, he said no prob. I got to keep the razor. I said " what am I going to, shave everyone to death?" Sometimes you should defend common sense and not give into the "Karens"

    • @Erin-Thor
      @Erin-Thor 4 года назад +3

djrmarky - LOL! Funny, but I doubt it. I do NOT blame the pilot. This was way before all of the current flight restrictions, and it is entirely the Captains prerogative to allow or not allow anything or anyone on his plane. I think someone working for AA or the airport there might have liked it, and taken it home as it was a beautiful piece of work! Who knows, it may be sitting in some unclaimed baggage warehouse this very day rusting away. My friends said it was Karma for taking the hotel blanket to duct tape it in for the flight. Sadly as it was not checked, I had no ticket, and I was young and didn’t think to put my name on the package... it’s a goner. LOL!

OMG! I'm a 21 year old stripper living in Dallas, Tx.
And this is my deep dark secret:
Im OBSESSED with anything King Arthur.
    I mean it. 100% obsessed.
I've studied everything from the ancient religions of Brittain to the Celtic/ Druid/Pagan/Pict/Saxon mythology just to understand certain key figures in the story, their motivations, ect (which is hard to do because the druids never wrote anything down).
From James Frazier's _The Golden Bough_ (an *essential* add to anyone interested in a good read on relevant comparitive religions and the aforementioned mythologies).
I learned how to properly sketch the beautiful architecture of old cathedrals just so I could try and recreate my models of all the possible Camelots.
I love anything and everything to do with King Arthur!
(i recommend reading The Mists of Avalon to anyone wanting to start as well as The Once and Future King)

King Arthur never existed. The accepted belief amongst historians and archaeologists is that "Arthur" was probably a Romman Britain commander. ""King Arthur" is an imaginary character created by poets/writers to glorify/glamorize that era in history, which was pretty damn bleak tbh

    Richard of Cornwall.
Bloody legend. Second son of King John and a colourful figure during the 13th Century. Probably the richest man in Europe. Built Tintagel Castle to connect Arthurian legends. Went on crusade, though more of a virtue signal as he fought no battles and negotiated peace. Opposed Simon De Montfort before it was cool, and rebelled against him. Tried a weak power grab to acquire Poitou, but was thwarted. He bribed the electoral princes in Germany, and managed to wag himself Emperor. Though as King of the Romans, he only visited the country 4 times and soon was booted out and replaced. He was the "bad miller" who hid in a windmill at the Battle of Lewes. Managed to wag himself as lord of Warminster before he suffered a crippling stroke which eventually killed him. Even then he wasn't done, as his influence on Germany created a power vacuum.
    What a scallywag.
