  • Today we are taking a quick look at the basic operations of a flame safeguard. The flame safeguard is the primary boiler control that serves as the brains of the whole operation. This boiler control supervises the flame and prevents over-pressurizations. It is also a critical component for troubleshooting a boiler that won't start. Understanding the sequence of a burner's control helps to identify causes easier when troubleshooting a flame failure or boiler that won't start.
Some of the questions that we aim to cover in this video are:
What is the FSG of a Boiler?
What are the most common boiler controls?
What is the sequence of a burner?
    What does MTFI mean?
    What does PTFI mean?
What is a call for heat on a burner?
How does the burner know when to cut on and cut off?
What is a purge and pre-purge on a boiler?
    What is a purge timer?

Don't forget safe start check (line voltage variations, brownouts etc).
Also, the RUN/TEST switch at the top of the controls to lock the FSG in its current position. Good for troubleshooting.

Hello! We have a blue box, Honeywell burner control, but it doesn't light up - as if it's not getting power. Can I replace the whole burner control? Is that an easy install? I have it already taken off - just two screws hold it in. Have you done a video on that? Thanks!

Feel free to give us a call with any questions. Before you part with the controller you should use a meter to verify power is still coming in to the programmer. www.powermechanical.com/
