Yeah and the whole Elven look thing really threw me on this. They did good overall with the Animation and such, but I never sat thru much of this after a few episodes
Honestly, as much as people didn’t like seasons 7 and 8 of Legendary Defender, I liked them because they had Keith in his rightful place at the head of Voltron!
Ever notice how most of the episode's conflicts aren't actually solved by voltron? Often they're just solved by the characters thinking their way around the situation, making the show less predictable.
Well, if there was one thing the original '80s show had as a weakness, it's the fact that it was by and large formulaic...much like the Super Sentai shows it was based off of. You could set your watch by the points that the Robeast would show up, by when the Voltron Force would launch, and when they'd form Voltron. Like clockwork. Every now and again, an episode would break formula...but not often.
I'd actually call that one of the biggest weaknesses of the show -- they used Voltron so little, it was like he wasn't even needed. And it was less "thinking around it" than "pulling some new dues ex machina out of the air."
Powerpuff Girls 98 would be more accurate since the Show did not air mostly in the 90s,It began in Q4 1998 and Aired until Q1 2005. I prefer listing them by the Year they began.
True. The original 80's lion Voltron looks like his armor is a much stronger metal. The writing seems good on the new series. It looks like it is a good show over all.
And yet none of you guys have ever heard of Beast King GoLion, which baffles me a lot considering many of you like the original show without enough research.
The one thing I really thought was an essential leap from the 80's into the future was the fact that the lions weren't merely just lions, they had a sort of "animal" like essence to them. And with that essence, they bonded to their pilots. In order for the lions to form Voltron, all five of the pilots must learn to focus their mental powers to combine their talents. So doing, the lions work in tandem with their pilots and form Voltron. Whereas in the 80's, Keith was eessntially the heart of Voltron.. And had only to use controls to get the lions to combine.
One of my points in favor of Voltron LD, too. Though in defense of Voltron DU, I have to point out that the Black Lion roared at the team when they first arrived, and the Blue Lion refused to answer an unworthy pilot even when he had the key.
NO NO NO. It was not dramworks that animated this master piece of animation. It was Studio Mir. Just want to clarify. They animated The legend of Korra
That's not what they meant. It's Dreamworks' creation. They hired Studio Mir, but Mir doesn't come up with the story or anything. Studio Mir is simply an animation studio in South Korea that takes contracts from many different companies. Movies and TV series do that a lot. For example, Gargoyles was an American cartoon created by Disney, but the studio that animated it was in Japan. Disney directors and such traveled to Japan to work with the studio, give storyboards, discuss designs. However, that doesn't include voice acting, music, sound effects, etc. That's why you often see many logos in the credits for movies and tv series. Beautiful projects are a joint effort. Plus, Studio Mir has also done more than just Legend of Korra for Nickelodeon. They've also animated for Disney (Guardians of the Galaxy), Legos (Elves: Secret of Elvendale), various online video games (the 2D animated parts of Asura Online), and various other movies and tv series (like Boondocks). Ultimately, though, it was Dreamworks that decided to experiment with the reboot of Voltron and chose Studio Mir to create the 2D animation style they thought would best fit. That's what they mean when they say Dreamworks created it.
