With President Yoon Suk Yeol expected to hold a series of meetings with NATO member countries next week, our Correspondent Oh Soo-young spoke to a global security expert on what those talks will focus on.
South Korea and NATO countries are expected to express their solidarity against the growing military ties between Russia and North Korea, and seek "practical cooperation" in arms and cybersecurity.
That's according to Ramon Pacheco Pardo, Professor of International Relations at King's College London, as Seoul's top office announced that President Yoon Suk Yeol will meet with various European leaders on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Washington D.C.
Speaking with Arirang News, Pacheco Pardo said Yoon's attendance at the annual summit is likely to be received with support for Seoul's objection to the recent military and economic treaty forged by Moscow and Pyongyang,.. agreeing to aid each other militarily upon aggression.
"South Korea's standing has grown in recent years, especially since Russia's invasion of Ukraine with South Korea providing all sorts of support for the Zelenskyy government. So I do think that there is a keen interest among European NATO members in meeting with President Yoon and in getting his support for Ukraine and vice versa. They will be willing to express their support for South Korea against Russia and Pyongyang strengthening ties."
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg last month expressed concern about the growing alignment between Russia and the likes of North Korea, China, and Iran.
As such authoritarian actors increase their cooperation, Pacheco Pardo said Seoul's relations with NATO countries will become more elaborate and practical.
"So they will focus on, for example, South Korean arms sales to different European countries, whether this is to support Ukraine or for these countries to keep those weapons. I think there will be talk about defense industry cooperation, which is something of interest for many European countries starting with Poland, but not only Poland. We see Romania, for example, now moving in that direction."
He added that Baltic states, in particular, would also seek stronger cybersecurity with Seoul.
"They're on the same boat because they have to defend themselves against these cyber attacks on civilian infrastructure, on private firms, but also obviously on the Ministry of National Defense, the military as well. And there is this need for information sharing, joint exercises. sharing intelligence as well about how these cyber attacks take place. Also, obviously, many of these cyber attacks don't target one particular country only. We have seen with North Korea in the past, targeting multiple countries at the same time. Same with Russia."
With geopolitical uncertainty ahead for South Korea and NATO countries, especially as a change in U.S. leadership could affect Washington's relations with its allies,
Pacheco Pardo emphasized the need for continued cooperation between Indo-Pacific and Transatlantic actors on the working level, from military and defense industry to supply chain resilience and economic security.
    Oh Soo-young, Arirang News."

Well it would not be bad for America or other countries to decide for a crash that kills people the drver not the passengers should get 10 to 15 years in prison. If there is video footage proving that the other driver was not responsible for the crash and it was insanely reckless driving drunk, under the influence of drugs like cocain, meth, fentanol, drinking the wrong direction, or insanely fast speeds, driving into a building. There should also be areas on roads with mountains and sharp turns that are bumpy sh drivers taking 10 or 24 hour drives will wake up if sleepy. Roads should have rest stops for semi trucks to sleep on the side of the road, or hotels and rest areas allowing for all srvers after one day of driving to sleep during the night and pick up food and water on the road. Internationally road rarely have traffic signs for speeds, do not have easy to use roads to get off on another road after switching from two way to one way. Highways should never switch from one way to two way roads even with 50 signs advertising the change. A road should require drivers to stop at a one way street just like a railroad and drive slowly the right direction on a one way street clearly communicating the new direction of the one way road and the speed. A turn around road has to be available for passengers who didn't know that the street was one way because they didn't look it up on a map. Countries should allow for tourists to go back the way they came to their original destination on a road or train if they didn't know that the road or train is one way. You can't travel to where you thought you were going. Having the passengers get off in a hotel to wait for a cab is helpful for one way travelers and lost tourists. Countries around the world do not allow for any person acused of a crime to be held without food the and water during interrogation. This is considered a forced confession or a torture tactic that can not be used on any cilivan or criminal legally ever. Forced confessions with forced standings, beatings, strapped to a table, not allowed to go to the bathroom, forced sitting on a chair many things for weeks or months on end is considered a violation of human rights. A prison should never in prison or a police station not have access to medical treatment. Any injury in prison or in a police station must immediately be treated by trained medical professionals a nurse or doctor. They must be immediately transformed by a ambulance to a hospital as soon as the injury is reported. This can never be delayed. A cop accused of gross negligence of a person in custody or a prison warden who allows beatings of prisoners or rape without stopping the abuse and reporting the incident to medical professionals in the prison or to a local hospital has violated the person 's dignity and is subject under law to be prosecuted in a court for responsibility for the persons injuries. A person should never be unconscious in police custody for a confession because of withholding food and water. A cop should to trained to examine a cash crash knowing all passengers are probably injured. A ambulance arriving on the scene would have medical staff assuming the same thing. Ambulance drivers are required by law because of their college training and medical vow to give life saving aid to car crash victims. Cops should be required to call a ambulance and allow all passengers medical treatment. A doctor or nurse must give approval for the transfer to a police station because a passenger has fully recovered and will not be medically harmed by being removed from the hospital. The same day as a person is in custody a phone call to a relative or friend to notify of a arrest should occur unless a legal adult waves that right. A lawyer should be present during the investigation so a person is not unsure what consequences a confessions will have. A lawyer has to be paid for if a person is to poor to pay a lawyer. A forced confession by law requires a case to be considered illegal all charges are dropped. The person is considered innocent and free to go. The Philippines, America, France, Italy, Germany, the U.K, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, Spain, and many countries do not ever deprive people of water, food, or a lawyer, or medical treatment. These countries also do not think itis appropriate to charge $50,000 USD, $ 100,000 United States dollars translated to there local currency, or a $1 million dollars for most crimes that locals or foreigners commit. That is considered extremely for poor people or even fairly rich people to be required to give that kind of money for their legal freedom before the law.
