Hello ! Matt, you are a good GM. Nice voice sound effects. But just a few things about the rules : - Piloting rolls applie only when there is danger or a real difficulty to drive the vehicle. - Acid splash adds as many dices as the damage received by the xenomorph. So it's an attack with more than 8 damage dices. - Medical aid (and medkits) can be used only on someone who is broken or with a critical injury. Otherwise, the only way to regain health is some peaceful rest. - Critical injury #62 requires two successful Medical aid rolls, the first to heal the wound, the second to avoid death, with a -2 malus. Keep on gaming !
Thanks to all who watched this EPIC Act 1 live and who watch on RUclips! For you rules afficionados, we played mostly by the book, but use a couple "homebrew" rules (mainly Death Rolls which you can't do in Roll20 without rolling stress dice) so don't @ me ;D
Are you using homebrew rules for armor versus attack damage? If so, it seems to be a bit unbalanced, especially when a single successful armor roll can completely mitigate a successful hit from a 9-damage weapon (that Xenomorph should have taken 7 damage from the grenade, plus 1 for being the target). I don't want to sound rude or anything, I just wanted to make the suggestion as it might help these scenarios go more smoothly.
@@RepKyle95 Thanks! We've been reading the rule for armor wrong and look to improve it in the next Act of the playthrough! Also note that grenade launchers do Blast Power 9 damage (and 1 for the target automatically) - the output says "Damage 9" by mistake - it should read "Blast 9". It simply means that in the case of the 1st grenade strike from Zmijewski, the alien would have taken 2 damage after the 2 armor mitigation to the damage rolled (Sarah rolled 2 successes). Silva's subsequent grenade shot was 1 success, and the alien rolled 2 successes on its armor for a total of 2 damage mitigated.
Slices'N'Dices is by far the best run scenarios and RP I have seen for the Alien RP so far. Currently planning on running Chariots, then DoW myself for a few groups.
We ran the station Sunday night. Fucking drone one-shotted Hammer. Bit a hole through his face, scrambled into the foyer, threw itself against the glass front doors a few rounds, took several bullet hits, 4 points of damage but not enough to kill it, and eventually smashed through and escaped. Brutal game, jeez.
Fantastic use of sound effects and player engagement! I'm currently running the same adventure with my group but made some sweeping changes. I let my Players make their own characters but kept most of the pregens as helpful NPCs. I also decided to throw them into a prequel adventure where they are working with what would later become the traitor NPCs on a mission. Clean out a nest of hostile alien fauna (giant bugs) and investigate a mole in the base that's been informing the rebels of patrol routes for easy ambushes. Get them attached and offer more of a reason to care about Wojchek, Wright, Reese, and Carvalho. Unfortunately the result is what should be a 3 session game into a 6 session mini campaign.
I've only just come across your video here, but it's great! I'm currently writing my own (kind of) sequel to Hope's Last Day, with "HS" serving as the big bad Company Man two years later (he was the only survivor, having left the other 3 behind as he escaped on the Shuttle alone) on a Weyland-Yutani owned Flora Scientific Research Vessel named the USMR Archimedes. I'm currently working on a nightclub fight scene, haha. I've subbed and look forward to watching future videos of yours! Much love from the UK.
And they forgotted use those extra succes in combat for stunts and extra damage all the time. They also played wrong many times, when damage was aplied to enemy.
I love your narrative and the sound effects are really cool! I wonder about the acid damage though to the structures and flooring? Seems like some of them flooring should have given way from all the acid, dropping everybody down to the next floor below and I thought acid damage was supposed to continue for another turn afterwards or round? I really ignored most of it, with all the fun we were having. Can't wait for the next one!
One of the reasons I can't be bothered to watch Critical Role is because every episode is three hours long. But you folks make this gripping and suspenseful enough that I can watch five hours of it. Only past the first hour so far, but I have to say my favorite is Big Z and her entertainingly rendered Brooklyn accent. Makes for a perfect hard boiled military character who's done too much and seen too much. The rest of the crew pulls off a very believable squad of burnt out grunts as well.
I always love the inevitable sit around with RP exposition while folks are in shock and missing limbs hahaha! Such a great episode! Talk about meat-grinder! Loved it!
Loving the run so far, just a FYI those explosions with a strength higher than 7, hit the adjacent zones with a -7 modifier or something. Nothing that a bit of armour shouldn't handle but still not risk free.
You did that wrong, Matt. Injury 54 is fatal, but only after one shift. One shift is 8 hours. Mason will not die unless 8 hours go by without medical attention.
Thanks for your input! Please note that this was over two years ago and we’ve learned a lot about how the game works by now! That aside, hope you enjoyed the play through!

This was an excellent Actual Play. I don't usually like to watch them, but the cast is great here & the presentation is wonderful. Would you consider doing a whole video on how you've set everything up within Roll20 for this high quality Alien experience?
