Exciting, stressful, hilarious! Instructor was great. All stuff that runs through our minds when we’re way up at the top. I always stress out when you’ve been pushing the limits and it’s time to turn around. Afraid I’m going to lose it at the ridge and not be able to get up there. You’ve got some grapes, on the way down I probably would have played it safe and gone back up to hit those chutes with a new pack. That was cool at the end … “ I can make it, I can make it, I can make it!” A few weeks ago, I had to go back for 3 days in a row , to hike till dark every day. Found her through . No damage, not even a prop. Just a new battery. Had GPS coordinates, just had to keep looking. I’ve got Marco Polo locators on a few now . Just head in that direction and you can beep your way right to it. Killer vid.
Playing safe is always better, the goal is to return as late as possible, but early enough that you have enough juice left to fly a few extra minutes near yourself.. just in case Respect, that you invested that much time, always worth it! Lost drones aren't that great for nature and your pocket😅 Never heard about that locators before.. I've a GPS Buddy and a backup battery hocked up to my Crsf Diversity.
I like how the battery voltage just stops showing after dropping below a certain amount. Its like "Yo you clearly do not care, I'm just gonna leave cya"
I was shocked at how long it continued to fly when the battery was so low. You flew over two spots I would have intentionally crashed it just so I would guarantied get it back. I don't know if you're brave or dumb. I just can't believe you made it as far as you did. Either way I'm glad it worked out. I've lost drones before. Maybe its made me a coward LOL. Great vid. Never seen anything like it. And the AI voice reminded me of the Descent Freespace Tutorial voice. Very cool!
I couldn't explain I just knew I would make it. Looking back I risked too much. I felt the last drop of energy the moment I slowed down for touchdown. Was even too concentrated to talk... I'm sorry for your loss😳✖️ Thank you so much 🫶🏼
…too bad I wasn’t there that day. This is usually the spot I fly on weekends. You are crazy-respect!! You went all the way. I have lost already about 3 quads in that area. Never found them. Got struck by hawks, prop failure and who knows what. The whole way on a lipo…seeing this video on walksnail - I am now considering to try digital!! never thought that the system would keep up that good, LOS is quite difficult above the first ridge. Great Video
Wow what a coincidence that you found that video! I envy your location😍 Definitely would've been nice to get tips from a local. Incredible that you lost that many bad luck.. If I had flown this on LiIon everything might have been fine but this video probably won't exist 😂 In my opinion the range is similar to analog. If you could work with large stutters and aim your head perfectly it's an advantage!
which VTX are you using ? And on what power mode you are flying in this video ? great showcase of what you should never do to your battery :D hint: >do the following ONLY on your own risk, you can blow up/burn things with this method < If you sucked a lipo battery far lower than 3v/cell and your charger wouldnt charge it anymore because of deep discharge you could always try to pull up the voltage manually. For this you have to use a normal lab power supply with adjustable voltage AND ampere (connect each cell seperatly - i do this through the balance lead) - then simply set the current voltage of your cell on the power supply, pull up the ampere and change your voltage SLOWLY and CAREFULLY 0.1V steps upwards, wait on each voltage step till no power is consumed anymore, then next voltage step. Do this till you got in voltage range where your charger would charge the pack again. Give it few cycles on your charger to discharging completely and charge again (with balancing at the end) But dont forget to really stress test the lipo you rescued, before you fly it again ... and of course, check internal resistance values of your lipo at charged state, they should not be that different to each other. If you got drifting away resistance values always keep in mind that the cells would discharge at different ratios then - one bad cell could impact your whole lipo. And dont do this procedure more often than one time with the same lipo pack and in general always keep in mind the following (to get the haters satisfied): you should always throw away lipo packs if they got deep discharged one time - because you could not rely on them anymore!
Wow, thanks for that hint! I'm not sure if I would try that😅 Still good to know... I was using Ovonic 6s 4500mAh 100C and it recovered pretty good till i was able to charge it back up again. Also it didn't do anything unexpectedly when flying it for the next time. Just the resistance seems to be a bit off. This the WS V1 @700mw 720p High Framerate VRX.
Nice love the video! Mountain surfing with WalkSnail is beautiful, but super stressful… constant freezing & threat of disconnect! Stressing me out just watching…Haha! I’ve only lost one quad in the mountains and it was during a WS test video a couple months ago. Just went blank and GPS Rescue failed. Analog/HDZero are still my preferred Mountain Surfing FPV setups, less image quality but much better feedback about signal quality and antenna aiming.
Thank you, I'm pretty confident with these freezing images just need a lot more aim training. I wish I'd have more opportunities to fly in the mountains💭 I've watched that video, bad luck.. might gone well if u had this instructor 😂 I might get the HdZero V2, but still not sure whether to put it on a freestyle or long range drone.
@@r.eyvprdctn Yea, aiming with DJI/WalkSnail is extremely difficult because they don’t give you instant feedback. With HDZero/Analog you move your head left/right until you see static then go back to the middle. (I demonstrate this here: ruclips.net/video/CYphV5FPbYc/видео.html) Also as you start to get too close to trees or behind rocks you instantly get static and can quickly adjust your flight path. DJI/WalkSnail are really good at hiding signal issues, which is generally awesome, BUT… not ideal for “risky LOS” situations. It would be cool if WalkSnail could make a “RAW signal mode” with no buffering for these sorts of situations.
@@r.eyvprdctn was thinking about this again, I’d be curious to see you do some Mountain Surfing with HdZ to hear your thoughts. Just keep in mind you need much better antennas for HdZ than with WS because HDZ shows exactly what is received, vs WS which can buffer & repair (cover) poor antenna performance.
@@GiantAntCowboy Yeah, I might try the Hdzero V2 vtx.. I don't have giant helical antennas like you do but I have truerc patches installed, just need to figure out how to quick swap between WS and Hdzero... Sry for my late response. My setup should be listed in the description, I got no stock antennas and am using 2x patch and 2x omni on my vrx but should be similar to google performance. In this video you should find all the tips necessary to reach 8km+ Most importantly don’t stress if you got no signal, try to make slow and controlled inputs to get up or to the other side of the obstacle that blocks your line of sight.
that was brilliant. been there done that. made it back last second before throttle became soft. how can i use this narrator? its hilarious for people like me who doesnt wanna talk in video and become a youtube star🤣very nice flight. also: what made you fly those extra long curves right at the end when you saw you still 2km out and battery is already low?
This video should prevent from doing the same fault again - especially myself😂 Just search for AI Speech, there´s a lot of competition. I knew that this canyon was there and I REALLY wanted to fly it, you could watch me desperately searching for it (one flight, one battery). But on the way I neglected that I was using Lipo... If possible relax and fly multiple batteries at one spot to get every shot you want.
@@r.eyvprdctn i know i tried to google search it. but all voices i found there are lame. please give me a name what you used. i find it myself if you point me in the direction buddy! 😅🙏🙌 and yes you right. i had the same situation before. saw a cloud hanging on a distant mountain. slowly disappearing so i just went for it as fast i could without checking the area first and fly some lipos. when i reach the cloud i saw lipo already half empty and it was further away than i imagined. and then the GPS home arrow glitched out, pointed me in the complete wrong direction. almost lost the new quad that day plus new action 4 cam.