I am a huge fan of the the Original Voltron, but have to say that the new series has been fantastic, the respect given to the original show has been outstanding, while giving a great back story for all the characters including the Lions, if you haven't seen this yet, then go give it a chance
Wow... This is probably the first time the reboot is better than the original.👌 (in my opinion) I love how Voltron Legendary Defender gets into darker themes, such as Pidge's gender, Keith's tragic past and Shiro being held into slavery by the galra for a year. Season 2 was worth the wait and season 1 was great too. I can't wait for season 3.👍💖
Kawaii Princess I agree. I'm 34 and grew up with the original series. I've seen all of both the original Japanese Golion and the American Voltron we all know and love. Both are classics and hold a very special nostalgic place in my heart. That all being said this new series BLOWS them both out of the water. Obviously animation is better but it's just not that. The over all story is amazing. Like you said, Pidges gender switch and the dark pasts of both Keith and Shiro add so much richness to the series. The voice acting makes you really care and you're invested in these characters. I still have a lot of love for the original and always will...but this new series could really be a contender for Legendary status on its own. Btw way.....the last line of season two......MY GOD!! Gave me chills. Haha. 😃
Geoff Marker Everything in season 2 gave me chills!! There was just so much drama and with last line confirming the introduction of one of the characters from the original series. (trying so hard not to spoil anything😣)
I agree. while the original was my first taste of anime, and is very special to me in that regard, i recognize that this version is just able to tackle certain issues such as violence better. And honestly, i love the changes with Pidge and Allura. Also, this team just made every character memorable. i mean in the past show, while i love it, the characters were kinda flat. oh and what they did with Keith and Hagar was awesome.
Aisu Tenshi In a world of bad reboots and CGI animation replacing 2d, it's refreshing to see a series like this. I love how they mixed CGI/3D animation with a 2D anime style and made it look natural. (because that seems very hard to do and almost all the animators that tried to do that failed) I love CGI but I definitely don't want 2D animation to disappear forever (then that means no more anime😣😢) so I like the animation as much as the deep storytelling.
Right, at least now there's a reason for it. It was infuriating before, because there was no reason for it at all. But I wonder why they don't just change suits in the new one. That might be weird, though.
I grew up watching the old Voltron, and lets be honest, we were children, It was good, but it doesn't age well. This version is superior in every way. It's great, and I think it will keep getting better and better.
@@omarcrespo77 I would still love to watch the original now as a grown man; King Zakan, Prince Lotur, Princess Alora, Koran and the rest of them. But we need to give room for change as this is the constant thing in life. Voltron was and still is a big hit and I am glad I was part of it.
RUdigitized that's what I was thinking. I hope they don't go that route with this one since they keep hinting at Keith controlling the Black Lion if anything ever happens to Shiro
Here's my guess: (Spoilers?) Keith and Shiro talked 3x about Keith taking over as leader of Team V. Shiro's gone (for some reason) Kieth HAS to take over the Black Lion if he's going to be leader. It would be weird for the leader to be in the arm. If they do that then they are going to do some 'writing trickery' to move Lance into the red lion and Alura into the Blue Lion. Reason I think that is because 1. Keith has flown the black lion once now, and 2. That was the original team setup in the original series and they are throwing back to it which is awesome. The only other possibilities are that Alura takes over the black lion (Which goes against Shiro's wishes) or Keith moves to black and Alura takes over red... ... Also there's a distant possibility that Koran takes over the Red Lion. Yes it was a joke but I found it curious that they've been setting up Keith to become the leader and Koran happens to jokingly take over the red lion. ALSO Lotor was a badass in the original series. He was even worse than his dad. I can't wait.
RUdigitized yeah, I don't think that makes much sense, seeing that season 3 we had shiro strengthening his bond with his lion, and it wouldn't make sense to do that if Shiro is gone, and Keith or even Allura becomes the pilot of the black Lion. It just makes the shiro bonding with his lion pointless. Also. These lions have personalities. Lance doesn't compliment the Red Lion, and neither does Allura. It all depends on how the characters personalities, match with the Lions. Keith was only able to pilot the black Lion to save Shiro. Who knows if the black Lion will allow Allura to pilot it. Especially if the black Lion knows that Shiro is still alive through their bond. It may seem like at this point, the black Lion will only allow Keith to pilot it, because of Keith's bond with Shiro. But who knows what the red Lion will do. Also, lance is very happy with his blue Lion, and I don't think he would want to switch lions
Apparently they tried, but the rights to the music were tied up with another company. Which sucks, the original theme music would have made the new series perfect.
Big time. The opening sequence I understand has to be different or updated but I greatly miss that when watching the new one...and the music as you say
My only criticism of the Netflix version is that it's on Netflix. Inaccessible to people who don't pay/subscribe to it. Why no broadcast it on Free-To-Air television like the original series?
