I'm a Marine, I go through alot of shit everyday. I used to be a guitar player long before I joined and whenever I need a release I just listen to this music and it brings me right back home.
Man people stop arguing about Hendrix and Mayer. Simply, Hendrix was from the 60's no other guitarist like himself! And for John, there is no other guitarist in his style. So we can just simply assume that neither one can be compared to each other. Different times, different people and different genres. Enjoy the music :)
Best version of Wheel ever. What a good mood (it's not only the guitar solo, but all the song, and the band playing really quiet and relaxed) beautifull. And the drum fill it's absolutily amazing too! it fits so well. John is a great composer, and lyricist. It's a shame that sometimes e speakes more than he should, but fuck that . I love his music!
and some people insist to say that he's just a pop show man. absolutely amazing...got soul, got love, got talent. To anybody that plays and to the ones that feel the music at it really is must recognize the talent that he is nowadays in the world of music.
Beautiful song . John’s voice sounds real , instrumentals flow together like a small rippling creek deep in the forest 🌳 Sharing in the Wheel of life is a sacred gift.
This is my favorite version of Wheel I’ve heard throughout a long time, however the version let alone performed that evening at the venue (w/ classic Mayer “re-touching” due to being performed earlier) is absolutely exceptional. Awesome
it looks like an Am pentatonic for the first part then hops up to the next octave then uses the Dm pentatonic after that which amazes me that the Dm worked so well there
it's a sound check/private concert before the actual show, it was 4pm in the afternoon and the actual concert didn't start till 7pm technically 9pm after Brett and Colbie.
That's his SRV strat (the one witht the the special pickups that because the base for his pickups in his sig. model) that was his main axe back from 96-97 through the heavier things album. I just haven't seen him pull it out in a very long time.
John Mayer can outplay Hendrix by a mile. If we're talking impact, then Hendrix has obviously had a larger impact on music and guitar. But since he's talking pure guitar skills, then it goes to Mayer.
you are correct, you did forget to mention the signature on the front of the headstock instead back, as where johns is on the back and stevies was on the front.
Look at the bridge. It has the left handed bridge, that's a SRV model. The JM signature has a standard right hand bridge. The texas specials in it had a weak winding in it and that gave it the unique sound.. which was the base for his JM pickups.
@diogo1eli....ive been deliberating on doing so as well after watching this performance...goodlord this man has talent and his band compliment him so well
great performance yet its missing the core part of the song!!! well, the part i love at least. and if you never stop when you wave goodbye you just might find if you give it time you will wave hello again... you just might wave hello again
very pentatonic, 5 positions (CAGED). Rhythmically its swung, with "jazz" phrasing on how he accents a note then plays one quieter to make each phrase swing. Lots of call and response. Those D shape triads move in parallel. Sometimes does semiquaver triplets filling in the middle of the swung feel. He lays on the back of the beat Later on in the solo, he starts comping using the F lydian mode (you could think of it as D dorian TBH). If your unsure of what that is, theres your homework project.
@annievolleyball333 Im with you annie all the way. Im 23 and just learning how to play. My father has played all his life and unfortunately it was just now that the musical DNA part lit up in me. If you need any critique or just another person to share music with im here. Tkae care and best of luck with learning how to play.

Thank you for your service. Hope things are well. I think we all feel the same way when you say that.

Preach
i like the way he performs every song differently in every concert
I cite this as the song that ended John Mayer the pop star and began John Mayer the artist. First time we saw that untouchable tone
Yea that was the first guitar he bought when he was young. He worked at a gas station all summer to buy it its cool that he still plays it .
That solo though
Best version of Wheel ever. What a good mood (it's not only the guitar solo, but all the song, and the band playing really quiet and relaxed) beautifull. And the drum fill it's absolutily amazing too! it fits so well.
John is a great composer, and lyricist. It's a shame that sometimes e speakes more than he should, but fuck that . I love his music!
This song grips me, favorite musician.
one of his best songs lyrics-wise.
and some people insist to say that he's just a pop show man.
absolutely amazing...got soul, got love, got talent.
To anybody that plays and to the ones that feel the music at it really is must recognize the talent that he is nowadays in the world of music.
he jammed out hard on this. Almost a foreshadow to his Dead & Co style improv.
Good ear!
He looks so good and the performance was great. For those who weren't John Mayer fans in the crowd were LUCKY.
The image quality is bad, but thank god for the awesome audio quality of this AMAZING JM performance. What a playing, what a TONE, I love it!
Beautiful song . John’s voice sounds real , instrumentals flow together like a small rippling creek deep in the forest 🌳 Sharing in the Wheel of life is a sacred gift.

