    This is amazing..Ive deleted social media for nearly a year, but have found myself glued to youtube…going to try and wean off it. But I have noticed I am way more focused on myself and the comparison and jealousy has died down. Ive actually started to go for walks and being in nature and reading books!! Im more present with my family too. I almost wish I was brought into the world where social media did not exist

      That's great! It's amazing how much more headspace you have when you're not being drawn into the dismal abyss. I've actually recently had to get back on the wagon this past May because we launched a children's book through Kickstarter and it was a necessary means for getting the word out. And I found that I was immediately back into my old habits and I could physically feel it taking a toll on me. Luckily I'm conscious of it and have already taken the means to get myself back on track.

    Ive been quitting my phone. I’m so surprised I’ve been able to go so long without it. I still check it every day but here’s some easy things I did which made quitting my phone easier!
    Remove Instagram, Facebook, even RUclips from my phone.
    Delete all scrolling apps.
    Turn off notifications
    Turn off data
    Traded my phone and downgraded to a half broken iPhone 6. (Can’t go on it if it doesn’t work!) I would eventually like to only have a home phone but that comes with time.
    Leave my phone at home when I run errands and go to work or go hangout anywhere. I don’t need it on my person at all times
    I colour by number or do a puzzle, read a book or journal to fill my time when I’m at home. Or I try a new dinner recipe
    Quitting your phone is the BEST thing you can do for your mental health. Seriously! Just try it!

    I have deleted and re-downloaded social media on and off for years, I'm slowly getting better at destroying the habit. I currently am not on any social media except RUclips and I'm about to undertake a 30 day detox, my detox only allows internet use for Netflix and crunchyroll for movies and shows.
    I will be distancing from my phone, distancing from RUclips, and cutting down my screen time by focusing more on reading (ironically I have an ereader but I'm not counting that as a screen perse) and I recently got an original gameboy that's fully modified, for comfort sake, that I plan on using instead of modern games as that's a guilty addiction.
    Outside of Netflix and crunchyroll I'm allowing myself to check my emails once a day in a short window and anything to do with work which is usually the odd email and logging hours.
    My challenge is living in a remote area with a tiny population, I moved here at the start of this year for my wife's work, so I've been utilising RUclips for a lot of my human interaction, without it and seeing certain subscribed videos weekly I definitely feel like I'm going to be a little lost, but I'm also very excited to undertake the experiment and improve myself in many ways.
    I practise Minimalism and other self improvement ventures so I'm hoping to utilise the time to implement further habits, focusing around diet, frugality, meditation, exercise etc etc.
    My wife and I are also setting one night a week to have a board game, puzzle, journalling, craft night. I hope your journey continues in a positive light!

      It's great to hear your commitment to the challenge and I'd love to hear how it goes for you! Obviously, these lifestyle changes aren't easy but it's definitely fun to push yourself and see how you can better yourself. Best of luck, and thanks for watching!

    I did this twice with my Life Coach Online course, I also did a 30 day No TV (free to air) material, I have a apple TV so if I wanted I could use this, or youtube. It made a massive difference. To the point where I don't own a TV anymore. I read at least a book a week, I Journal for personal growth daily, read Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod, and change your thinking by Shara Edelman. I try to do trail running or walking most week ends. Gravel bike and I discovered music, on vinyl records. I listen to a lot of live concerts and motorcycle travel reports on youtube and positive exercise motivation materials

      That is awesome! It is incredible how such a seemingly simple shift can make such a massive impact. I am still surprised by how much time I wasted without even realizing it - not to mention the power of spending that time on more positive things. Sounds like you were able to create a lot of positive personal habits - Nice work!

    • @simob7862
      @simob7862 2 года назад

      @@RhiandPete the biggest shift came from the content I watched on RUclips I set a limit to how many shows I watched and stopped mindlessly scrolling through junk. So I would watch a live concert of pink floyd, then study 📚 to the end of the concert I would set an alarm 🚨 every 2 hours for a break then I have 2 actual videos and then my Mac would close the ability to use. I would do any work from 8-9 pm
      It made a massive difference. I also planned for joy on every weekend

    I did this before we had our daughter and loved it! However, I felt drawn back in when I had my daughter because everything was virtual with COVID for parenting help and this is where the mommy groups are. Any advise on how to kick social media but maybe still connect with other parents especially as a first time mom with questions (for instance, "my daughter just..... is this normal!?")

    • @RhiandPete
      @RhiandPete 3 года назад

      We totally know the feeling...an interesting time to be a new parent, for sure! I work around this by turning off most of my Facebook notifications and when I do go into the app to engage in my Moms Groups, I only check the Groups tab at the bottom and that helps keep me focused on the community I want to be a part of. At first, it was difficult to avoid getting sucked into the other tabs, but after setting my ScreenTime App on my phone to really low social media limits, the reminder that I am over my limit helps keep me in check and looking at only the Groups tab to engage.

      Oof. It's so hard to avoid using our phones. I'm currently on Take 2 of a detox because my time since this video has crept up to almost the 6-hour range. So for February 2024, I'm focused on cutting that time in half and my goal is to avoid the doom scroll. So I cut out Reddit (2/3 of my overall time) to help shorten my overall time spent on my phone. Scripted, shot, and edited very well! Quick question, did this experiment end up changing your relationship with RUclips? I noticed you haven't uploaded in over a year.
    I've wanted to do something like this myself. Instagram is the only one I'd have an issue with because I like photography and have met some friends on there, but the rest can go!

    • @RhiandPete
      @RhiandPete 2 года назад +1

      Hey David! Thanks for the comment and kind words. I think initially this experiment definitely changed my relationship with RUclips, both as a consumer and a creator. Since then I've found a healthy balance for consumption. The main thing I do now is I won't allow myself the scroll the feed, but instead I just search for the shows or videos that I'm going to RUclips for. That isn't to say that I still don't scroll and find new things from time to time, but it does help curb screen time. As for creating videos, we took a little hiatus because our daughter entered the toddler stage and we couldn't find the dedicated time during the day to shoot and write our videos, so we ultimately put our channel on the back burner for the year. But we do plan on starting it back up now that we've got a better handle on our schedule and now that our daughter is a little older and more self-sufficient.