I just finished the first season, I discovered it sort of by accident, and this show blows my mind. The animation is amazing, the characters all get their moments to become three dimensional and the overall concept is compelling. It is a kid's show of course, but there is an underlying depth to the story and the characters that hint at something far more complex and intricate. I was really surprised at how well I like this show, as I just watched the first episode out of boredom. I'm glad I did!
The new series doesn't top the original,it stands exceptionally well on it's own.I was just hoping that they would have started with the pilots from BEFORE Keith and his guys founded the Lions and show us how the war started but then they just gave us a brief look in the recent season.
My favourite easter egg is when they first launch the castle and they say: "Activate interlock! Dynotherms connected! Infracells up! Mega thrusters are go!"
My dad was a big Voltron fan back then and he started watching the new one with me(I haven't seen both new and old) and he had to inform me along the way, it's fun to see that even veteran fans would explain what's going on even though they don't know what's going on themselves.
The real reason this show is great is because it's essentially the same creative team behind The Legend of Korra, and it's the same animation Studio behind The Legend of Korra. They're the best in the business.
I came home from school one day in September of 1984 and sat down for afternoon cartoons. Five points of light streaked through space and I heard the words "From days of long ago..." I was instantly hooked. The new series is the most exciting and respectful redo I have ever seen. They took something from my childhood and resurrected it into something richer and better than it was before without stripping too much of the classic patina that I loved as a child. I've still got my old Voltron thermos and lunchbox and I am enjoying the new life they have breathed into these characters. Can't wait until season 5.
Dunno if a third has been confirmed, but there were three significant words at the end of Season 2 that basically says "We can go for more". I guess it is a decision left up to Netflix at the moment.
Voltron was, hands down, my favorite childhood cartoon. That being said, where is the music?? The most iconic part of the show was forming Voltron, and the theme should have been kept in my opinion.
Jason Headlee there were some copyright issues with the music, so they couldn't really use it for this reboot unfortunately. they would've, I'm sure, but :((
Having grown up with the 80s Voltron, I'm really enjoying the depth of the new storyline. My only complaint is that the music is just so bland and at times doesn't match up with what is going on in the scene. I really enjoyed the music of the classic. Also, I miss the voice of Peter Cullen doing the narration.
Yeah, they also referenced it in the same episode when Pidge went around the mall giving signatures while "cosplaying" the original Pidge for free stuff
I hope that in the future filmmakers take a look at how this show handles diversity. It's completely organic, meaning that it's not at all forced. Characters happen to have certain racial and / or ethnic backgrounds, but that's it. They're not defined by them. Except in the case of Keith (who's racial background was / is a big deal for a good reason), I never really gave their racial and / or ethnic backgrounds much thought, and that's how it should be. It's also nice to see that the producers understand that diversity INCLUDES white people, something a lot of the SJWs out there don't seem to understand. At first I was a bit upset at how comparatively weak this Voltron seemed. The first couple of fights didn't go very well, and very nearly saw Voltron captured or destroyed. But as the show went on, I realized what the problem was... Voltron wasn't weak, not at all. The pilots were just inexperienced, still learning how best to use the power under their command, and by the end of season two both the pilots and audience start understanding just how incredibly powerful Voltron really is. I think the fights in season three are where Voltron's might is really going to start shining through, and I absolutely cannot wait! Now if only we could get Dreamworks to do a Robotech reboot...
@@ЕвгениЯнков-ш5в A group of people from the very, very far left. They take their political stance to the extremes, and bash certain groups, such as white people and men, who were racist or sexist to other groups of people in the far past, while also glorifying other groups. They support taking away free speech, and have a hive mind sort of mindset. (earning their nickname, NPC.) It's kinda hard to describe them, but picture a 4 year old baby whining about being misunderstood for being car gender or something, ranting on and on about people being racist to black people nowadays while that certain four year old also continues on to be racist to white people. That's the best comparison I can make.
