Nice work. Haven't seen anything as good as this for a long, long time. Great casting. Watched it five times. If Marlon Ladd ever makes this movie put me down to buy a copy for me and all my friends.
Go watch HELL ON THE BORDER
I've got to agree very well done 🤠👍
@@Bibledefender4u Nice that Mr. Ladd got Brad Pitt to play Ben Carver

I am an early US history teacher, and I love this. Too many unsung heroes that they need to know about. Bass Reeves was an American badass.
I agree and I plan to bring as many to the forefront as possible. Check out my Tulsa 1921 short film as well and have a great day!
No, he was a U. S. Marshal.
HERO
Dude, Bass Reeves is my favorite lawman from the old West. Thanks for this.
You’re welcome! Thanks for stopping by. Subscribe and share, please!
They should of made the lone ranger character on TV black since the ranger was inspired by a real life black law man.but that's Hollywood for you and you know how them types are.
Totally agree with Matt Rodriguez. You took a typical saloon shoot out with a limited budget, and with good paced direction and editing kept me engaged the entire time. Kudos.
Thanks, Peter! I really appreciate comments like this.
Time Hollywood puts Bass Reeves on the map. Do it right. Real African American hero. The real Lone Ranger.
Bass Reeves never called himself an African American. He knew what he was.
Watchmen is the start
@@caesard.8711, back than they were known as colored. They even had it on applications as well for real. I remember the Jim crow law. You need to remember their are two laws, the black law and the white law and it still stands today. Oh did I mention the complexion for the protection. If your black stand back, if your brown hand around.
The only person who I feel could play this man right now is MICHAEL JAI WHITE.
*YAz* -- the real deal!!! Just like Viola Davis is about to hook up the story of an African Queen and her 'girls' - the real Amazons - who fought off the French in the late 18th century.

Too many people don't know that Bass Reeves was one of the greatest lawmen ever. Hes right up there with Wyatt Earp and the boys if not the best do your research. Its criminal he isn't as well know as Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson because of the shade of his skin because he was every bit if not better a lawman
You're right, but in my mind there's no question he was the best! People are starting to know more and more about him. It's only a matter of time before the world knows.
@@marlonladd Bass Reeves was the inspiration for the TV show called THE LONE RANGER.
Probably better because we are the best at all we do !
Yeah they took his story and made it there own.
There were folks that would turn themselves in when they heard Bass Reeves was on their trail bad azz lawman with integrity.
I have studied Bass Reeves life and he was the original Lone Ranger. Wow what a man…
I'm surprised mario van peebles never did a movie about bass Reeves there definitely needs to be a biopic
Mario would be perfect for that role
The film "Posse" was fiction, but loosely based on life of real life black outlaw & gunfighter "Cherokee Bill" Goldsby.
@@a.leemorrisjr.9255Love that one
This my great great great grandfather.
The real long ranger.
Really? That’s awesome. I bet you’ve got some family stories.
Wow for real? Your family should do the real live movie based off of his life.
I thought you said Kunti Kenta was your Granddad.
Wow great history for your family to share!
That was really good it should be a full length movie.
I was searching 😭
They need to make a motion movie on his life . Overdue definitely.
Long overdue! They don’t want to make one though for the same reason they’ve tried to keep him a secret all these years.
I can see Denzel Washington playing him because he looked like in the MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
@@marlonladd Supposedly Amazon studios and some Chinese director named
Chole' Zhao are going to make a biopic about him don't know when it will come out or even if they started on it since they announced that they were going to do the movie April 2018 , wish a black director would do a biopic on him but hopefully if they do come out with the biopic , they get it right and they don't degrade or stereotype blacks in a negative manner because so far they haven't got any black historical biopic right including that disgrace of a film Harriet which I wouldn't watch for free
Hollywood would just fuck it up. I'd rather see a string of these shorts.
@@85jmurk Stories like ,black Wallstreet are the things Oprah Winfrey should be doing stories on instead of attacking black men.
Impressive quality of editing in this. That's what gives this short its feature film quality. Plus I'm glad to see that one of history's greatest people is finally getting some love. Bass Reeves was a legend. Even if you base your of him solely off of what can be verified through documents, his life reads like an old western. And he was the consummate Western hero that always saved the day, never got shot, and always brought his man in alive. Almost always. Of his over 3000 arrests, he had to kill 14 of them. Most people knew better than to try him. Some even turned themselves in when they heard Bass Reeves was hunting them. Considering the lawlessness of Oklahoma in the early 1800s, that makes Bass Reeves the toughest SOB of that century for sure.
Thanks for watching and leaving the kind comments, Matthew! You’re so right about Bass too!
Wow we need more bass Reeves was a true America n hero 😁
To my mind, Bass Reeves was the best along with Bill Tilghman. Both are men I greatly admire. They were both very honorable honest men who only worked for the law, not both sides of the road like some other well known "law men".
Why call him an SOB? Show some respect to his mother !!!
@@billsmlth5381 You are exposing Grand Canyon depths of ignorance. None of this is made up, it is a matter of record.
Judge Isaac Parker ran a tight ship and kept good records as did the courts, the prisons, and other offices where writs were issued and wages paid.
Now, Bass Reeves wasn't as pretty as the actor that played his part, so I guess you could doubt the historical accuracy of that part.
WOW! Another genuine, American Badass! 🇺🇸 Bass Reeves just gave me yet another reason to be a proud American! I now have another American Hero in Bass Reeves!
No he's more like a African badass Living in America. African hero that you can be proud of who lived in America!!! SHALOM

