I'll never forget hearing Passionflower for the first time, incredible musicianship.
I love how much he loves his signature guitar. It's so refreshing to see a guitarist who's like a kid with a new toy instead of a corporation with a new brand deal.
Lucky enough to live in the same city as Jon. Saw him dozens of times in pubs and small local venues before Passionflower went viral, was like having your own personal guitar hero.
Somebody should tell this dude there’s a much easier way to play guitar 😅 What incredible talent!
Best comment yet 😅
i was going to say someone should tell him you can start a band and not have to do everything yourself lol
Nailed it. That comment wins RUclips.
Whilst they are at it, they should also point it that it would save him a lot of time and effort if he tuned his guitar before he started.
Jon is an absolute titan. His playing is delightful; it makes my shriveled, death-metal loving heart swell with joy.
What an extraordinary talent. Most of that kind of acoustic playing leaves me cold with its samey-ness, but the addition of the vocals just elevates this to another level. A joy to watch.
Still leaves me cold! Can't get into the percussion stuff!
@@HC_GUITAR wouldn’t make any sense without the percussion
@@HC_GUITAR I’m with you 100%.
It’s always a pleasure to see and to listen to Jon, such an inspiration.
Legend!
Jon is such an inspiration, amazing live performer. Since discovering Passionflower I think I've seen him 2 or 3 times and just gets better every time! Love you, Jon!
How is that even humanly possible? Jaw dropped after only 20 sec into the video. Amazing! Thank you for introducing us this wonderful gent!
I think a looper would help him!
@@kimmolingonheimo He doesn´t use loopers
I remember the first time I saw him perform Passionflower and was absolutely blown away. What an amazing talent!
Ive met jon a few times, absolutely great genuine guy! So glad to see him on here!
Yes, Michael hedges stared straight into my eyes leaned over from 2nd row in round rotating stage for a moment, and he played with a great fury, then he was gone. Michael died in car accident in CA that year later at Thanksgiving. Yes he was a guitar legend and I still have his cover of Acoustic Guitar mag in my stand with my music videos. Great playing and singing Jon!
Such a wonderful talent. So glad he is starting to get a bit of momentum now. Thoroughly well deserved.
Yes, very glad to finally see Jon here! More people need to hear his amazing music.
Excellent demo/interview, a really interesting and entertaining chat. Thank you. Both.
Thanks so much for posting this interview.
Been waiting for this for ages. Nice one Captain!
Yes to more performances. Never heard of Jon Gomm, but it was really cool to add this to the format.
Wow ! Thanks for this interview. What a knowledgeable, humble & amazingly talented guy. l know Jon said he prefers to work alone, but l could only try to imagine if he & Charles Berthoud created a track together ...
Thanks again & the Blackstar amp design sounds excellent, in concept & sound.
Awesome talent and sounds like such a nice guy, quality interview as always well done andertons team.
Very interesting and enjoyable interview. thank you.
Wow! Jon Gomm. Songwriter & player of the highest quality.
Great interview!
most expressive guitarist of the whole acoustic genre fr
what an inspiration this guy is- just awesome
Brilliant. I love this guy and his music. Had the balls to follow his own path and is making it work. Inspirational.
Oh been waiting for this one. Jon is a genius and a thoroughly lovely chap too. He chatted with us for ages last time we saw him, including answering all my 12 year olds questions.
I really loved this interview
For a long time I've known of Jon Gomm, and occasionally crops up on my feed. What a great interview, and what a great talent Jon has.
Have loved his music for a long time. an incredible musician.
Ok, normally when guys play the guitar with crazy gymnastics like the slapping and popping, some of the beauty gets lost in the complexity. And they often don’t sing along with it. This is a whole other level. That Gloria song was amazing. I have never heard of this guy prior to today. I dig it.
Brilliant conversation! Very engaging...
Wonderful musician and person. Resonates ❤
One of my favourite guitarists of all time, and an incredibly down to earth and wonderful human!
Wow never heard of him, amazing,,one of kind.Loved it !!!
That was amazing playing and musicianship....and what a great guy !!
Love this - and as an ND person myself I love Jon's readiness to talk about his neurodivergence and the journey to finding a voice and and an approach that fits how he works!
Argh OMG I love Jon’s music. Everything else I’m doing stops while I watch this!!!!!
SOOOOOOOOOOOO good!! Gawd I LOVE Gomm!
Amazing.... Never see somebody playing like him
I looked at the thumbnail and thought to myself "who might this guy be, never heard of him". Didn't mean to watch the whole interview right now but saw the intro song and thought to myself "what on earth is he doing, must've spent a million hours to practice that, incredible that someone would strive to pull this off". What an amazing guy, I'm not sure if this is really innovative, someone might've done things like these before, but completely foreign to me.
Holy moly very cool.
Wow....what a talented artist!!!!!
I was introduced to Jon’s music a few years ago by a mutual friend and was really taken away by his “ain’t nobody” reinterpretation video on RUclips. Since then I have gotten all his albums and they’re all soo good. Great acoustic guitar playing but awesome songwriting and singing too. Check out his 2020 album “the faintest idea”. Great interview as usual!
At 22mins... I'm not quite sweep picking, but I know a legendary "dad rock" lick or three on electric and can pretty much play all the old candy rat songs. I listened to Passionflower for the first time in about 5-years and the two hand playing in that song clicked and has totally revamped a song I was struggling with. Thanks Jon. Saw him in Glasgow before... a true social media influencer.