@@omarcrespo77 That's a legal snarl of an entirely different issue. Permission has to be gotten from both Studio Tatsunoko (the original makers of Macross, Southern Cross, and MOSPEADA) and Harmony Gold (creator of Robotech) as well as possibly from the estate of Carl Macek. Either way, that's a lot of money to get passed around before they could even start production.
Jericho Jack Definitely my favorite character. Too bad her arc was pretty much completely glossed over in it's conclusion (seriously, nobody friggin cared).
glad that they made Pidge a girl. alura, is more suited as commander from the castle. just wish they didn't have shiro vanish. hope they bring shiro back.
🦁 Voltron: Legendary Defender season 2 is out today on Netflix! 👍 We couldn't be more excited to binge it all weekend! After watching some of the original series as well, we knew we had to cover it with a "Then And Now" video! What other series should we do for "Then And Now" ? 🤔 ⁉️
As much as I love reboot-Voltron, I feel like the story got really butchered around season 6-7. Character developments went back and forth (ie. only Keith got a real breakthrough in his character, Pidge and Hunk could definitely have been utilized more apart from plot convenience and comedic relief, Shiro was literally brought back because the executives demanded him back - thus messing up the story), structures went awkward, etc. I dunno man. I got disappointed in the end part. Couldve definitely been better.
I was glad that shiro came back - it gave keith a chance to really get in touch with his Galran side and work closely with the blade. As some one who binged the whole thing with out knowing the meddling and interventions before hand - it felt seamless.
@@nerfinham I recommend watching reviews about the show. A lot of the character relationships were out of whack, many connections felt disingenuous and always putting comic relief on things that could have had emotional weight and depth in them. Feels like Star wars TLJ all over again.
i am a 90s child and havent seen the original VOLTORN but when i got netflix i did watch some then and i never did finish it. then I found VOLTRON LEGENDARY DEFENDER and I fell in love with VOLTRON big fan of the reboot and i hope the movie dose well.
Seth Desalvo I kinda wish I never watched the original as a kid. Something's just don't wash out with soap 😅! Going back to some of those old shows, I'm just left with amazement of how I ever used to like this stuff. But Voltron LD? Awesome!!!
I'm not from the 80s but everybody need to know that then there were a lot of smart guys compared to the another part of the population. But what about now? x/y (x over y) which part is x and which is y?
SPOILER: I think season 3, when it's made, will further explain the some holes we had in V80's. Although minor, they will explain how the costumes got switched. If Shiro continues to be MIA and VLD's Keith gets to Pilot Black Lion, he's going to retain his red costume, Lance moves up to Red and retains his Blue Costume. Princess Allura may then get to pilot Blue, making it the classic Line up. GENIUS! It's just a matter of how they're going to explain re-bonding with the Lions.
I'm already done with season 06 and I cant get enough.. I grew up watching the original Voltron and now this Voltron does it justice.. two thumbs up from me 👍👍
theres just something about 80s and 90s animation I like better than nowadays. Dont like the look of the voltron in the new one but maybe ill give it a chance
There's two more Easter eggs in the show. When Voltron entered the wormhole in season 3 they found another reality and they found Shiros double, Sphen. When Voltron beat Sendak they freed earth, when Pidge/Kaity was home she was watching the show about voltron, referring to the original Voltron.
I never saw "a person of color" with the princess. She's an alien chameleon, she can be any color she wants. I just saw a cool, wise, leader who is also like seven feet tall and busted a blast door bare handed. nothing wrong with a diverse cast, but I think there's already enough diversity in the human cast without trying to assign *human race* to an *alien*
Ya I agree with you there, but what I love to think is that Allura prefers her look to be as a "person of colour". Because perhaps that's what she perceives as being beautiful, she's chosen to look that way. Which I think sends an important message that any skin colour is beautiful. Breaking the stereotype of being white/tan is only beautiful. I think it would be amazing if that were the case because she is a very strong female lead without being a complete over the top feminist in the viewers' faces (same goes for Pidge with her short hair and tomboyish nature). It makes her very similar to Korra/Katara in a sense and that is one of the greatest things about this animation team.