I can watch this over n over again, it never gets old! If a man can, I can, and if he can't I STILL CAN! I live by this code! Great movie I love it!
Thanks!! That’s one of my favorite lines of all time.
Man just watched this again, and I saw something new every time on par with the shawshank redemption, best ever bro. Can't get enough!
This man was the inspiration for the TV show called THE LONE RANGER!!!!
Ofcorse they made the line ranger a white man
@@7918476 Point taken yes they used a WHITE MAN while we remain in the shadows
But for the wrong reason.
I would like to see this man's story on a movie screen.
Here is some irony. In 1980's "Wildest West Show," Slade Foxworth recruits Belle Starr to be in a new Purple Sagebrush Gang. The Lone Ranger infiltrates Slade's gang disguised as The Sharpshooter. (In Reality, Bass Reeves arrested Belle Starr and disguised himself)
Bass Reeves was truly respected as a law enforcement officer in Indian and Oklahoma territory.
He was a master of disguise. Stealth, cunning and Fearless. Legend.

Note enough recognition for this great lawmen to say the least. Loved this short film of the infamous Bass Reeves.
About time they made the movie about this man! Probably the most prolific lawman of all time!
The REAL Lone Ranger!
Outstanding!
Great movie, it lives up to the story in an honest perspective!
If only there were a Bass Reeves’ Lone Ranger movie in 1994 where Denzel Washington portrays him.
10 stars. Great production of "The Real Lone Ranger"
Thanks, John!
💯
Bass Reeves had nothing to do with The Lone Ranger story. However, look at Rooster Cogburn from True Grit and his origins if you want to see a literary character with Bass Reeves influence.
Very well done. It was engrossing from start to finish.
Great job, Marlon. Congrats to everyone involved in this project. It was exciting to watch and see how it all came together from start to finish.
That man’s record, stands for its self. It don’t need no Lone Ranger to show anything about that record. He did an outstanding service during the years he served as a deputy US marshal.
Check his record for yourselves. You’ll see what a great lawman he really was.
I’ve been reading about this Bass Reeves for many years. There is no comparison at all, One is a fictitious story of a person who was a ranger now, him and a Indian friends ride together go after all kind of bad guys, wearing a mask having an Indian friend that accompanied him, riding a white horse, and shooting silver bullets.
Nice work! Just heard of Bass Reeves for the first time today-- he deserves to be better known!
Thanks and yes, you’re right! He does.
This should become a true movie...let's .aka it so.
Exactly!! I’d love to make it a feature film, but I need more $.
It is. It's called Hell on the Border and it comes out in December
I just stumbled upon this....I am very impressed. Awesome work...
Some of my favorite American Heroes are... Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mr Fred Rodgers, Harriet Tubman, Elvis Presley, George Washington, and now... Bass Reeves! Just to name a few!
Only real cats know about Bass Reeves!!
Pure greatness 🙌
Bass Reeves was Extra-ordinary

