  • The Giant Loop Cactus Canteen is the ultimate motorcycle camping water carrying solution. It's rugged, versatile, lightweight, and packed with well though out features.
    The Cactus Canteen is a combination of a food-grade TPU inner bladder and an 840D nylon laminated TPU shell. It's the most rugged motorcycle water carrier on the market and it's versatile enough to be used for all of your camping water carrying needs.
    I've been using and testing the Cactus Canteen for a year now over thousands of miles both on and off the motorcycle and it's done nothing but impress me the entire time.

    The 1 gallon canteen has gone with me on every bike trip I've taken since I got it. Definitely saved my bacon out in the Utah desert last year. I ended up going through way more water than I thought I was going to but having a gallon on reserve meant I still had plenty with me. It's survived some rough rides and a few unscheduled departures from the bike and has endured it all without any issues.

    Dork, been riding for a few years street only and I recently picked up a leftover DRZ for a good deal. Your light adventure build really inspired me and my wife to go moto camping in our *very* local national forest. Just starting to figure out luggage solutions for mine and the mrs's bikes. Seeing your vids show what works for you, and would probably work for me too. Thanks for the content!

    Thanks for another slightly biased but very informative and useful video! Last summer, I spent most of my time camping off the bike (Michigan to Alaska and TAT). Managing water was a big deal. I recently bought the Cactus Canteen for the upcoming riding season but returned it unused due to the slow water flow shown in your video. I'm sticking with the Platypus 2L; it's durable and fits well across the top of my Tusk Pilot Saddle bag... never leaks, filled with water and compressed inside my Tusk Pilot Panniers (keep it on the top side of waterproof liner, then roll and sinch the bag closed). That said, really like the Cactus Canteen concept, I'd be all about it if it came with a 1/2" tube.

    • @Robert-jp8gq
      @Robert-jp8gq 4 месяца назад +2

      Thanks for sharing that Glenn!! Have the same setup as you do. I would have never thought a platypus would be that strong... going to definitely try storing in side of my Tusk Pilot bag... I alway read that you need to be careful about storing water inside of a pannier, but when compressed and on top of a waterproof liner why not? Much simpler way of carrying water.. if it leaks should do no harm. How long have you been doing that?

    I have the 2 Gallon version of this and love it. One of my favorite pieces of kit. Strap it to the back of the bike and I always have access to it for a quick drink on my ride, hang it from a tree, my handlebars or my hammock straps at camp for filling my kettle, cooking or washing my hands. Truly, one of few things I carry that I feel won't need to be replaced down the line.

    Just used my two new 3 gallon CC's. Very happy with durability and usability. I must be the only one that got ones that make the water taste like plastic. It's pretty strong. Rinsed them out several times, still plastic tasting water. Better than none, but doesn't make dehydrated meals taste too good. If there's a way to solve this issue I would give them a 10 for practicality. Sorry for the negative point, but if I'm not the only one with the issue, then it would help to let us know first. Still should work great for showering.

    I'm definitely in the market. I've been carrying a 64 ounce Nalgene and it's heavy, doesn't conform and is always a big chunky block even when empty. I like the idea of carrying a flexible comforming bladder that only occupies the volume of water that it contains. I have never carried anywhere close to two gallons of water but I have desert southwest camping aspirations, so two gallons may be my upper limit for extreme use cases, and the modest difference in price, container weight (9.3 ounces versus 12.5 ounces for the 2 gallon), and empty rolled volume makes it possible to buy the 2 gallon for all my needs with the flexibility to carry extra water if the situation requires it. Maybe my riding buddy lost his water? The nearly bulletproof design and construction gives me the confidence to carry the Cactus Canteen inside my dry bag without fear of a wet sleeping bag. I plan on carrying a 3 liter water bladder (just the bladder, no carrier) to use as the dirty water reservoir when gravity filtering clean water into the Cactus Canteen in camp.

    I love my 1 gallon Cactus canteen as well. Bought it on preorder after watching your first video/review on it and it lived up to my expectations! Very rugged indeed and I love setting it up dangling on my handguards at camp and just have water on tap, basically. Love the design, materials, usefulness, how compact it rolls when not in use and the myriad of latching options it offers with the daisy chain loops. High marks from me! The low flow would probably be my only critic, but honestly, who gives a hoot? We're at camp, we have time.

  • @MotoCampNerd
    @MotoCampNerd 7 месяцев назад +1

    Can confirm the PNW Manta ray and all others (Sea to Summit Pack tap) are going extinct and will no longer be around. We use our 2 gallon on trips and at all the rallies and events to keep water with us all day. Really hard to find the cons like you said. Best part is that it doesn't make the water taste funny. I've started to slightly get that plastic taste after about 3-4 days of it baking in the sun, but usually we drink 2 gallons and refill before that happens.

    I like your gear video's even if I'm not riding yet because of your practical approach to "real world" type of use and testing! I drop stuff and forget it (put it somewhere it can fall etc) on occasion, plus I have kids! Really where you're at you should have plenty of water, you could get stuck out overnight pretty easy (because you don't want to be rescued, it costs a lot), and you never know when you'll get hurt. Maybe Giant Loop or someone else has a First Aid Kit (FAK) that would work well for a rider?

    Was less than thrilled with mine. Had a slow leak from the dispensing hose on the bottom, which I also found to be kinda difficult to deploy and stow when the bladder was full. I was ultimately reminded that soft sided liquid containers don’t take to being strapped down too well when mine slid out from under the one inch ratchet straps holding it to my rear rack in the middle of a section of the SoCal BDR. It got chewed up in my rear tire and transformed into a hundred dollar sieve. Thankfully, I didn’t put all my eggs in that basket and had a couple do good old fashioned Nalgene bottles with or it would have been a much more interesting day.

      I'd go one gallon each. 8 pounds per gallon high up will make a noticeable difference. On a smaller bike I would not want 32 pounds of fluids, personally.