Edit: Laughed out loud at him meeting Santa.
I love Blackstar's distortion! Super heavy!
Jon is a top bloke. Took the time to see him at a guitar show after a mate of mine had been raving about him for years. Saw straight away what all the fuss was about!!
Had a chat with him afterwards and he’s a really good guy. Took time to answer my questions and was a real gent. Kind of guy you’d like to be sitting with in a pub….
The fragility of Prince (sometimes it snows in April). Awesome discover for me today 🥰🎸🙏
Clive Carroll & Jon Gomm - Two Masters of the guitar 🎸
I love Jon. Amazing stuff. If you other posters enjoy him, please go check out Alexandr Misko, who not only does the tuner thing, but his guitar setup is one of the sickest I've ever seen! Seriously....
Jon is a legend.
I've been a fan of Gomm since I saw passionflower but I've never seen or heard an interview with him before now. Friggin love this guy! What a character lol
Love you guys ❤
I like his music, I like his technique and he's a nice guy too, so what more? 👍🏼👍🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Amazing gymnastics.
I just found this guy thru an ambient baritone guitar search/playlist on RUclips music. I understand this guy 100%. I have the ADHD obsession and shiny thing problem too. So much simpler to do something yourself than to have to take the time to explain. In my next life i want to obsess on playing guitar more.
I'm not the biggest fan of percussion acoustic guitar, but, Jon Gomm has that beautiful melodic sound. I love his music sooo much.
Never heard of him, what a shock !
WOW! Could listen to all day. What a unique playing style. How long did it take to perfect it?
man, this dude is crazy good
Never heard of him. Thanks for introducing Jon's music to me.
His album The Faintest Idea is incredible.
wow!
damn, he's incredible.
Una maravilla
Never heard this guy before. Pretty amazing. Never seen anyone use the tuning pegs as a performance tool on the instrument. AND he's an IBANEZ man, like myself!
To add to Jons Guthrie story - He's talking about Guitarist mag competition for guitarist of the year. Dave K won it the first time, and well deserved. Guthrie won it the second year it ran.
I sent a tape in - yes, it was that long ago - and got an invite to attend. Ego destroyed right there. There were many fantastic players playing but Guthrie shon unbelievably. I was expecting an audience of cross armed guitarist but everyone that i met that night was positive and supportive of all the players. A good night for sure.
What a top bloke Jon is….aside from his phenomenal talent, I just love his direct communication and tell it like it is style…love to have a few pints with him sometime…(I’d be buying Jon if you ever read this comment!)
Cocoon live in 4k quality! Thank you Anderton's TV for making this real🙏
Holy Moly - another Michael Hedges!
Jon Gomm signature tuners.
Amazing. I thought those peg thingies were for tuning.
wow
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Master at work. And there is a reason I have 4 Ibanez guitars 😁
Love nick harper I see where comes from
Thousands of dollars of gear… I quit…. Thanks for this guys what an amazing talent ❤
27:48 I bet he was talking about Alan Gogoll
very likely
I remember people saying to me .
There’s not many options left for guitar music . As almost everything has been played . That can be played .
Them people probably slag off Jon Gomm
This was awesome!! I have a Blackstar AcousticCore 30. Can anybody shed some light on why I get a really loud hiss when I use the XLR DI out to a PA? Thank you!
That sounds like grounding issue most likely but I'm just some guy
50:04 Awww the pickups!!
Fuck I love guitars.
rather original and real
jon, where have you gomm?
iykyk
😂😉
The Gomm Cushionn is what he should call the foam at the back of his guitar.
that intro 😵
I was just typing that to my ears he has touch of the Roy Harpers....... and, well there you go.
I remember a scruffy long haired young man carrying some gear up to a small stage at Leicester race course during a Shehans music store(RIP) event.I thought he was a roadie! And then he started playing and singing....
Why does Captain look 3 feet tall and Gomm like like he's a giant 12 foot man in the thumbnail?
That opening song is incredible! He looks a bit like Freddie Mercury.
Lee you Slapper
what strap is that?
if i can use it on electric that’d be incredible
I thought this said Ian Gomm from the 70s band Brinsley Schwarz.
passion flower
Thats really interesting whats he says about a player like Curt Cobain and how hard it is to duplicate someone who hasn´t got the technique down and just goes for it, mistakes and all. I´m gonna go out on a limb and say Hendrix is another one in some perspectives.
Does anyone else feel- and I say this with the utmost respect- that he should have some cymbals glued to the insides of his knees? And maybe a kazoo hanging around his neck? LOL- In all seriousness, he plays amazingly, and his stuff is beautiful- but you have to admit, it has that "one man band" vibe going on. Sometimes Mike Dawes has the same vibe- and in a way, they are one-man bands- but their stuff sounds amazing. I wish I could play that beautifully.
I remember when Jonno Gollow first brought you to play at Peel Centenary Centre all those years ago. We were awed and thought our guitars only thence fit for firewood. You then returned on several occasions and taught us that it actually was possible for us to play in such a way. I can play three of your songs properly now..I'm working on making it four. We must get you back to the Isle of Man soon. B xxx
WTF just happened!? His he human!? Where are his dogs!? Was that Punk- Pop!? So impressively beautiful.
Monster
The man has 7 brains
When I saw this I was immediately move to comment, then for the first time I couldn’t find the words.
Needs some locking tuners I'd say. Constantly tuning the guitar. 😕
The Captain aka Slapper Lee.