@@marlonladd M.L you need to create a movie script somehow, someway maybe get a movie done. Morgan Freeman is falling asleep on the job. I know it's a tall task. Why you? Why not you, this is what you do...
Ive told people about Bass for many years im glad such a film has been made however short. Im still looking for the VHS film that was made about Bass Reeves i seen back in 90s .
Thanks for watching and commenting, Mont. I released the first feature done on him in 2001, I think. It was called Black Marshal. What was the one you saw?
Darkside. I think you are talking about an early 1990s self-produced film called Bass Reeves, U.S. Deputy Marshal by a Black Indianan named Nick Jones. Good memory.
Interesting and insightful information about U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves is inspirational legacy! I pray that his legacy will eventually be made into a global movie, so the world will be able to learn about U.S Marshal Bass Reeves' accomplishments.
Thanks! They working on a limited series, so we’ll see.
Please don’t think this movie was a documentary and true depiction of Bass Reeves life. It wasn’t even close.
That's my great great grandpa
That mustache ain't got nothing on the real Bass Reeves's mustache.
True!! 😂
Thank you for showing this movie
Bass Reeves was a Real law man
Thanks for watching!
I am REALLY impressed with the quality of this work. Much better ad interesting than the one the studios are rolling out.
Thanks so much!
When are they going to make a full movie and tell his entire story?
They have. It’s called Hell on the Border. I haven’t seen it yet though.
Yup what he said above
I just watched " Hell on the border " and though it was enjoyable and even provided a few quite humorous scenes it is by no means even remotely historically accurate. The inclusion of Jesse and Frank James with Belle Starre { again pointlessly portrayed by a young good looking actress ] was a scene that really degraded the entire movie. Over all its a fun movie just dont rely on it for anything historical beyond his name.
I learned about this man in college in 2003 !!! The man was great and most people don’t know that he fought for the confederate army till the next to last year of the war!!! He was a great man and a amazing law man!! Even chased his own son for breaking the law and brought him back to go to prison for life!!! It’s a amazing story from our country!!!! What a great man!!! Of respect and honor!!!! I suggest that everyone looks at his true story!!!!!💯✊🍀🛠☮️🌿 The man is a true National treasure!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree!! Thanks for commenting!
It's amazing... How,ALL of America's Greatest Men/Heroes never got mentioned in !AMERICAN history books....Im sure we all know why.....R.I.P....TO THE REAL LONE RANGER......
Yep, I think most of us understand why this history was kept from the masses. It’s really unfortunate.
The problem with you statement Derek, is that he WAS mention in books in 1901, 1920, 1968 and several in the latter 20th Century. You just weren't reading the right books to come across him. No one speculated in a published book that Bass Reeves was the inspiration for the Lone Ranger until 2009 and then the author didn't even provide a shred of evidence. 😲
It's nice to see that Oklahoma hasn't changed much.
Fort Smith Arkansas has a Hugh picture of Bass Reeves as you come in to Fort Smith and a museum
I know about Bass Reeves. I learned about him on a documentary. The Lone Ranger was a black Lawman. It's true.
Excellent. My HERO of THE WEST !!! Actually, every Law enforcement agency should review Bass Reeves history before becoming officials and training officers. NUFF SAID
They should! But like many, they don’t even know who he is. Hopefully that’ll change soon.
This is the real Lone Ranger.
Hell yeah I want it on the big screen !
I was happy to find this! And surprised at the level of acting, action, all of it!! If you have anything else, and especially if you do a complete movie on my hero Bass Reeves, I must be informed. Excellent work! On a low note, it was so refreshing to see, I was sad and upset when it ended.
Thanks for the compliments and for stopping by, Bernard! I have lots of other movies on my channel, so definitely subscribe and share. If you get an opportunity, check out my Tulsa 1921 film about the Tulsa massacre.
Great Movie with awesome quality. This story should have been told decades ago! Bass was an awesome man!
Couldn't agree more!
Truth eventually finds it's way to the surface. Not at all surprised it hasn't been made a movie yet, it doesn't support the agenda!.
What agenda is that?
White washing of history
Thank you. As a child I watched old reruns of the Lone Ranger. Never knowing that it was biased on a man who looked like me.
Yep, same for me. I used to watch all of those episodes.
What an incredible story about a true American legend and hero in the lawless west! Here is to hoping that many more true stories will be told of the real heroes of the west and in American history.

