Hello my British Soul brother! Thank you for reacting to this songs. This is THE MOST FAVORITE LOVE SONG when I was a young wife and mother of 2 at the age of 24! I am a Black American woman now living in the so called Golden Years of her Retirement, nearly 70 years of age.
This music is Soul music which eventually evolved into R&B in the 60s into the 70s. Black music is always evolving but I find my peace, my joy with this era of Black American music; Soul, R&B, Funk, Rap, Hip Hop and NOW...... I'm not sure what that music is! This was when you slow danced with a chick you've been trying to bag all night, and you ask what she was doing after the club. Back when this song came out there was no streaming, no youtube, no video channels and no real blending of R & B artists with pop or rock artists. In my neighborhood how we put hits in the hearts of the youth was what song was rattling the trunks and what songs dominated those trunks in the summer time. Lenny's, Cause I love checked all the boxes in my neighborhood and all the black people i knew. It was a massive hit, while at the same time unheard of with almost every non-black person I knew. Needless to say, I am happy to see your reaction. One more thing, this is a remake from a more uptempo version of this song from an earlier album from either Lenny Williams or the group he was apart of (Tower of Power), I can't rmbr which.

I'm back again with another suggestion. Have you heard and Marvin Gaye music? I recommend his 1970 album release called "What's Going On". A true Masterpiece and any song you chose from that album will be phenomenal! I suggest you start with the albums namesake, "What's Going On" and take it from there.
