I'm so impressed with Spencer Carbery. He's able to make adjustments and get guys to successfully execute completely different styles of play and gameplans depending on the opponent. That is definitely something the Capitals haven't been able to do in a long time.

Plus/Minus is a meaningless stat. I say it every time people bring up Ovi, and I'm sticking to it even when it's a positive. You don't get a plus for a PP goal. You only get a minus if the team scores shorthanded. You get a minus, or plus, even if you are not involved in a play but are merely on the ice.

Surgery still postponed so here are some stats. Again, I can't watch the games. What follows is my opinion. Arvidsson who has lit up Ottawa in the past 6 games continues that trend with a Goal and an Assist (on the PP goal). Hyman scored (the PP goal) and has scored 10 goals in his last 9 games including in 6 straight. Rico got his 3rd goal of the season (finally) though he lost a tooth during the game (from a high stick if memory serves). For Ottawa they had one goal from Cousins, unassisted. Ullmark left the game after the first period with an upper body injury and didn't return. Merilainen took over for the last 2 periods. Both goalies had identical .857 Save %ages. At the other end Stu let in one and stopped the rest for a .952 Save %age (Excellent). Stats wise, both teams same # of shots, Ottawa out hit Edmonton (not a surprise) 16 to 11, Ottawa won 10 more faceoffs (rare) 29 to 19. The Senators also took a LOT more penalties (12 minutes to 4) and gave one up on the PP. The Oilers PK kept the sheet clean. Oilers had more Giveaways (18 to 13), more Takeaways (7 to 5), and LOT more blocks (24 to 6). Ottawa was frustrated and sloppy (hence the penalties). Edmonton kept their cool. Bouch had another bad night. With LA's loss to Washington, the Oilers leap frog them and move into 2nd place in the Pacific 3 points back of Vegas who didn't play tonight. The big game is the next one after the Christmas break next Saturday when Edmonton faces LA in an important match. Take care all.
As someone who was an Arizona fan before the move it feels like the curse has carried over. Whenever we play Anaheim the game just feels so sloppy, and if the game goes out of regulation it feels like Anaheim always wins. It's a bit frustrating to watch, not sure how Anaheim fans feel about it but all the dumb emotional penalties that happen are just so frustrating to watch. Carlsson takes an unsportsmanlike penalty for yelling at the ref (hope hes ok tho he did end up going to the locker room not sure if he returned) and Cooley with such a stupid slash that ended up in the powerplay that tied it. Feels like over the past few seasons those teams have just been building up a lot of dislike for each other.
