- Today, the detailing gurus discuss the popular topic of mobile detailing vs. shop detailing. Depending on the location of the business, the overhead of mobile detailing may be higher than you think! Weather, traffic, and the customer base have an effect on the business that could cost you time, which in short is money! A mobile detailing shop needs to have the proper supplies and tools to function on-the-go. Whereas a detailing shop can use electricity, running water, and gas when needed. However, we also talk about the cost of utilities as well as overall rent for the business!

I'm kinda curious how a mobile detailer has more over head than a fixed shop. More than likely a fixed shop has a mortgage or rent $1,000 or more. The detail shop in my town is owned by my brother and pays $2500 a month. A decent van can easily be paid for with cash. I just bought a nice 2007 Chevy express for $3000. Both have insurance costs, and a fixed shop will have more expensive property tax, Electric, Water, Trash disposal ect. Larry at AMMO NYC seems to detail year round in cold temps and he does quite well. Good video series btw have enjoyed alot of them.
@@theragcompany I would assume other details would include, vehicle insurance, excise tax, vehicle maintenance, travel time, the time it takes to pack and unpack your gear, "surprises/accidents", customers not being entirely up front about easy access to water or power, maybe the neighbors don't want a gas power washer running at 7am. So what I'm trying to say is, I'm guessing mobile detailing is more expensive because of all the known unknowns, right?
What's Levi's email? I was wondering if he had a vehicle inspection sheet that I could print off.
If a mobile guy has a larger overhead he needs to check his costs. Static operations have way more costs.
When having a shop, what type of insurance should you get?
SHOP TOUR LEVI!!!!!!
Its only a 2 bay shop, HAHA all we have to do is turn the camera to the left!
What would be the best option for a mobile detailer in the winter? Pick and choose day by day for when it's 'warm' enough to detail, but then you are letting customers down with pre-booked appointments. Or is it best to not detail at all through out the whole of the winter?
Depends on the area, and your customers. Obviously you cant always work outside, but sometimes you can work in a customers garage either heated or bring your own heat. We I have a heated shop so we can work 365 days a year. That is one of the detriments to Mobile in the cold areas.
Absolutely loving these informative videos, gives so much insight to those who want to start a business and those earlier episodes with TheJunkMan were great too for those weekend warriors or beginners. Y'all are great and I love the presence on /r/autodetailing y'all have as well, keep doing you.
when mobile detailing, does using a customers electricity reflect on the job price as opposed to a customer bringing their car to a fixed shop?
ken falasca when i stopped mobile detailing, i did not change pricing for that when i became a shop. same price, although price goes up yearly for me
Will be nice if you guys would make a video of the products that works the best in the Sun as far as compounds, polishes ,waxes, detailers, spray wax. Do you set up a canopy which can if you would be ideal if you do use one. I work pest control and I bought a old tank that we used to use for termites cleaned it out completely replace the hoses I hook up my little power washer to it. Its a 25 gallon tank works pretty good. But I've got them questions before and I don't know the answers to them about which products are the best in the Sun
I'm just a weekend hobbyist. My own car only. I have a DA polisher. Some griots products. And I try to wash polish wax my car. I know I make mistakes. Just learning. But also I disabled my wrists are inverted 90 degrees inward I have no thumbs and a very weak grip. I'm sure your techs would rip me apart if they graded my efforts. But I enjoy it. I feel like I am accomplishing something. And my cat does look n
Beeter than it did 3 months ago. Just thought it share a little about me. Thank you for great videos and microfiber towels. ...tom
Thanks for sharing
I guess you guys have more clients on winter because customers dont want to wash a car on cold climates, let a side light snow
Mobile detailing do Not have more cost than a shop .
Rent rates are also a major factor, especially in places like California.
Is there a way to get in touch with Mr. Lacroix? I'm located near him and would like to get in touch.
Thank you
