  • NATO leaders once again put their heads together this time in Washington D.C., where the alliance's first-ever treaty was forged 75 years ago.
Bringing 75 years of stability to Europe, it's now looking to do the same against global security threats.
You're watching Arirang's special NATO Summit analysis.
    I'm Kim Dami in Seoul.
And today, I'm joined by Victor Cha, Senior Vice President for Asia and Korea Chair at CSIS.
He is also the author of a new book, "Korea: A New History of South & North."
    Welcome, Dr. Cha.
    1. A stronger rebuke against China and a pledge for stronger support for Ukraine this is the gist of NATO's Washington Declaration.
Billions of dollars have already been sent to Ukraine, and 43 billion dollars more has been promised.
Is is the best that NATO was able to come up with?
Should Ukraine be content with that for now?
    2. Some experts have cast doubt on NATO's vow for lasting support, saying it's not too promising.
    Is that the case?
    3. Nearly three years in to the war, Ukraine is more desperate for aid than ever.
Ukraine has also long been chasing to join NATO, and it didn't work in its favor again this year.
    What's holding it back?
Will Ukraine be able to gain membership once the war is over?
    4. NATO leaders are concerned that Donald Trump, who is known as not being NATO's biggest fan, may make a comeback to the White House and potentially impact the promise of aid and support.
What is it that NATO members need to do so that the their membership remains tight and solid in the near future?
Or do they even need to prepare for Trump's return in the first place?
    5. China has become a regular part of NATO's agenda, especially in recent years.
NATO this time labeled China a "decisive enabler" of Russia's war against Ukraine.
Does this mean NATO is recognizing Beijing as a bigger threat to Euro-Atlantic security?
    6. And this also ties into the snowballing military cooperation between Russia and North Korea.
Will NATO calling them out be able to stop the two from deepening their risky ties? How?
What practical measures should there be to stop the two?
    7. President Yoon Suk Yeol has attended the NATO summit for three years in a row, a first for any South Korean leader.
Do you think South Korea has been serving its purpose and contributing at the highest level?
Do NATO partners recognize South Korea's role and dedication to keeping regional and global peace?
    8. Will South Korea be invited again next year?
    9. South Korea has warned Russia that it could provide Ukraine lethal weapons if Russia continues to cross the line by collaborating with North Korea militarily.
You've previously pointed out that there are multiple ways for South Korea to do that, one way being through NATO members.
Please tell us how that would work.
    10. Then the question is: is that an actually realizable plan? Providing lethal weapons to Ukraine through NATO?
Would NATO allies allow Seoul to do that?
    11. Ambassador Michael Carpenter, senior advisor for Europe at the White House National Security Council, said ahead of the summit that NATO is not expanding into the Indo-Pacific.
Will it always be NATO plus IP4 members?
Or open to embracing more Indo-Pacific partners?
    12. The U.S. official's comment came after North Korea slammed Seoul, Washington and Tokyo for conducting their first trilateral multi-domain military drill last month, saying the three sides are trying to form an Asian version of NATO partnership.
Is an Asian version of NATO even possible?
NATO seeking to secure a long lasting safety pin for Ukraine and keeping North Korea, Russia and China in check
This year's NATO Summit was again all about preserving and safeguarding global peace and security.
Dr. Victor Cha, thank you so much for your time and for sharing your insights with us.
    We appreciate it.
We also thank you for staying with us throughout Arirang's special 75th NATO summit analysis.
