    I've got a camp on a lake in northern Maine that is north south oriented with mountains on both sides. The wind picks up and drives through the range and will push 4 foot white caps at 4 foot intervals down the lake at about 6 miles an hour on the regular. I built my 12ft sea nymph a lot like that boat, and it's solid in the waves. I usually don't go full throttle, but can keep it on plane, and above the green water on the worst of days. Thank you for all the inspiration to build tiny boats better!

    Cockpits or in the very least a low area to stand wide and sit low in is key for rough weather. Need low floors in lake erie when winds pick up. 4 ft waves with 15 ft trough is about as rough as my 14ft goes into.

    Rule #1 know your vessels limitations on the water and plan accordingly. In other words tiny boats ,rough water and big waves do not mix. Lake Erie taught me and others that.

    People take a little fishing boat and put all the raised decks and tall fishing chairs on and it raises the center of gravity and makes things scary when the water gets a little choppy. I bought a 16 foot aluminum boat that had been converted into a so-called bass boat and removed all of the raised decks put in a lower floor and made it back into a great stable fishing boat again. You want comfort and pretty go get a pontoon boat and put a recliner on it…

    Great Video Most lakes here near Phoenix Arizona are really high pressure lakes. Lake Pleasant by far is the worst since its the closet to the valley. My daughter and I mainly fish a electric only lake since my boat only has trolling motors. Tempe town lake is electric only. you can't even have a out on the transoms. Plus a permit is required. Fishing is pretty good. I haven't caught too many bass. I mainly anchor and fish so my daughter and I can put lines in the water and hangout and chill together. Creating memories that last a lifetime!
    Thanks for all your great videos.
    Stay safe everyone!
    Happy fishing!

      Ya, I’ve got an old V14 Alumicraft. Deep ,a thick hull plus the V hull with a 15 Evinrude all translates into tuff boat that might save your bacon some day. Have you modified your V14 at all? I’m thinking of removing the center seat on mine but I know it’s a lot stronger with it in place.

    • @skyfly51
      @skyfly51 Год назад

      @@kentyler966 not sure if they ever changed them. Mine is from the early 70s, has one piece rolled sheet metal seat. I removed them and did new pour foam. Then reinstalled. I added some angle aluminum to the seat lips and am working on floor insert panels. So the bench seats will remain and act as the floor. And the inserts will be flush. That way it can be easily removed to clean underneath. Hoping it works well. But i haven't finished yet. I didn't want to go crazy reframing the boat. I personally don't think the seats add much strength. But Google provided pictures are ruined Jon boats because people took the seats out. So I'm leaving it and hoping the inserts work well.

    • @kentyler966
      @kentyler966 Год назад

      I am using styrofoam board and 3x5’ mats on top of that. The foam is the same thickness as the floor ribs. This make the bottom ribs a non issue. Moving around on the floor easy and drain well. Pretty cheap,light and effective.

    This is why I have my alarm on my fish finder set for considerably more than my actual draft. I go from the lowest part of the boat (bottom of outboard skeg) and set the alarm for 4' more than that. That means I never operate my boat in less than 6' of water. I also don't trust my preloaded maps unless the depth is over 10'. Even then I'm highly skeptical.

    I like this design, and think I'm going to do something similar with my 14' semi v for use on small midwest lakes and rivers. I like the large open cockpit because I plan to bring my dog and will also need to transport duck decoys when hunting. What size outboard do you have? The boat currently has a wood frame deck on the front, and doesn't go near as fast as I want with a 6 hp motor.

    I think you should design a boat from the ground up to specialize for the stuff you want to do with it and the equipment you want to use with it.
    What I mean is first pile up all your essentials and then build a boat around it.
    You have enough experience with Aluminium to pull that of,,,