Great product review :P Watched as I've got the corebook but wasn't sure about DoW as not a fan of all the prequel additions to the setting, but this puts this in a good light!
Matt -- do you have some tips on how to get the sound effects when people use the weapons working? That's scripting, right, via Roll20 Audio Master? So do you have separate macros for the different weapons, or can this somehow be integrated dynamically ("If weapon=pulse_rifle, play pulse_rifle_audio"), etc. I'd love to implement something like this in my sessions. Fantastic game-mothering by the way. Really tight, great atmosphere, and just the right mix of being positive and generous when the players try something, but also pulling no punches when something bad happens to them.
Yes indeed! We use Roll20AM and use separate macros for each sound placed within the weapon text section for each weapon so that it plays upon character or NPC attack! Then I use a macro as a token action so that the PCs can attack or check their stunts without even having to open their character sheet! Thank you so much for watching!
If by media, you mean content sharing, we use a combination of Zoom for video, Discord for audio, and Roll20 for the game itself! Hope you like what you watched!
"Ima, guna go outside and see where those fucks went" shes back at it again with some top role play. I watch Sarah just for her golden content. 10/10 (James as hammer was great) nice job everyone. #mattbuildingbetterworlds
Hi Xoriel! We obtained most of the sound effects by looking online! It's amazing what you can find with a day and half of google searching for mp3s! Also, the Alienrpg subreddit is a great place to ask around! The music is mostly copyright from the Alien movies (which we used with permission) and used sparingly. Join us on our discord at discord.gg/bEneV9 and we can help you out making your own games!
Hey! This is awesome. My guys are going to the Marshalls Sunday night. But how are you doing the drone stat block and having all of its different attacks roll up so easily in the roll20 chat box?
Great question! I added the drone's attacks to a Drone character sheet just as you'd do for the Roll20 character sheets for the PCs. Then, add the dice for each attack as the bonus (since they only roll base dice for their attacks and are not attached to ranged or melee attributes). Thanks for asking and watching our little Alien RPG miniseries!
Hi Daniel! I'd recommend that you try out StartPlaying.games! They are a great place to find games that need players! Many games are free and are great for beginners! Best of luck!
Also, which API are you using for initiative, is it Group Init? It looks great, but I don't know how you set it up for ALIEN rpg. I think Roll20 is pretty badass, but the quirky system to access all of the best attributes is a pain in the butt.
We're not using an API for initiative, just the Initiative Tracker and the character sheets for the PCs (they have a Initiative button) and also the Initiative Macro can used from the Macro bar for all NPCs/enemiers.
Fantastic game! Love all the sounds you've thrown in.. however I gotta say, the guy playing chaplain is driving me nuts, lol he should be playing the dumbest marine in the squad
Hey there, first of all: thanks for that amazing play. i am going to play destroyer of worlds soon and you give me a lot of inspiration :)! one question: is there any chance that youll do a tutorial for roll20? i bought it at the marketplace and found out that there are no tokens (someone else complained about that in the forums too). so i would be a great service for many of us to see how you managed the roll20 work you did :).
Hey there @megamegafalloutboy! We dont usually do roll20 tutorials as there are so many great Roll20 videos on RUclips. All we can say is that we're Pro users of the system, and the APIs help a LOT! We made our own tokens with the use of some we found on the AlienRPG subreddit (check them out!) but you can join our Discord and we'd be glad to help out in any way!
I know I'm late to the party, great video. I love it. Is the turn order chat, where it sits whoops turn it is, part of the roll20 chat, and was it custom? I'd love to incorporate something like that in my own roll20 games.
I just have to ask. I have been trolling the past few weeks trying to find good sound clips for all the weapons and things you had and played over the course of the session. Where did you find and collect all these pieces from, or is that a trade secret at this point? xD
Excuse me, but I don't find the option to send you a dm. Could you tell me where to get the sound you played when Wojcik transforms? It's absolutely perfect! Congratulations to all!
Yes! in Roll20 we have access to a site called BattleBards, and one of the selections is called "Woman Brutally Transforms To Werewolf ETPA" - that's what we used!
Hi again :) I have gathered some friends to do our very first Alien session, Chariot of the Gods. We will have our first session on Friday through Roll20. I’m very impressed by the sound effects you use and I wonder if you could assist me in getting the various Alien background music? I have searched but I cannot find any source to get it from. That's a great idea! Thank you so much!
This was great.
Thank you so much!
Will there be any more videos? :)
Cenedir indeed there will! Act 2 streaming live on Twitch.tv/slicesndices October 16th! And on our YT channel shortly after!
@@SlicesnDices Nice. Read the scenario myself two days ago. Seems pretty awesome!
3 + 2 + 1 massive clue vibes
Do you have a folder with all the audio files in at all?
