  • In this do it yourself video, we are going to go step by step on how to make your own custom lineman’s belt. From the rope size, lengths, and knots. I’ll show you how to make a prusik knot that can be used for one hand adjusting by adding a tender made from paracord. Below is a list of materials used to make your own lineman’s belt.
    10’ - 11mm braided climbing rope
    4’ - 8mm braided climbing rope
    25” - 1/8” paracord
    2 - climbing rated carabiners
    Knots used for project
    Overhand
    Single fisherman’s
    Double fisherman’s
    Prusik

    Thank you Jarred,
    This was exactly what I needed to be able to safely climb up a tree and take it down section by section. This is so simple and easy to make and use. After 5 min I had muscle memory of the motion and was able to devote all my (limited) brain power to cutting down the tree. A BIG thank you from the east coast!

    Most may know, but some may not, so I am adding a "side note" here.
    When you want to LOOSEN the knot you do NOT want to grab the Prusik knot itself!!!
    Should you start to slip with your hand on the knot it is only natural that you tighten your grip on the knot, which in essence will RELAX the knot and you could possibly ride the rope to the ground.
    It is RECOMMENDED that instead of grabbing the knot, grab your lineman's rope ABOVE THE KNOT and slide the prusik knot down to then loosen it.
    If you start to fall with your hand on the lineman's rope, you can still grab the rope AND your prusik knot will be allowed to tighten as it should.
    I don't want to be "one of those guys", but I think this is important for all to know.
    For what it is worth, I am a retired lineman, and have a few years experience to justify what I am saying.
    Have a safe hunt guys! AND GALS TOO!!!

    Great video, I like a 6mm rope for my Prusiks knots. The 8mm just seems a little too big for me. But get a good brand like Sampson with at least a 1k load rating,

    How long should this last before you need to make another one? Most companies that make safety harnesses recommend replacing after five years.

      I inspect them every year, I usually change them out after 3-4 years.

    You seem to be a heavier guy like myself. What harness do you use for hunting? I bought a new tree stand that came with a harness and it doesn’t fit. I just bought a Hunter Safety System vest harness but idk if it would fit me or not. I’m still waiting on delivery. But it doesn’t have the metal loops yours has.

      The harness I used in video is my work harness. The harness I use hunting is the Muddy harness that’s sold at Walmart. It’s lightweight and comfortable.

      I guess I’m not picking up what you are laying down lol! What are you referring to as 2 in 1. Just want to make sure I’m giving you correct info.

      @@JarredMurphyOutdoors So when the first lanyard is supporting us and we want to move branches, we can attach the second lanyard without having to let go of the first lanyard. have you got the idea?

    • @JarredMurphyOutdoors
      @JarredMurphyOutdoors  2 месяца назад +1

      Honestly I’m not sure I would have to research that. I usually use 2 lineman’s belts when climbing I a situation like that.

    What kind of harness is that?

    • @JarredMurphyOutdoors
      @JarredMurphyOutdoors  3 года назад

      My safety harness is a Miller duraflex. I’m an electrician by trade and that’s the type of harness I use working.
