...some folks prayed in reverence and some folks prayed in fear...
such a range of power and beauty in the images created.
    well done, Danny

Such a masterfully written song. Has such a poetic feel about it. I've been coming back to this song for years. It seems no matter how many times it slips my mind I never forget about it

When I first heard this song I thought to myself "Sounds good." and put it in my playlist and didn't really think much about it but then a couple of months later I decided to look the lyrics up and by god... I don't think I've read something more beautiful than these lyrics, this song represents a story with a deep meaning and when that last verse comes and ties it all together with the joy and pain of man is just... Can't even find words to explain it, just amazing.

Similar experience here. RUclips kept autoplaying it when I started from a certain song ... and then, gradually, I became more and more aware of the lyrics. Such a powerful, beautiful song.

I love your comment. It is a modern truth. And...a little bit of magical art. Tell all who will listen.

MLGMike well, I'm sorry you missed it first time 'round...but glad you found a way to reclaim that was handed to you when you were not prepared to receive it...💕

Hrhr...two years later, came back and wanted to comment the same thing for a second time. Still true and a song that sticks.

I saw Danny at a private house concert in Shelburne Falls, MA a couple of years ago. I requested this song and I thought it was the highlight of the concert to see it performed live. Danny's lyric writing is simply superb!

Sophomore year high school, a decades banned elective called "songwriting"was started up one enterprising sophomore English teacher. It was quite The eclectic group. Fine arts academy in Austin Texas, you had your hippies you had your hipsters you had your enterprising wiggers in pink polos, you had your ambitious Young singer-songwriters and rip roaring arrogant classic rock enthusiasts...
I can go in for days about the impact of this idiosyncratic curriculum. Moderated discussion daily after the song was presented by and every other week was mandatory presentation and performance of an original song based around a prompt. Discussions were intensely focused around strict objective reasoning and discussion.
... God I really could go on for days I'll get to the point.
Another incredible aspect of this class was the fact that mr.s reached out en masse to artists local and abroad, promoters and managers, professional wordsmiths from Nashville, recording artists answers who could be brought in to offer the best insight that they had and to field direct questions from a bunch of absolutely green, untested, totally ignorant high School kids. Notably I recall the owner of antones absolutely destroying each and every single one of us in the crustiest most jaded and absolutely matter of fact way.
... I keep losing focus. Danny Schmidt was one of the artists that he invited. he played this song. In a tiny little portable classroom on the edge of campus. His eyes were dark and kind, and he was sweet and firm. I believe that he had just finished his major war with significant cancer. I became of course a fan and attended as often as I could is performances at ut campus. I think he joined our class half a dozen times over the course of the year.
That was so very long ago. Go listen to his music, it speaks for itself. I guess I told what part of the story I wanted to. Comment sections are strange.
I love you all. Take care of yourselfs. If you have the chance, make music and reach out, and find the things inside you that are best.

A friend sent me the link to your Stained Glass, because I had revealed to him that I was a stained glass artist that had to sell all that was in my Studio. Listening to your Stained Glass, is pure profound poetry. Thank you. peace, Nancy

I see a lot of live music, and I'd say, over the past decade, this is the most powerful song I've heard performed live. Go see a Danny show. Or a Danny and Carrie show (his wife is remarkably talented as well). And if he chooses to play this song, you're fortunate and likely in for one of those rare moments that make us all return to live shows again and again.

I am so moved by this song, it is up there with the best. This is a much better version than the fancy one with all the echo chamber and you had to rush thru the end and drop some very moving lines, please promote this one because it is raw with feeling!!