Wow, deep... I never thought about it that way, honestly, I don't think I even noticed Allura's skin colour was 'that' way. I don't really care either way, she's awesome.
first off the Voltron toy line did not come out from inside a cereal box. those bad boys were first made of die cast metal and actually came together to make Voltron. it was one of the most badass toys of the era. anyone that had all five lions was considered popular on the playground. they were pricey yes. but well made. after that plastic was the norm. sadly. now we got reboots reboots reboots coming out of the ass crack of networks. total lack of imagination. In the new show, Hunk is portrayed as a somewhat cowardly chef type. whereas in the original series, he was the muscle and enjoyed a fight. though I do like what they did with Pidge. but please, do not tarnish the memories of those that were kids during the 80s, who enjoyed Voltron by saying they came from the bottom of a cereal box.
I got the plastic set (one lion at a time) over several birthdays and Christmases. My set was complete the Christmas of (I think) 1986. I actually liked the plastic ones better; they were easier to work with, and were both bigger and lighter. I still have mine along with all my He-Man figures, Gobots (Transformers were too expensive for my folks), and my Dynaman (it was awesome, still is).
If you watch the episode when Lance, Hunk and Pidge fail the simulator, the next students are Rick Hunter, Max Sterling and Miriya Parrino from Robotech are the next students to go into the simulator.
You forgot to mention "Voltron The Third Dimension" from the 1998 which was the series that continues from a long gap after "Voltron Defender of the Universe".
As soon as I watched this, I fell in love. I love the animation style, character design, and character personalities. And a quote to describe Pidge would definitely be though she be but little, she is fierce by William Shakespeare.
I don't think any of them can be classified as generic white. I like it. They're all American, but I blame the fact that America is full of itself right now, but none of them are white Americans. You've got the Japanese, the Italian, the Cuban, the Samoan, and, well Keith isn't even Human, so... Yup.
The original was edited because the original Japanese version was way too graphic for American audiences. It was called 百獣王ゴライオン Hundred Beast King Golion, the “Go” being wordplay for the Japanese word for “5” and the English word “Go.” It was really good too.
RJW27 I just got back from watching a few episodes of the original and wonder how some could honestly find it perfect, let alone better than the reboot. Nostalgia goggles at their finest.
I highly disagree... everything was way harder back then and more about animation than story but I think the studio mir and the writers really did a great balance of both
Umm to clarify your point on diversity. Allura chooses to be a "person of color" her species is of chameleon type. My theory is that she chooses that color due to the desert like planet they lived on at first and then stayed that form so that the crew members stay familiar with her appearance
Just because her species can shapeshift doesn't mean she doesn't have a default look. Shapeshifting seems to take effort for them to do it, so I doubt she's doing it 100% of the time. The show creators seem to like diversity, which is a good thing, that's why she's dark.
In season 7, when the MFE fighters are launching, they say things like “Dyno therms connected!” And “Megathrusters are go!”, the statements from the old Voltron when they were forming the big voltron
I like how there is character diversity. That Allura is a princess and damsel in distress but the pivot of the entire series and powerful and strong-willed to boot.
Overall, the new series is pretty fantastic in virtually all areas. My only gripe (which could be satisfied in Season 3, given the ending of Season 2) is that Allura should also be a Voltron paladin. And damn did Brooks do a sexy, impressive voice for Allura. 😥😅
I have been watching this on Netflix's. It does remined me of the old show. But with a lot more *(Action, & Bright Color). I really do hope they make more. Maybe they can also make, - *(Thundarr the Barbarian / Dungeons and Dragons / Silverhawks / Thundercats / & The Transformers). Nothing better than Playing Destiny 2 on one monitor. Hearing some music on the second monitor. Last but not least. Watching Voltron Defender of the Universe On the Big screen.. Have a Merry Tech Christmas..
