These are starting to become available in Walmart, Toys R Us, and Target. Got mine on my birthday and man does Classic Voltron 84 look awesome. Great poses and sturdiness.
This is a thing of beauty. I was hoping when the other one came out last year that they'd consider the classic one. I agree with you on the shoulder articulation but it's a good compromise. I wish that the Black Lion came with weapons too, but that's just me nitpicking. Thanks for taking the time to share with us.
I got the black lion for Christmas back in '85. Took it to school where my classmates had the other lions. We spent first recess assembling Voltron and the second recess arguing over who got to play Voltron.
The shoulder's swiveling on the black lion killed it for me. Otherwise, if I didn't already have the GX-71 I'd be very happy with this. I may still grab it, keep them in lion mode and keep the SoC for combined. This is a pretty solid effort.
Omigosh, the end was SO CUUUTE!! Voltron with a cookie is so yes. And Voltron needs a BFF~! Of course, Gary has to be there too! lol This was a really thorough and detailed review, like always~! I really like the voice quality of the characters, too!!! It's really cool the toy parts can be mix-matched with the Legendary VLD lions!!! That possibility made my jaw drop haha And the 84 lions' articulation is SO IN-DEPTH!!! Someone really put love into making these. Voltron seems to have plenty of that; it's quite moving! Thanks for this video. I was excited about these as I had them as a kid (still have them but broken). They however not classic in true form. The legs were metal and there were certain features that don't appear on this model. For instance the red and green lions had a spring loaded head that shot the head off. The yellow lions cheeks flipped out and the blue lions crown pulled up for a cannon. There was never any sound or lights either. Thanks for the review though! You saved me $$. I also disagree that it's the best representation. It's just a cheap remake.

If I wanted a original Voltron Defender of the Universe from 1984, that a believe wast cast metal, how would I find one. I’ve tried for a while. I am all for being patient but nothing wrong with stacking the deck in my favor.
I think that they should make an 84 classic metal defender Voltron because I love the metal defender Voltron and the classic Voltron so I wish to see them both put into one.
Are these out in the UK yet? We have The Basic Figures,The Metal Defenders,The Legendary Lions and the Deluxe Voltron yet no matter where I look I can't find these. I'd prefer to not get from online as chances are I'd have to pay Import charges.

I really hope they're working on a Vehicle Voltron for next year. I'm kind of on the fence about whether I want this one, I just got the VLD for christmas and I feel like the basic Voltron shape is similar enough that I don't also need a classic one, but I NEED a modern articulated Dairugger and I cant afford (or even find) the Miracle one at this point
thespaceram2 I've not tried SoC-style sitting poses, but I don't believe the lions can do them. Black doesn't have the hollowed-out thighs to support a seated pose, Red & Green lack swivels just behind their waists, and Blue & Yellow's torsos have no articulation in the midsections.
Also if you could only pick one the 84 retro or the dreamworks what would you pick? Thank you and great detailed video. I did not mind at all that it was scripted because that guarantees that you don’t leave out any details and for a review that is a big A+++ for me.

The kids now are saying that the classic voltron sucks. It depends on the point of view. Each generation tastes differ. Coming from someone born in 83'
they did much better on these ones, i like how they put release plates on the arms, the legendary defender version's arms are really hard to get off (especially green lion) and they added head rotation, which the legendary defender one desperately needed.
Great review. Just wondering where did you get the display stands that holding the lions at? Also im buying 2 sets of these.one to keep in box and the other to display. The part you say that the voices are not the ones from the tv series as I want to confirm if they are or not as I listen to them it sounds like they are.On a side note .i wished playmates added diecast to these and would had look greater if they had given the lions the metallic treatment and had given each lion electronics instead of just the black lion.
videomechanix The voices are not those of the original cast. For example, Lennie Weinrib (Think) passed away in the early 2000s. Having said that, they sound very similar!

I had the original with metal legs when i was a kid and it came with all 5 lions, i got it on Jamaica Avenue ,it was waaaay better than this 1, it had more detail and looked more durable
they should have gone one step further here, the option to actually do the music when the lets form voltron prompt is used, where it than goes through the activate interlock, dynatherms connected, infra cells up, megathrusters are go. than have the team say let's go voltron force. start epic music, have the further option to have it say form feet and legs, form arms and body, and I'll form the head end in epic roars for blazing sword have the thing say form blazing sword when you bang the mouths a certain way, play music again that'd be sick
i know im 9 months late, but the blazing sword one is literally impossible the red green blue and yellow lions don't have electronics in them, so they can't do the form blazing sword thing
Im gonna be probably the first to say this but DO NOT LIMB SWAP. my set was alright until I limb swapped. Since then, the buttons inside my classic black lion was messed up and cant stay pushed in when combined
Huge figure, cheap price, anime-accurate look, durable build.. what else could you ask for? IMHO, the only downside of this figure is the lack of chrome and metal parts.
I am going to get this but come on man. Why can't they get the robot mode arm lengths about a half inch shorter on these figures? He looks like he's scratching his damn knees.

Since only the shoulders move, can you tab red and green in different for other poses while keeping the red on the chest the way it should be?
