I used to ride the “street car” from Bethel Park to downtown, then transfer to the one that took me to Carnegie Museum back in the late 1950s to early 1960s! Fun memories!
Do you recall the cement street islands downtown that you'd wait on to catch street car? after seeing Santa @Kaufmans, I'd get splashed w/snow sludge standing on that island, longtime family holiday memory that even my GrKids know abt
That is the very streetcar that my dad operated many years ago! I love going there and sitting in "his" seat.....where he spent his workdays while dating my mother - long before I was a twinkle in his eye!

Who remembers and misses the amazing smell of the original Isaly's? It was so distinctive and memorable, and gone forever, unless I find it in heaven. Hope so, and the tahl (tile) floors, pickle barrels....nothing like it.
I LOVE the Heinz History Center. It's so interactive! The cow slide about the cafe at the entryway. The sports section is also super cool. Can't believe it's your first visit. I want my wedding there!

1:24 actually, the DeLorean Time Machine had to go 88MPH so it could travel through time. Just recently watched BTTF. Awesome video!!! I so want to visit Heinz History Center! I've passed it before, but I didn't have time to stop.
If you want to eat somewhere after the Heinz History Center, which I've been on a couple of field trips, go to Legends, which is across from Allegheny General Hospital. Great Food.

I saw Mister Rogers twice: once at Dick's Diner in Murrysville as a young lad and then years later when I was a student at Carnegie Mellon. He used to walk through the CMU campus to the WQED studios on Shadyside Ave. when the show was in production. By the way, I definitely remember an episode of Mister Rogers in which he made lunch in his kitchen. I think it was a PB&J sandwich. P.S. I had that Gary Anderson football card!
Another great place to visit and possibly shoot an episode (not exactly in the city) but Laurel Caverns I went there as a kid and have great memories of the trip yet another place would be Hershey Park that would be a great episode too

Pittsburgh Railways (Later PAT) had 666 of those PCC streetcars. Into the early 1960s they had lines into the North Side, West End, and out past Kennywood. I think street running in Dahntahn ceased in the summer of 1985 when the lines switched over to the subway. Mr. Roger's car was based on an old time "summer car".
I'm pretty sure Joe Bock did alot of the sets for Mr Rogers, Mr. Bock was the art director at channel 4, a very talented man. Mr. Rogers owl tree reminds me of the time Mr Bock decorated a whole studio back in the 60's for a party at channel 4 in all stalactites and stalagmites using the same concept, it was awesome!
we used to take the trolly from the south hills to downtawn. That is how we got to all of the 80's big hair band concerts at the civic arena. My kidneys would be sore after riding that thing
I ripped off a light bulb from a PCC (old school trolley)I think it was a 36 volt,IIRC AND popped in a "normal" light socket. It lasted 10 minutes!. OTOH I got one of my dad's spare head lights from his '58 Chevy. (It had a 4 light setup, i forget what was HIGH or LOW but whatEVER i had "worked') I plugged that sucker into a wall socket, an lemme tell yinz.......Ain't no cammer goona flash like THAT!!!
My family migrated to Tx after steel industry slump, but proud to say my kids on return visits spent time at Kennywood, rode Duquesne lift, etc & I became bootlegger of Iron City, Chipped Ham etc Can take girl out of Burgh but not the Burgh outta the girl

Ok it's not that I don't like the game reactions I love them but you guys know that if you ever get around to doing these episodes you talked about on here they would be huge hits your ideas were so great are they still being v considered can you give us an update
Guys this might be sacrilege. I don't know....help me here, are we crossing into the "time to draw the line zone" tell me were ok... Maybe a tiny little piece of the neighborhood without the characters we can have PD standing in line holding a flag because the trolley tracks are shut down in Pittsburgh dad is trying to keep back Henry after everybody else without might be good Im loosing up
Love hearing Dad talking in his natural voice. I rode the trolleys with my own dad when I was a kid - thanks for the flashback.

I was a kid downtown in the 70s and didn't get to ride them. They look great.