What I like about the old is the character of Keith and the face, his eyes and voice his overall character being THE LEADER of the team. Also I love Princess Allura being one of the Pilots and Pidge being a GUY!

"Dramworks"
that was a great choice
Im glad that only the animation style of LoK remained and not the "lest make this ship canon because your characters were underdeveloped"
“masterpiece”.... hardly
I am a huge fan of the the Original Voltron, but have to say that the new series has been fantastic, the respect given to the original show has been outstanding, while giving a great back story for all the characters including the Lions, if you haven't seen this yet, then go give it a chance
Lance Fraizer yes sir
They need to do this to Exo Squad.
But they need a better music composer.
(because that seems very hard to do and almost all the animators that tried to do that failed) I love CGI but I definitely don't want 2D animation to disappear forever (then that means no more anime😣😢) so I like the animation as much as the deep storytelling.
honestly the rebooted heman and thundercats were good aswell
Color is back to not matching their lions again. :/
Guy from the Internet they are trying to stay true to the original golion.
Yeah. Unfortunately, that's how it was in the original. It drives me nuts. Though, that's probably because I grew up with Power Rangers.
And now we have a real explanation for it lol
Right, at least now there's a reason for it. It was infuriating before, because there was no reason for it at all. But I wonder why they don't just change suits in the new one. That might be weird, though.
Uzzy66 I think it's useful to remind us which lion they flew at the beginning, despite all the changes.
I grew up watching the old Voltron, and lets be honest, we were children, It was good, but it doesn't age well.
This version is superior in every way. It's great, and I think it will keep getting better and better.
Daggon 🍺 will drink to that! And I don't even drink! 😅
You must have been watching a completely different show.
Mike The Gamer What?
Agree and I grew up watching the original Voltron. I try to watch the original now and is like eargh...! 😖
Lance is confirmed Cuban and Hunk is confirmed Samoan, actually! :) Canon diversity, yay!
Is it just me or did that scene with Shiro arguing with Adam made it look like they were domestic partners? Could it be that...?
Cuba for the win boiiii
More like canon diversity that they dont shove down your throat the whole time, yay
@@heszedjim9699 but they dont? 🤔
@@elliottblair31 that's what I was saying.
The princess in the original series didn't command a lion...
...until Shiro died...
RUdigitized ...I was thinking that while I watched this video...but who knows the same thing might happen in this eventually
Just finished the series. Amazing.
RUdigitized that's what I was thinking. I hope they don't go that route with this one since they keep hinting at Keith controlling the Black Lion if anything ever happens to Shiro
Here's my guess: (Spoilers?)
Keith and Shiro talked 3x about Keith taking over as leader of Team V.
ALSO
Lotor was a badass in the original series.
My only criticism of the Netflix version is the lack of music. I miss the music soooo much!
Apparently they tried, but the rights to the music were tied up with another company. Which sucks, the original theme music would have made the new series perfect.
Big time. The opening sequence I understand has to be different or updated but I greatly miss that when watching the new one...and the music as you say
Please do you know where I can find the old songs??
That's the only reason I can't seem to finish the new series...

I love the take on VOLTRON THE TWIST HAVING ZARKKON BE A FORMER POLIT OF THE BLACK LION WOW AWESOME
And Keith being... what he is; (SPOILER FOR SEASON 2) Half-Galra.
And Haggar being what she is (btw, young Zarkon looks pretty good for an alien with rock colored skin)
My favourite easter egg is when they first launch the castle and they say:
"Activate interlock! Dynotherms connected! Infracells up! Mega thrusters are go!"
yea, because you won't hear it where it should actually be said or anything.
Actual Sven in Season 3 😂
My dad was a big Voltron fan back then and he started watching the new one with me(I haven't seen both new and old) and he had to inform me along the way, it's fun to see that even veteran fans would explain what's going on even though they don't know what's going on themselves.

Yᴇʟʟօա Pαlαdín yeah that series was plain garbage! just like (sigh) speed racer: the next generation which is even worse.

