Beautifully done. Many of the guys I know who are in their 70s and still practicing karate 40 or more years since they began credit it to Sanchin. Uechi ryu version of Sanchin is closer to the Fujian White Crane form, Sumchien, which is the root of this kata. Goju ryu karate and styles derived from it like kyokushin perform it differently. White crane is faster and softer in terms of arm tension. However you perform this kata, it is a wonderful form of hard chi gung that will bring you many benefits! That you for sharing Master's practice.
I had the opportunity to train with sensei. He was intense and an awesome man. I will forever remember what he said to me. Watching me with hard intensity.
@@m.b.593 Far from that, just stating that while it's great for him to be this shredded at such a fragile age, it's definitely not "for any age". Any teen brat can stop eating for a while and get this cut, cuz that's just leanness.
+Joao Gabriel No, not at all. As Jonathan Miller above stated, Uechi-Ryu is the most Chinese of all (Okinawan/Japanese) Karate. This kata, which they call Sanchin, is clearly an Okinawan adaptation of a basic Chinese taolu (form). What makes it funny, is that they do this form with complete tension. Watching someone purposefully instill this kind tension in him/herself is hilarious, because of the unnatural, robotic movements and strained facial expressions. It is also funny, because Chinese stylists understand such tension will ruin a martial artist's attempts at fluid, relaxed motion. Even our "hard" forms are softer than this "soft" form! Watching this form is like watching someone with tetanus try to perform Kung Fu. If he wold just relax (except at the moment in which the techniques are supposed to hit their targets), he would find himself moving much more freely. His blood pressure would also return to a safe level. I really don't mean to be disrespectful (I know he is a great master), but it is funny (from the perspective of a Chinese stylist) to see someone do a Kung Fu form as though he is stuck in wet concrete.
+João Gabriel You must understand, I am heavily biased towards Chinese martial arts. Shotokan is too stiff and rigid for me. I sure respect the toughness of Kyokushin fighters, but they lack strategy and technique. They are just tough pieces of meat, kind of like how Rocky Marciano was to boxing. They destroy their own bodies. I will take Chinese Boxing any day of the week over Karate. Nothing personal, just my preference.
Yes but Master Bruce Lee did not believe in Kata (forms). He called it the classical mess. Anyway, Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do is a different art entirely. 🙏
I've heard that Tatsuo Shimabuku creator of Isshin Ryu considered Sanchin Kata the Pearl of Okinawan Martial Arts and Sanchin Kata the heart of Isshin Ryu?
It may be so since it is present in many ryus. Sanchin kata, although performed with closed fists, is also one of the core kata in Goju ryu, it symbolizes the hard (Go) part of the system. The other core kata is Tensho, and represents the soft (Ju) part of this ryu.
When done solo, it's an exercise in practicing breathing techniques combined with controlled tension of a LOT of muscles at once, the point being to be able to be able to hold your ground better at close range fighting. When done with a partner, it can be used to get the body conditioned to withstand blows to different areas so that when you -do- get hit, you're more mentally set to not get distracted by it. Movement in this stance dictates keeping feet on the ground almost at all times.
It is Sanchin No Kata. Used to learn proper breathing in the Uechi Ryu system, learn to contact and tighten the muscles to maximize power and resist blows to the body. See how the master in the video (Gushi Shinyu) pulls down his shoulders, contracts his lats when striking.. In an advanced stage, the Sensei will hit you during Sanchin to see if you’ve properly tighten the muscles and test your conditioning. Since people often flinch when punches start flying at them, this also helps with getting use it and tightening up your body when hit. You also learn to ground yourself and create strong rooting legs. Since this style is used for close ranged fighting, Sanchin is crucial.

It is not at all Chinese, but rather a cross between Kung-fu and karate. It's actually Okinawan. I'm a brown belt in this style.
You so silly, LOL
This what the Chinese would call Hard Qi Gong
Very fast, stress and strong ! Like a tiger
Not stressing , but tense
