    For future viewers. I’m pretty sure the part that he skips over at 55:00 is a camera Rotation. Around 56:00 You can see that the “Z Rotation” of the camera is now at 0x+29 and there’s two new key frames there. Considering it’s about half way through the frames, I’m assuming he did a Rotation 0x60 at 00:00 and then at the 1 second mark, it’s back down to 0x+0.

    • @NickKhoo
      @NickKhoo 3 года назад +11

      I did do a rotation but not using the rotation tool but setting keyframes on the z rotation of the camera. Nice spotting

    • @kristyjackson4921
      @kristyjackson4921 3 года назад +2

      This video was so informational. I did notice that myself that the text rotated. When Nick copied and pasted the keyframes to keep the camera still, the stopwatch was still active for the Z Rotation. I suppose since there was no value change for the Z Rotation, a keyframe was not added there.

    For anyone stuck at 55:44. Here is my solution, it works and am not sure if it is what Nick did. Remember the NULL Object? Select it, then press R to bring out the Rotation settings. You want to Rotate in the Z-axis. So, it is the ORIENTATION and there are three-axis, all with (00, 00, 00). In your timeframe, go to the beginning and click the TIME icon on your ORIENTATION, then select the third axis and type in 300. It should look like this now, (00, 00, 300). Then go to around 0:00:01:05 and then change the 300 back to 0. That should do the Rotation transition and don't forget to do the Easy Ease to make it smooth.

    • @NickKhoo
      @NickKhoo 3 года назад +1

      Yeah I just realised I skipped a step. Animate the z rotation on the camera and you’ll get the spin.

    Something important to realize while following along is make sure the the renderer being used to Classic 3D. This could cause you to run into some issues that might confuse you if you don't know what's happening.
    This can be found in Composition > Composition Settings. Click on the 3D Renderer tab and switch from Cinema 4D to Classic 3D.
    Cinema 4D does not allow track mats (that alpha channel technique we used) and it messes with the gradient map, which results in the effects not working properly. We are working with layers in 3D space (2.5D) and Cinema 4D restricts some of the techniques used in this video.
    For other projects where you would work with actual 3D objects (e.g. extruded things or renders), Cinema 4D is your renderer; however, it doesn't function properly for this type of project/techniques.

    The funny thing about learning AE - is that EVERY PROJECT is completely and utterly unique from one another. Yes 1 or 2 similarities, but what ever you do will be something different something new.
    I would rather see tutorials on how those presets that you download from Evanto/Motion Array - are designed or put together. (For example slideshow transitions) - Analyzing how they do it. Because going through those folders on the timeline, looks like something from an alien world. I once saw a layer that was clearly hidden (deselected eye icon) - BUT you still see the image on screen. So now, how the hell does that work? Or when you navigate into their sub-sub folders, it makes little sense why this thing is there and why that thing literally does nothing, but just delete it and the entire thing doesn't work.

    Love this tutorial! The only issue is that it's sometimes hard to follow where your mouse is pointing to making it difficult to see your selection

    Great tutorial. I'm not new at AE, been doing it for awhile, just liked this text animation and got some great tips I didn't know before. A tip from a fellow pro, if you want the gradient ramp to move with the text, especially when the camera moves, pre-comp the text animation and make that new comp a 3D layer.

      In hindsight I should have used a shape layer with a gradient ramp.
