Bernadette, thank you for these tutorials. I am 66 years old and I have never played an instrument. But I made a promise to myself when I was in the 6th grade afyer hearing a girl in my class play Hang On Sloopy, that I would learn to play if ever i was able to purchase a ukulele before I die lol. I am one of those people that is a visual learner and have to be guided by the hand like a kindergartener. Your lessons are exactly what I need and the close ups of the placement of your fingers and how to press the strings properly are wonderful and I am able to fully understand what I need to do in order to get the beautiful sound. Thank you soooooo soooooo much form this senior citizen who has wanted to play most of my life. I feel I am making progress. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hi, My name is Karen and I"m 66 as well. I read your post and thought I'd see how the ukulele lessons are going. I started playing the piano four years ago when the pandemic first started. I love it, but I wanted to play another instrument that was more sociable ~ if that makes sense. I love learning, but my fingers are so sore! I'm sure that will get better. Anyway, I hope you're still enjoying the ukulele...
It's going well, but certainly not 8 lessons in 24 hours. I find it amazing that no one here has any problems or challenges with their lessons. I have worked so hard to learn and I'm posting this for all the people who have not had an easy breezy time of it. Keep at it all of you and God bless!
I had a LOT of trouble with the chromatic scale-took me about a week to get it right This comment made me feel a lot better about that, though; thank you so much 😊
Lots of people have problems 😃 That's just the way the world works...Bernie is the best...she is very helpful, so all ya have to do is keep working on it. Never stop.
The beautiful thing about Bernadette's videos is we can watch them as many times as we want and revise everything we don't get the first time. I have been learning for a few years but took the challenge because there are still basic things that I struggle with. The G chord took me forever.
RUclips should really show your video first when one searches for ukulele tutorial !!! You make it so much easier to learn, You are just PERFECT!!! Landed up here after months of searching for the proper tutorial, I'm super excited to master my uke!! Love from India
I just love the way you teach, why doesn’t RUclips show you as first search result to learn ukulele…….I was just badly strumming my uke without knowing the correct sound, till your videos started showing up….Just love ur pace perfect for absolute beginners with no history of music

You are awesome teacher. Thank you so much. I bought my wife a new ukulele.. and I downloaded all your videos for 30 days challenge and presented her.. she was aww struck.. I am so happy that it make her very happy. She is practicing with your guidance. Thanks. God bless you and your family. Keep up your good work. 😊
I love the pace you go at! If only I found you 2years ago, I wouldn’t have put down the ukulele back then. Thank you for making learning the ukulele so much fun and pacing it so well such that I do not have to rewind and could follow. It’s almost like you are looking right at me knowing when I made a mistake and when to repeat! 😍 thank you for understanding new learners so well!
Thank you for these EXCELLENT tutorials. I am over 60 and just got my first ukelele. I think this is a great activity for seniors. Music is medicine!!!
Your lessons are life changing. I often go thru these videos for areas I lack. I constantly reference Day 2 because sometimes I feel like I'm just not holding it right lol but practice makes perfect! Thank you for these challenge videos; they are really motivating :)
When I finally learnt how to play it at pace and sing along and strum, and could play along with you, I swear it was the most rewarding feeling ever! I love your video so so much
I am another senior citizen (78) who is so grateful to have found you, Bernadette, on RUclips. I am on Day 7 of the 30-day Challenge and loving it. EBA
My son gave me a Ukulele for my 89th birthday in September. I love your lessons and the way you go slow and repeat. It’s really helpful. I know all the chords thru Lesson 8 and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Mary Had a Little Lamb. It’s so much fun playing the songs. Now I’m going to work on Christmas songs with my chords I’ve learned.
I really appreciate your lessons! I carried around a guitar for years and could never quite bridge the gap between playing chords and strumming to make songs. I love to sing and really hope to be able to sing and play one day. I have a 16 month old daughter and would love for her to grow up with music as a part of her life. I am following the 30 day challenge, Thank you for all of the work you put into these videos!
Grate-Job, Working 81 year old trying to get song-memory under his belt. Trying your programs, if it works, I will be eternally grateful. Thanks for an opportunity to learn.
I think all the lessons up till now are really fun, but this one has been the most fun, since I can already notice myself gaining a tiny bit of skill. I only started playing yesterday (on my first instrument EVER) and I am already able to switch between these two cords, almost, effortlessly! Thats really impressive, all because of Bernadette's AMAZING teacher skills! :)
So I just started playing the ukulele about a month ago. I was looking for some RUclips tutorials to help me learn and happened upon the 30 day uku challenge. I Love It!!!!! I love the way you teach and how easy it is to follow along with! Since I found this string of videos I have been watching everything you have. You are now my go to resource for all thing uku. THANK YOU!!!!!
I've learned so much from you already, and it's only no.8 - as Dr. Seuss said "oh the places you can go". I feel so blessed to have these lessons from you and that you so willingly share your expertise and talent with us. Merci beaucoup! 🤗
@@steveharris2589 oh...you funny Steve! Still struggling to learn! I have to admit, I actually did a video of me playing Bruno Mars, "Think I Wanna Marry You". We practice and better ourselves. Never give up, eh Steve!

