As an owner of many tube amps and no local amp repair tech, I bought this tool to help me maintain my tube amps. I am not an electronics engineer and needed a good tool.
Man I was really hoping the update would expand to more pro audio tube types. I love the MkI, use it all the time for ECCs and such, but it only can test half the tubes I encounter in preamps and compressors. Im sure the market is much more limited, but would pay 3x the price of the one I have for something so simple, but with more tubes programmed into the CPU.
Overall a cool device. Cannot comment on price but I am sure that for the correct use case it is actually great value and offers testing simplicity. As an entusiast thinkerer I however have some doubts for more advanced use cases... I have read the manual and the matching process is described in generic words that do not tell you how the device really matches the tubes other that saying that the "correct tests for the application" are performed (more of a thrust me bro we know what we are doing). However for me it would have been better for me if it mentioned the matching parameters (e.g. Mu/Rp for signal triodes, Gm for pentodes and Emission/Gm for pentodes to be ued in class A/B amps). Yes these are more advanced parameters but rather important ones for matching purpouses. I have owned a Utracer 3+ for a while and whilst is not a beginner tester but is a really powerful tester for a low price (self assembly required). Finally another limitation of this tester as far as I can see is that it only allows testing of specific tubes excluding russian NOS tubes that are really nice sounding, cheap and plentiful.
Thank you for your feedback. That is a good point. I did have some matched valves in stock, which I put to the test, and the Orange tester confirmed the matching, so I feel confident that the matching prowess is good. I shall pass your comments over to the Orange people.

How is it? I’m currently in the market.

this one bit pretty much sums up why i am reluctant to purchase the tester.
similar tools are same price or higher so not really overpriced.
Have you tested any 12AY7 tubes? What setting did you use? Thank you.
You can't currently test 12AY7 tubes, there may be an expansion module coming in the future for this variation.
@@hificollective. What’s different about
the AY than the other preamp toobes?