The One and Only Bass Reeves, my fave
Finally, a real hero.
Wow, glad I found this. I originally seen the 6 min short with the shoot out in the woods. I thought that was great but this felt like a true Short film. I am a screenwriter looking to collaborate with Independent talent. I would like to see Bass Reeves on television or on the big screen; even Netflix. Keep up the good work, Marlon. Thanks, Serverus! I really appreciate that, man! The shootout in the woods movie I did way back in 2010. Lol! That's why you can tell a difference between the two. Glad to meet a fellow artist. What you been writing?
Well met indeed. Both Bass Reeves films were epic! I even watched the Jones Apocalyptic series, had me dying with the spar in Ep. 1 and the Michael Jackson battle later on; great cast and acting lol.
This script I am working on now is called Harlemites: about a Black Professor who buy's Harlem from a corrupt Governor in exchange for his state debt payoff; then later the Professor turns Harlem it into a Micronation for Black and urban refugees.
Well Hot Damn , too bad Tonto is made up , uh

Fun Fact "Criminals would often leave notes on the trail for Deputies pursuing them, saying that if they ever crossed the “dead line” they would be killed; Reeves collected more than a dozen of these in his career and kept them as souvenirs. "
Yep, that’s true. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent writing, acting, Excellent cast, crew and Excellent work.
Thank you!
We have pictures, Bass had a legendary mustache, they could have included that at the least
We need more men like Him, this day in age
Bass in my view was a super straight arrow. He arrested and brought in his own son. Unfortunately I think he would have been hated in today’s society and certainly in the black community. I do agree we need more like him today in all race’s not just the black communities.
If you want to see a full length film about this great man, "Corsicana' just came out in limited release...but it's so popular more and more theaters are showing it!
I want to see this movie. I would also like to see more movies of this nature. I hope I can relate my reasons here. I came to a place in my life, I could never imagine. I found myself in love and married to the most loving woman I ever met. I am white, my wife is black. Life is good. We have some fantastic grand kids of which I am very close to my Grandson(we lost his father) I more Dad then Grampa . We love going to the movies to watch westerns. Took him to see the last Magnificent Seven, and learned something. When I was a child I had my heros. My Davy Crockett, Kit Carson, Wyatt Earp and so on and on. I looked at my Grandson watching every move Denzil Washington made. I saw something I think is very important I had my heros, they looked like me. Where are the heros that look like my Grandson. He needs them. Heros are stars that help us navigate through life. They are important. He needs there stories to help him know what he can do. I am a student of Western History. I know these heros are there. I've read about them. I can name names, Jim Beckworth, Nate Love , Will Picket , the ninth and tenth Cavalry. This is were and when pride is born in a man. I want these for my Grandson and a lot of other young men just like him
You’re absolutely right. It’s so important. Thank you for sharing your story and thanks for being an advocate for our African-American heroes.
@@marlonladd my thanks to you. Being a parent and a role model is very hard at times and as important as it is for youths to have these heros, it's important that the parents know who they are. Case in point. Ironically my favorite heros was The Lone Ranger. And that was alright by my folks. He had a code, a good code for children . Parents knew it was a good influence. On the other hand Ma didn't approve of Superman. Treaded to close to godly powers nope. I've lived already a long life, a good life and I would like to think that my heros helped get me here. As I said, my Grandson and other young men like him need them. Also,my Grandson's number one hero is me, because I know the heros he needs, and I have shown them to him. But I am one, this needs the efforts of those who can bring these stories to life.
This will be put in the CRT Folder as history we don't want to teach.
Bass Reeves was the original Lone Ranger
Bass Reeves was so respected by his fellow deputies when there was warrant for the arrest of son because he killed another man they didn't want to give it Reeves but Reeves being Reeves knew he had duty to the warrant and arrested his own son and convince him to take responsibility for his actions and 11 years in prison
Maybe Tyler Perry or Spike Lee will get the real story of Bass Reeves ( the Lone Ranger ) and make a long feature movie or series of his story. That's very possible now.
Those two house boys that you just mentioned they won't make anything but what they're allowed to make!!! I'm Yahudah🕎
I don't want neither one touching this man's legacy.
he afraid of a little thunder? LOL straight shooter aka top shotah in Patwa aka Jamaican dialect. anyway, I luv this movie so much! how the suspense is built up towards Bass Reeves entrance which is right on the money and aphrodisiac. amazing interpretation of Bass Reeves. keep it up! Thanks, Jamaican Singer! I love black history too. Got many more movies to do. God willing, I’ll keep it up! Have you seen my Tulsa 1921 yet?
They didn't teach this in our schools.
A black man being one of the greatest law enforcement officers to ever live is a problem for some people in our country. Unfortunately there has been a systemic attempt to keep African-Americans from learning much about our history.