Same story here. About 20 years ago I was going to learn to play the guitar from a book....that didnt lead anywhere. Now I am learning to play the uke and this feels like the right way.
I love your tutorials!!! ❤️❤️ I wish I had these kinds of tutorials back when I owned a guitar. I just opened my package(a cute ukelele!) 4 hours ago and I feel like I know SO MUCH and that I can play a lot better than before! Love you!!!
I’ve tried to learn ukulele multiple times and it always felt like I was getting nowhere. This 30 day challenge is helping me so much, this is the first time where I actually feel like I’m making progress!
Press on, new ukers,...Now, after 16 months, my hard, sensitive or swollen finger tips became softer and far less sensitive. After playing for several hours or even a 20 minute lesson, I rub and massage hand balm on the tips. I LOVE MY UKE 💕🌷🎶🎶
Thankyou so very much Bernadette, I was trying so hard to learn on my wee Mahalo, but it was really hard (I am disabled so finding the right Ukulele was difficult) so I got myself the Enya KUTMA (tenor) and it's perfect 😊 I have been doing the daily challenge (up to day 8 now) and I am so happy to say it's going great! You truly are a Ukulele Sensei ❤ Thankyou ❤
I love these lessons! I have been practicing and getting better every day. I am having a much harder time with strumming than anticipated. It seems to sound much better when I use my thumb and not the index finger like taught. Anyone else?
I had to check the video of the day before going to bed! I don't wanna skip any day!!! I really love C7. I kinda noticed when learning Las Mañanitas and messing a little bit with the song, then I was like... "Hey, this sounds like a dominant chord, hmmm" Great video! Can't wait for tomorrow's one!
This is my second attempt at learning uke. So far I'm feeling good. Thanks for this. It's exactly what I needed. And your teaching style fits me very well. Just laminated the flash cards haha.
Two chords really opens up song repertoire! Other fave 2 chord songs: Hush Little Baby and A Ram Sam Sam. Another lovely and inviting video ~ and using the M6 an added bonus!!
You're such a great teacher, I'm learning so fast and much easier with your challenge! Can you recommend someone like you in piano lessons? I need challenge like this one :)
I'm so happy to find your playlist ^^ I started to learn Ukulele by myself but don't know where to start! Thank you so much ^^ I'll watch till the end of the list!
Eloursnz so happy you’re enjoying this challenge! It’s motivating me to keep going ❤️❤️❤️ I thought it would be cute to add and then I heard Terry from Uke Like The Pros has it too and I felt embarrassed that he might think I copied!
Loving the lessons so far, thank you so much! The thing I’m struggling with the most is the pain in my index finger, I guess because the strings are tighter on the first fret. I hope it toughens up soon!
Can't get the song out of my head, I played it so many times but that's a good thing because I can hear the chord changes. Can't wait for tomorrow challenge.
Only had the Uke for a few days but really like this course and a few others. But using this one as an anchor. I think slow and steady is the way. Another teacher suggests ten minutes max a day for chords as it does the fingers in. Other times I tune though the Uke seems to be holding its tuning better for now. And practise the c major scale. And when the kids want to pick it up to let them. A gentle sweet instrument. Worth the effort to practise. I think this site doesn't do so well on recommendations because it isn't updated regularly. But it takes things at such a slow pace it works for me. F to C7 chord change got to be one of the easiest to get. Still gives me trouble mind.
So great Bernadette! Love what you do for us, harvng a ball here in Amsterdam. Ukelele so populair now. Will also go to a live lessen from enthousiasts here. All good, keep going!,👂🏼❤️
It is great. But you must not forget that beginner’s fingers are very soft. They hurt quickly. So i would stay a few days on each of these single videos. I am on my second day on this same video 8, and today it finally makes sense. The first time there was too much to focus on. Now my fingers are more self-sufficient and i can focus on the rythme and singing etc.. i will train one more day on this beautiful first song tomorrow again, then try the next one ;-)
Ahhh I love this so much! Memorized it and I'm so glad I learned how to play this song! Haha no one ever taught me this in the beginning years of playing the violin!
I wish I could play the violin. My dog goes berserk if I try to practice the violin. For whatever reason, she can't stand it. (And I'm not that bad, even.) But she doesn't mind the Uke at all. I'm so happy I found an instrument that doesn't set her off. I hope you're still playing Uke. Good luck.
Love love! I just made the Chinese subtitle to this video and had it submitted to RUclips. :D Hopefully more ppl who want to start Ukulele can access to your # 30dayUkeChallenge video.
julia zhu WOW!!!! Julia!!! Thank you so much, that is sooooooo sweet and thoughtful of you to do. May I add your name to the description box? Something like this: Chinese subtitles by Julia Zhu
Thank you! I think it is still under the review process from YT. Once it got approved feel free to add my name. It would be a pleasure for me to be a part of this.
So I started this challenge a few days ago, on the day my ukelele arrived and I'm loving it. My fingertips are tender but I can tell they're toughening up however my left wrist aches. I hope this eases as my technique improves.
Just to add - I try to keep a dropped wrist when playing but the two finger cords that require me to claw my fingers and make my "mouse house" 😊 make me contort me wrist.
Thanks. I just started to learn the ukulele. I'm so glad I came across your channel. So very helpful...I'm about 10 days into the 30 day challenge, but still going back to review...
As a beginner, switching between cords seems to make some sound as well...unless I am very careful...but I shouldn't be worried about that too much at this stage...just do it.
Hi, Miss B ~~ Am QUICKLY running through these first 15 days on new SOPRANO ukulele because going from 30" baritone ukulele with capo to an actual 20" soprano is QUITE the physical adjustment and change for an intermediate newbie...🙃 but i'm having so much fun... 🤩 I videoed my first "cover" playing "Mary..." on soprano but have no idea what to do with it or where... so we'll move onto Lesson 9 with soprano...
Hi, I just bought muy first okulele and I been looking on line for awhile and I have to say you are a great teacher. I really enjoy your Chanel. You don’t rush, and you take your time to explain things. Please keep making videos. One question the tip of my finger that press the finger board really hurts is that normal?. Or my cords are to high?

