@@drewyG59no way most is demolished now. I remember going the exact day the LA riots were going on. I’ve been wanting to go back inside but haven’t seen it in 2 years. Is it still accessible?
First off it’s not now, nor has it ever been, a mental hospital or a treatment facility for mental health treatment. The location started off as the Los Angeles County Poor Farm, then became a hospital for the treatment and rehabilitation of polio cases. Today it’s the abandoned part of the LA County Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Center and is actually world renowned for its ground breaking treatment and rehabilitation of paralysis cases. IT WAS NEVER A NUT FARM…EVER.
I was there in late ‘91 or ‘92 (can’t remember which year) as a second rehab after a 10/1988 accident left me paralyzed and lost my left arm at the shoulder. I wasn’t aware of the “poor house” pre 1950 but back when I was there, the hospital was on the North side of Imperial Highway with some low income patients living in buildings South of Imperial Highway. Also on the South side were office buildings, one did driving evaluations to spec out needed driving modifications. I think the legs/Marine training claim in 2006 is BS personally. Heck, most of these claims don’t sound right. We even had a wheelchair event (games-basket ball and quad hockey to make a few). The psychologist, was friends with Word Al. He was there for the event (nice guy). Other celebrities visited patients too. McLean Stevenson from MASH. I’m on the hunt for decent video from that time. If anyone knows links to videos from the late 80s, early 90s, please message me or reply. Thanks!
The abandoned Grafton State Hospital in Massachusetts was supposedly a medical treatment facility, too. They had hydroshock therapy tubs, and they were supposedly trying to use it, to cure Cancer. They didn't call them mental health facilities, that's just what they were.
My mother was in and out of that hospital for years in the 70s early 80s she passed away there in 81,She had lupus when they didn't know much about it. I get sad when I see this but i always wanted to go there before it closed.
I have lived in the area to this place since I was a kid, my dad worked there back in the days wheeling ppl around to their therapy appointments. I can’t help but to feel saddened as it gets demolished day by day.
went there around a year ago 2 days back to back, both times didnt go so well, first night got chased by security, second night, experienced paranormal activity and had us running from the building next to the old covid testing all the way to the football field next to it
The building in 0:21 is pretty terrifying when you go in at least where we went in, there’s a hallway that’s clear of debris… it looks untouched you can see all the rooms and bathrooms that once were occupied with patients, but passing that hallway… you pass thru some heavy wooden doors and it’s nothing but trashed patient files everywhere… it’s a room filled of papers and desk it’s pretty sketch at night… once you make your way around all that you hit a cafeteria area in this area we experienced cold air currents… there was a massive pentagram with candles on each point which was not a pleasant sight to see… across it there’s a hallway that leads to what appears to be medical rooms like lobby’s etc.. strange thing is that we saw KKK posters which was really random n then satanic symbols on the walls that ran down the entire hallway which we honestly didn’t further explore…. We experienced a few scares but nothing major… my ex recorded the entire walk through what was chilling was the things we caught on video we could here groans n voices that weren’t ours in the background… there’s definitely dark n heavy energy in that place
Awww there demolishing the buildings I went 4years ago it looked exactly like this very cool and different place ..... it felt like you where in a zombie apocalypse movie it’s a whole abandoned little town ima have to go back soon to see what’s left 💯
Mental hospital or not that looks like good property and a good foundation with good ceilings, a good place to start taking the homeless if they want to live on their own they can make this their own housing here and then afterwards the city can make the local city dump after they leave
That whole place is haunted. We knew people who used to go to visit family & the patients were scared to be alone in the rooms. I don't believe in hauntings but I've been around the Rancho Los Amigos side in the steam tunnels, basements and such(working there) and there are places that just have bad vibes. Even worse was Metropolitan State Hospital in Norwalk. Still operational but we were working in buildings that were empty at the time. More modern, not by much though. Think of a cross between hospital and prison. Everything was clinical but at the same time extra sturdy. Everything about the place wanted you to leave. Plus for some reason, there are no California basements that aren't creepy. We don't really have them here so the ones that we do have are just wrong from the get go.
