    Reading many negative comments below. Please note Mascot/ Kingsford Smith Airport started out as a single flight from a paddock so many years ago and thus grown to what it is today. There is no room for it to grow any more and demand dictates the need for a second airport . The new airport also will grow as time dictates. Future generations can meet those expenses and the costs now to our generation is more them generous.

    Great footage! What strikes me as someone from the other side of the globe without any knowledge of this project: it seems like such a massive infrastructural undertaking, for such a small, seemingly unambitious terminal building. Only four or five gates for international flights? Presumably it will mainly function as a point to point airport, not as a hub?

    • @quarkcypher
      @quarkcypher 7 месяцев назад +5

      When the new airport opens it will cater for about 10 million passengers per year. It will be expanded to eventually see over 80 million passengers by the early 2060's. The present airport in Sydney, Kingsford Smith, can't be expanded as it is surrounded by heavily populated suburbs, hence a flight curfew. The new airport is 24/7 operation.
      Sydney needs this new infrastructure and it will be a boon for the fast growing western suburbs of Sydney.

    • @BigJayDogAdventures
      @BigJayDogAdventures  7 месяцев назад +8

      Agree, also the current layout will be mirrored in 2031 , ie a second main terminal building and runway will be built on the other side like a hinge down the centre of the metro station and then flip the whole map over and then further expansion of gates can still occur after that, it’s gonna be big and a 24/7 deal

      This is how they do it in australia waste billions $ make a big deal out of it and then the outcome is a small boring looking airport designed with standards from the 1950s

      There will be multiple terminals, this is just the first of several for initial scale operations That's why the metro station box is off to one side; it eventually will be centred between terminals on three sides.

    Why is the Rail station that far away from the airport building. I am thinking it is due to cost to have a curve in the line .Please let me know if it is another reason .

    • @mandonov21
      @mandonov21 7 месяцев назад +1

      It’s actually halfway between the terminal being built now, and the terminal to be built in the future as demand grows and a second runway is built. It’s meant to serve the airport in its final configuration planned for decades into the future.

    Unfortunately what they have not told you is that not all the aircraft will have aerobridges. Just like a regional airport you will have to climb up and down stairs on to tarmac in a lot of the flights. This is a big miss in my opinion and imagine what the tourists will think after leaving state of the art airports in their countries!

      This is an apology of an airport. Its tiny compared to the world's leading airports. This airport is more suitable for Darwin, Hobart of Alice Springs. Pathetic!

      Singapore Changi, Chicago O’Hare, LAX, Heathrow all don’t have aerobridges for every airline. Most small planes servicing regional centres don’t have aerobridges. I’d rather climb stairs than getting rerouted to another airport coz the plane missed the curfew.

    I moved from the airport area due to,the long road extension and repair delays…..road closures….and slow heavy vehicles on the road all day everyday …..they built this in a swamp that is going to be a very poor construction zone ….I hour journeys turned to 2.5 to 3 hour trips ….let’s see hoy the traffic flow will be when 50 000 to 60 000 people travel to the airport daily by car bus or train ….each day ….the best part is access via the tarmac ….just like a 3rd world country ….5000 project managers and 1 ooo workers …..doing well

      Its design lends itself to low cost operations, so flights will be cheaper, involve minimal taxying time and flights can be 24 hr. Qantas and Jetstar have already said they will be basing over 20 aircraft there to start with. Western Sydney now has a bigger population than the rest of Sydney, and is growing faster, so it will be closer for all of them.
      The old Sydney KSA airport (2241 acres, compared to 4400 acres at western Sydney) will still run, so go there if it's closer. It will have two runways ultimately - Sydney KSA has only one in one direction, and two in another, but they are too close together to enable full simultaneous operation (Western Sydney's are a lot further apart). Western Sydney Airport will have full instrument landing systems enabling landings in virtually all conditions (Sydney KSA are not to that standard).

    This is such a disgusting waste of money, could have easily expanded Newcastle AirPort. Considering the land is unusable for anything else due to the PFAS, instead they bought prime farm land to build this pointless airport in the middle of nowhere.