Mary had a little lamb
It's fleece was white as snow, yeah
Everywhere the child went
The lamb, the lamb was sure to go, yeah
He followed her to school one day
And broke the teacher's rule
And what a time did they have
That day at school
Tisket, tasket, baby alright
A green and yellow basket, now
I wrote a letter to my baby
And on my way I passed it, now
Hit it
Second para is actually:
It followed her to school one day,
Which was against the rule.
It made the children laugh and play
To see a lamb at school

Sore fingers is my biggest problem. I’m loving the children’s songs because I want to play for my granddaughter.

Good luck.

Chinese subtitles by Julia Zhu
Thank you! I think it is still under the review process from YT. Once it got approved feel free to add my name. It would be a pleasure for me to be a part of this.
Oh yay!!! Let's give it a few days and follow up on this 😉
Wow a song to memorize for the assignment today. ❤
Camille Ramos yes!! The first song to memorize!!!
Thanks Ms. B 😍
Thankyou teacher 🙏🙏❤️
Wow, This is helping me so much, thank you!
Oh wow this is one of the songs I've always thought about learning but never did😂 Guess I'll do it now!
No excuses now!! ;)
1 minute in and my fingers heart like crazy
Thanks. I just started to learn the ukulele. I'm so glad I came across your channel. So very helpful...I'm about 10 days into the 30 day challenge, but still going back to review...
can`t wait to play over the rainbow
Thank you!
Here we are and working on this song...
