- Nathaniel Rateliff performs "Nothing To Show For" live for www.sideshowall...
ABOUT THE EPISODE
With the hustle of the Bowery below, in this second part on top of a beautiful rooftop location in Manhattan, we're treated to another amazing performance from the Communion Austin to Boston tour. If you've watched our earlier episode from The Staves you will notice some familiar faces here.
Nathaniel Rateliff was the sole USA native joining the 3 other english acts on the road. A local folk hero in his hometown of Denver, Colorado, Nathaniel spent many years as a truck driver before taking to his true craft. When the tour rolled into NYC, Richie, Sammi and rest of the SSA crew were on hand to capture this performance.
On cameo slate duties, Ben Lovett (Mumford & Sons) set things into action. Playing a yet to be released track, this gentle bear who wears his heart on his sleeve, belted out a story from the soul. A quick pan around roof revealed just how easy it is to be drawn into his tender tunes.
We've been lucky enough to be immersed into this man's music. We recommend you do the same. Check out the album In Memory of Loss to hear more.

This man's music has saved my soul.... Maybe even my life.
The first time I heard anything from him I was at the lowest I've ever been. I needed the words so badly...and he gave them to me. 💓
I share this same story.... at the lowest part of my life I saw his first performance of early spring till at the High Dive in Denver.... I felt like he knew exactly how I felt and he was singing the words as a soundtrack to my life... i wasnt alone anymore
@@TommyMoore3 my first song was And It's Still Alright. I cried the entire time
Is that Ben Howard henging out? Hell yeah, get me to that rooftop I want to play!
Nathaniel Rateliff just made it to my top five. What an amazing songwriter... David bazan, Damien Jurado, Nathaniel Rateliff, Neil Young and Jim James.
Dude has a voice and a half.💕
Guys guys....I think this is from the music documentary Austin to Boston. Watch it. A lot of great songs from The Staves, Ben Howard, Nathaniel and so on when they were touring together :)
Nathaniel Rateliff is amazing!
Never heard of him before last Wednesday. He opened for the Lumineers in New Orleans. He entered at least one more fan that night.
When you're not religious and you say "God, this is something out there"... totally different from him and the night swets, which is also another non religious claim "them, God, they are genius", and he is awesome. Being following him and them for the last 5 years, although nate claims a lot not to be recognized, somehow I am thankful of that. Keep it real nate, that's what is making you all. Much love!
When youre not religous just please read bible go tu church you need to not belevie but know that there is smt
So jealous! NYC my favorite city and my favorite singer 💗💗💗💗💗

Nice
this guys voice is so legit, amazing, impossible not to chill with this track
That one take version on a rooftop will never sound better...
One single out of ten
Seen better odds in them
But it's not that bad
Well me
I was digging with my crutch
I stand in my own rut
That I wrote down
While you
Don't listen you just stare
Its not pealing it's a tear
And it's distance and it's where
It's gettin under my skin
But a wave
Could carry you away
Or leave you somewhere else
Or leave you in the flames
So let the dirges ring
I'll be there to burn with you
We're all broke down
We're all well hid
We're all just kids
Despite our age
Look
You see this broken hand
Oh it's just another limb
Well not to me
And you
Don't listen you just talk
Well leave me in the dark
I don't wanna know
Now a wave
Could carry you away
Or leave you somewhere else
Or leave you in the flames
So let the dirges ring
I'll be there to burn with you
They don't call my name anymore
They don't wrap themselves in a song in the night
They don't call us all that we are
After all, we got nothing to show for
Through The Roof !! ;)
omg theres also the lady from the staves !!!

LG-2? yes? no? help me?
Nogge YO looks like a gibson songwriter, probably a deluxe model.
OK. There were a bunch of what most city folks might call guys up there cheering you on, when there are actual dudes that like girls lovin your shit out in the hinterland of our beautiful country :)
Those are the other artists from the Communion tour in 2015. It's documented in the movie, Austin to Boston. No need for ridiculous commentary in the middle of a great song.
two headed bo... oh wait
Looks like Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan + 30 pounds.
I am so in love with this guy
Shannon Leigh me too 😍
How do they get such good sound on a windy roof top?
A good boom mic with a thick wind protector and it is perfectly possible. Not sure which recorder is that but Zoom and Tascam make great portable recorders like this one to record on the go. A little wire mic into the hole of the guitar, a little compression and added reverb in post and you have a great product.
it's like playing spot the Communion Music member
Who isn't part of Communion on that rooftop??
watchin ben chilling jusylt cools me up
This was from the night they played at the Mercury Right? I caught a Bus up to NY after they had to cancel their VA show. Ben Howard, The Staves, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Bear's Den all playing the same show, shit was too good to be true.
Ben Howard !! Two great artists on one rooftop
Noticed Ben Lovett from the M&S introducing Nathaniel...wow!
This version of this song is so beautifully pure. It is a mainstay at our house. Thank you for this.
Beautiful. One of the best songs I ever heard. God bless