Best Live Video Of John Mayer Ive seen!
4:16 is such classic John Mayer. Love the guitar solo.
This is my favorite version of Wheel I’ve heard throughout a long time, however the version let alone performed that evening at the venue (w/ classic Mayer “re-touching” due to being performed earlier) is absolutely exceptional. Awesome
If i would have an euro for every pixel in this video, i would have 8 euros
Reauman Chef 240*
Times have changed and so has Johnny boy. Nice video mate.
this is called perfection..a genius
it looks like an Am pentatonic for the first part then hops up to the next octave then uses the Dm pentatonic after that which amazes me that the Dm worked so well there
I always enjoy this song. Great version!
Best Mayer solo I've ever heard.
Flawless!
WOW! HE IS AMAZING, ALWAYS WAS. gotta love him xx :)
those who are present and those who are not, you have wonderful taste
This is called "Wheel" - from "Heavier Things"
The best version! 10 years listening and watching this video! Amazing!
That was soo fun.
I loved that concert.
He is and always will be THE SHIT!!!!
it's a sound check/private concert before the actual show, it was 4pm in the afternoon and the actual concert didn't start till 7pm technically 9pm after Brett and Colbie.
the way he played wheel live during 2008 is the best
One of my favority YT shares of Mayer evah! Thank you!
That's his SRV strat (the one witht the the special pickups that because the base for his pickups in his sig. model) that was his main axe back from 96-97 through the heavier things album. I just haven't seen him pull it out in a very long time.

Wow thank you for sharing this! It’s amazing!!! John and all of his band are amazing!!! Perfect!!! Just Beautiful!!!❤
dang thats good. im just now starting to really get into heavier things and realizing how much you can do as far as jamming these songs.
A d o r e A d o r e JOHN
Too mutch perfection.
very tasteful solo
i still hoping you will have concert here in the philippines
John mayer es simplemente Increible..
John Mayer is my kinda man
it was sound check. local-83 got to go to them. :)
Thank you so much for posting this!!
God, that solo gets chilling around 4:58. I'm sure I'll never find a song I love this much. Amazing.
what an awesome solo johnny... best version of yours i heard thus far
My favorite song on Heavier Things!
Was it when they formed the trio that Steve became John’s full time drummer for the majority of Johns earlier years in his career?
Yuppers
i wish fender guitars came with a box of talent
6:33 is very cool and relaxing :)

@diogo1eli....ive been deliberating on doing so as well after watching this performance...goodlord this man has talent and his band compliment him so well
There are some tunes you have to respect the quiet, this being one of them.
Lindo maravilhoso gostozo demais !!!!!!!!!!!!!
there's only a performance better than that, at least that i've ever heard
good luck acomplishing that !!! i want to learn too
yeah I haven't really seen this one either, but he has roughly 200 or so guitars and I can only recognize at max maybe 10 of them...
@SEV5472 yeah.. thanks.. remembered it a few hours later.. :/
That's actually his signature strat I think. That strat has the Big Dipper pickups if I recall and the SRV one has the Texas Specials.
wow, I didn't notice that the first time! good eye tarmactrr!! =)
doesnt he always have a katana on? BUT he has like 2 in them in the rack so POSSIBLY and he has a linebooster next to his midi board
I love this song ♥ love him too...shhhh ; )
6:35-6:42 is no doubt Tears for Fears "this is my . . . four leaf clover/ nah, nah, nah, nah, nah"
Agreed with the drumming. No need to be super fast with ultra complex stuff... this is a good musician is.
its not..that srv sig is the first guitar he bought himself
A minor pentatonic has a shape on the Dm pentatonic!
When he says "real quiet"in 6:14 he looks soooooooooooooooooooo yummy !!!!
When he begins he sounds very similar to Bill Frisell!
great performance yet its missing the core part of the song!!! well, the part i love at least.
and if you never stop when you wave goodbye you just might find if you give it time you will wave hello again... you just might wave hello again

Bro, this video was uploaded in 2008.
Thanks :) What can I say... I"m a guitar nut LOL
Wow wheel....... Wow

@annievolleyball333 Im with you annie all the way. Im 23 and just learning how to play. My father has played all his life and unfortunately it was just now that the musical DNA part lit up in me. john mayer strat
@anthony7563 It was a sound check!
@ashoka4327 ...you witnessed a rare performance.
if anything... this tone is juicy
is it me, or is John's singing getting worse and his guitar playing getting better??
I love JM
@jpo8423
haha how true
looks good with short hair and sunglasses.
i like the one at 4:50
