This guy is monster! He's a very humble musician and always learning and getting better. If you think this is good, you should hear him play now! He's an awesome person to study with as well. Great job John
I know this is two years later, but I hope you did well ! I’m only an eighth grader and I have to play this solo for my audition to this prestigious high school’s fine arts academy. I’m afraid I might pass out on stage tho. Any advice?
Almost flawless performance of this very testing concerto. Congratulations John. You clearly have an awesome technique. The orchestra's work was tight and precise and most sensitive in the gorgeous slow movement. This is a performance for other young trumpeters to aspire to. Love it!
I have heard many people play this hauntingly Beautiful concerto and I feel Arturo's version is very good, but you stand right next to him in your control and emotional conveyance of this beautiful piece!! BRAVO!!!!
I was really surprised to find here a discussion about the technique of the player. He is really brilliant, no doubt. However, today everybody is crazy about the technique of the sound and voice. I may be wrong, but this makes art /music some kind of Olympic sports. I play piano myself. I love music very much, and, art isn’t about technique, in my opinion, it’s about soul and loving what you are doing. This music is wonderful, by the way.
WOW! Gorgeous sound, strong solid articulation, impeccable rhythmic integrity, and most of all; bold MUSICALITY define this performance. John truly tells us a story in his rendition of this epic concerto. He takes us on an emotional journey of bravura, heroism, conflict, tenderness, courage, mystery, resolution, and finally - victory!
No matter what you think about Azeris, Armenians, or Albanians, there is much here to appreciate. One can learn something from what they consider bad. As a professional Trumpet player, I find so little that could be considered bad, and many good things in his performance, tone, technique, and most of all musical expression. Even the orchestra is equal to his efforts! No one is PERFECT, but that should not prevent us as individuals from striving for excellence as far as our ability and amount of work we put into it, no matter what we do. Excellent job, John Parker!
Nice to hear a 20th century piece that iSN'T atonal. I'm going to have to check out more of this composer's music. I'd never heard of him before today.
Excellent, excellent playing, love your vibrato! Gives it a fantastic vintage sound that's quite appropriate while at the same time reminding me of many of the great British trumpeters (esp. Maurice). Absolutely nailed it to the back of the hall stylistically in my opinion. Well done my friend!
The extremes of these comments... To the performer/uploader, thank you for sharing this. There aren’t many quality and current performances of the Arutunian on RUclips and this is a great one. You can make so much more of this now. The two sixteenth/eighth rhythm is your home; make it yours every time. Whether you go down/up in pitch in the beginning or stay in the same pitch in the cadenza, that’s your motive all the way through this marathon.
For interested viewers, John is currently the associate principal trumpet for the Houston Symphony.

My god, that clarity just gives me the chills.
That tone is so full and beautiful! Well done
I'm playing this song for Solo and Ensemble in March and I absolutely love this recording of it. Perfect!
Do well, man! This piece is a chop burner and (as you know) demands so much control.

"almost" what must be missing then ?? 😵🎺😱😰😥.
@@da11king nothing can be perfect
@@da11king there were a few split notes at the very least, so there isn't any argument for this performance being "flawless".
Absolutely beautiful. I hope someday I have a fantastic tone like this

It's been awhile since I've heard the full orchestra version of this. What a lovely piece of music.
This is 2021. I see live audience, I immediately check the year it was published.
Un meraviglioso lavoro per tromba racchiude i sapori e i colori di Shostakovic e Kachaturiam. Una impeccabile esecuzione.

There are plenty non atonal pieces of the 20th century. However I know what you mean.
This is the dumbest thing i have heard sb say in a while
sea doggo Who do you mean.
Just because people are constantly dying in the news, it doesn't mean that the majority of the world is in conflict and experiencing danger
I can hear the Haydn influence in this piece. Blending different eras together. 👌🏻

I thought I was good at a trumpet, and then this happened.
All trumpet players think were good. I wish I could amount to what this guy does. This is absolutely beautiful.
True. It's all about practice, determination, and confidence, I guess.
its all relative. I thought he sounded amazing, but then I listened to Phil smith play the artunian and now this sounds slow and not as good.
I feel so relatable, this usually happens in music XD