Speed Racer TNG remains one of those shows that's so obscure that I legit though I imagined it.
Lmao am I the only one who likes Voltron Force?
transboy_pidge no
The real reason this show is great is because it's essentially the same creative team behind The Legend of Korra, and it's the same animation Studio behind The Legend of Korra. They're the best in the business.

. . . we do not speak of the tragedy which befell "that" show lest the cartoon network executives try to push more toys on us.
What did you just find that out now? We know that and we loved it and it was more like 95%
But they never made an animated series of Eagle Force. I still wonder why.
Activate interlock! Dynotherms connected! Infracells up! Mega thrusters are go. Let's go Voltron Force!
And that’s on being a Voltron Force 2011 fan😌
Am i the only one who loved the 2010 versions as well
I came home from school one day in September of 1984 and sat down for afternoon cartoons.
Season 3 hype train!

Already????
Dunno if a third has been confirmed, but there were three significant words at the end of Season 2 that basically says "We can go for more". I guess it is a decision left up to Netflix at the moment.
Voltron was, hands down, my favorite childhood cartoon.
That being said, where is the music?? The most iconic part of the show was forming Voltron, and the theme should have been kept in my opinion.
Jason Headlee there were some copyright issues with the music, so they couldn't really use it for this reboot unfortunately. they would've, I'm sure, but :((
I miss the music 😢😢 can't find it anywhere online. Do you have any idea where I can find it?
nicely put together - form blazing sword!
In season 8 they showed a quick clip of the original show
Yup, when Pidge was watching the TV. I think the first episode?
Yeah, they also referenced it in the same episode when Pidge went around the mall giving signatures while "cosplaying" the original Pidge for free stuff
And at the end of season 8 you see a glimpse of Vehicle Voltron!
They also visit the alternate dimension and meet sven before he dies

Now that the new series is over, we can decide:
I say legendary defender
Force
VLD
VLD
Force for me too.
LEGENDARY DEFENDER FOREVER
Robotech reboot... now you just hit right on the money!! I second the notion!!
what is sjw?

A group of people from the very, very far left. They take their political stance to the extremes, and bash certain groups, such as white people and men, who were racist or sexist to other groups of people in the far past, while also glorifying other groups. They support taking away free speech, and have a hive mind sort of mindset. (earning their nickname, NPC.)
It's kinda hard to describe them, but picture a 4 year old baby whining about being misunderstood for being car gender or something, ranting on and on about people being racist to black people nowadays while that certain four year old also continues on to be racist to white people. That's the best comparison I can make.
@@oxfordcommaisthegreatest thank you
@@omarcrespo77 That's a legal snarl of an entirely different issue.
2:44 how can you /not/ love Pidge? Pidge is awesome!
I think it's because the original Pidge had a VERY weird, froggy voice and kid characters were often written badly in shows like this.
Ah. I meant the modern one at least. xD

Kimberly Brooks sound EXACTLY like the old Princess Allura voice actor, it's insane.
i am a 90s child and havent seen the original VOLTORN but when i got netflix i did watch some then and i never did finish it. then I found VOLTRON LEGENDARY DEFENDER and I fell in love with VOLTRON big fan of the reboot and i hope the movie dose well.
Seth Desalvo I kinda wish I never watched the original as a kid. Something's just don't wash out with soap 😅! Going back to some of those old shows, I'm just left with amazement of how I ever used to like this stuff. But Voltron LD? Awesome!!!

80s music still kicks the new stuff a$$
Yesssss it does and I am 13 I love 80s music
Exactly, specially during the lion formation of voltron.
GENIUS!
It's just a matter of how they're going to explain re-bonding with the Lions.
treeoflife wow, u were right on point

There's two more Easter eggs in the show. When Voltron entered the wormhole in season 3 they found another reality and they found Shiros double, Sphen. When Voltron beat Sendak they freed earth, when Pidge/Kaity was home she was watching the show about voltron, referring to the original Voltron.