This was an excellent Actual Play. I don't usually like to watch them, but the cast is great here & the presentation is wonderful. Would you consider doing a whole video on how you've set everything up within Roll20 for this high quality Alien experience?
Certainly! I'll give it some thought in the new year on how best to send that out! And thank you for watching!!!
@@SlicesnDices Thanks brother. You earned a new sub; looking forward to more Alien (and any other) content coming.
A link to that sound effect for the transformation into a body burster?
Comes with Roll20 audio library - BattleBards - "Werewolf - Woman Brutally Transforms to Werewolf
Andreas Voukrou"
@@SlicesnDices thank you!
You are great. Where you get these great sounds from?
Great product review :P Watched as I've got the corebook but wasn't sure about DoW as not a fan of all the prequel additions to the setting, but this puts this in a good light!
Glad we could sway you!
@@SlicesnDices Fantastic -- thanks so much for the reply! And now I'm off to watching the end of act III.
Amazing stuff!
Thanks!
Hey what was the source of the awesome sound effects for the transformation late in the Act? I’ll be running this scene soon and would love to use it.
We got it off BattleBards - "Werewolf - Woman Brutally Transforms to Werewolf
Andreas Voukrou"
@@SlicesnDices Thanks!
What social media program are you using to play like this? It seems very useful!
"its not ridiculous, its standard issue"
"You are an aliens..."
I would have been more amused if he had said, "You are a Cylon!"
This is a very well run game! I need to politely ask you where you acquired the sound effects and music as I’m hoping to run an Alien RPG game soon. 🙂
Slices & Dices thanks! Can you please resend that invitation as it appears the one above has expired? 😊

Where did you get the female transformation sound effects?! I wanna use them for this same scenario! Lol
Many have asked this question! Its available on BattleBards - "Werewolf - Woman Brutally Transforms to Werewolf
Andreas Voukrou"
I would love to try rpg but my friends aren’t interested is the any free place where I can almost all discords I try are always empty
How does one sign up for an aliens: rpg sessions to play?
Our current RPG sessions aren't open to the public, unfortunately, but you can certainly join our Discord and chat with our crew! Thanks for watching!
Fantastic game! Love all the sounds you've thrown in.. however I gotta say, the guy playing chaplain is driving me nuts, lol he should be playing the dumbest marine in the squad
Matt G has the exact same voice as Tom Cruise.
Show Me The Money!
Hey there! It’s actually an API called Turn tracker which you can add to your Roll20 game if you have a pro account!
@@SlicesnDices thank you.
Hammer should of told the Xeno "Cant touch this"
I love that the video end with her saying "They did wha-..."
I just have to ask. I have been trolling the past few weeks trying to find good sound clips for all the weapons and things you had and played over the course of the session. Where did you find and collect all these pieces from, or is that a trade secret at this point? xD
No secret -- we got them from lots of different places, mostly from the AlienRPG subreddit! Give it a shot! The tough part was the organization!
Iona, there seems to be a malfunction with your comms.
@@SlicesnDices thank you so much! 😀
Hello ! Could you enable subtitles, please ?
Hi Nicolas! We're working on it! Thanks for your patience!
Where did you get the character art from??
Character art came from the PDF as distributed digitally.
Never mind. Just got told that it's part of the adventure module. Do you have a fanart page??
@@andreaso8886 we don’t but if you want to send fanart to us we’ll be more than happy to showcase it on our social media!
Silva dying was the best thing that could have happened to them
Edit: DAMMIT!!!
I recommend you use roll 20 for rpgs.
We do indeed use it, and love using it! Thank you for your recommendation!
Kr / Marcus
Thanks so much! We pulled many of the sounds directly from the movies (and some from Aliens videogames), and some from an archive of sound effects from very helpful people on the AlienRPG subreddit! Unfortunately, I can't help with music, but I recommend you do a google search for James Horner's Aliens Soundtrack! Good luck!
Thanks, I'll have a look!
Hey What's up yall 😊God Good 👍🙏🤪🙌👏✨👍Game 🎮👌👏🙏🙌😉🎮
Where do I know your voice from Matt G? (Subscribed, btw.)
I've done some work here and there, mostly in voice over! Thanks for your Sub!
You gave James the Donte character to play after Hammer got burned down by alien acid? That wasn't very nice Matt...
It was either that or Silva. And well, we all know how that ends.
@@SlicesnDices True. It wouldn't end well either way... LOL!
Why is it that UPP sounds like a very dirty coalition just by that abbreviation.
You down with UPP?
I just wish the beginning of the video was edited a bit
Hi @Maxthe2nd! This is a full video upload from our live games on Twitch. What would you have preferred be edited out?

Is this like some kind of a card game? Never seen anything like this, it's not a videogame I don't get it?
Tabletop. Think D&D ( Dungeons & Dragons) But in this case the Alien universe.
Chaplain is an impostor....