It's just as good as it was back in the 80s, if not better! Plus Voltron will never die as long as we as people love watching it.
It brings a tear to my eye when Voltron forms the Blazing Sword.
Star Wars Force Awakens is not a reboot. It's a continuation of the original trilogy. Although it does take quite a bit from A New Hope.
it's considered a 'soft reboot'
live action adaptation is what we Voltron fans needed.
gotdamm, 80s voltron was and still is a huge ass meme. honestly, that whole show is one big shitpost of itself. 100000/10 recommend to watch
first off the Voltron toy line did not come out from inside a cereal box. those bad boys were first made of die cast metal and actually came together to make Voltron. it was one of the most badass toys of the era. anyone that had all five lions was considered popular on the playground. they were pricey yes. but well made. after that plastic was the norm. sadly.
now we got reboots reboots reboots coming out of the ass crack of networks. total lack of imagination.
RAPH FELIX yup I had all 5 and a bunch of G-1 transformers
The Die-Cast metal Voltron... man that was a dream come true!!
It was a 80s joke
If you watch the episode when Lance, Hunk and Pidge fail the simulator, the next students are Rick Hunter, Max Sterling and Miriya Parrino from Robotech are the next students to go into the simulator.

You forgot to mention "Voltron The Third Dimension" from the 1998 which was the series that continues from a long gap after "Voltron Defender of the Universe".
As soon as I watched this, I fell in love. I love the animation style, character design, and character personalities. And a quote to describe Pidge would definitely be though she be but little, she is fierce by William Shakespeare.
Fyi in the diversity section Lance is Cuban confirmed by the his very voice actor.
It's a cool little detail. Plus, Hunk is confirmed to be Samoan, and I think Pidge is Italian, if that makes any difference.
I don't think any of them can be classified as generic white. I like it. They're all American, but I blame the fact that America is full of itself right now, but none of them are white Americans. You've got the Japanese, the Italian, the Cuban, the Samoan, and, well Keith isn't even Human, so... Yup.
Keith's Dad was japanese-american as well!! Just judging from his last name, Kogane.
80's theme song was better. still gives me chills
I really do love the 80’s theme to Voltron over the one now! The 80’s theme sticks in my head a lot more than now.
The original was edited because the original Japanese version was way too graphic for American audiences.
It was called 百獣王ゴライオン
Hundred Beast King Golion, the “Go” being wordplay for the Japanese word for “5” and the English word “Go.” It was really good too.
I rather the old Voltron!! The original is always better, if not perfect.

I highly disagree... everything was way harder back then and more about animation than story but I think the studio mir and the writers really did a great balance of both
Eh not really. Pokemon Fire Red > Red in every single way.
I miss that classic transformation theme song, would be if they added it in some how
Voltron has all evolutions and I love them all.
In season 7, when the MFE fighters are launching, they say things like “Dyno therms connected!” And “Megathrusters are go!”, the statements from the old Voltron when they were forming the big voltron
Legendary Defender was decent. But it was just a "Re-Imagining" in the end. The Original is Still The Best. :)
80's Lion Force Voltron rules.
I never saw the original Voltron. I'd never even heard of it until the Netflix series.
I like how there is character diversity. That Allura is a princess and damsel in distress but the pivot of the entire series and powerful and strong-willed to boot.
I feel as it goes it hints even more to the original Voltron. Like how Keith does become the leader later.
Overall, the new series is pretty fantastic in virtually all areas. My only gripe (which could be satisfied in Season 3, given the ending of Season 2) is that Allura should also be a Voltron paladin. And damn did Brooks do a sexy, impressive voice for Allura. 😥😅
Mind-Forged Manacles I want Allura to be the black paladin so badly
Mind-Forged Manacles My only issue was the Pidge arc. They had ALL THAT BUILDUP... for basically nothing... WHY!?!?!?
Surprise, she ends up driving the Blue lion and the original piloting returns

I was with this up until the "live action film" part.
I just don't see that working as well as animated for a title like Voltron.
