Bromo never fails me! 1. Once I and friends walked down the desert in the middle of the night, there are guiding stones actually. 2. Bromo local people called Tengger. Their religion is Hindu. That's why you see Hindu's temple in the middle of the desert. 3. Later I went again but this time I took a horse passed 50cm width path with a hill on the right side and deep canyon on the left. I told the horse guide to stop cos I prefer to walk. Better be safe than sorry 🤣🤣 4. The local people used to do traditional sulfur mining [seems nobody take a chance again after its last erruption in 2015]. What I mean by traditional is they broke the stone [?] by hand and carried it way up there in two baskets [right and left]. While I'm out of breath just to walk the stairs to see the crater 😆😆 Few basic Indonesian language [in case you're interested 😆] 1. Good morning = selamat pagi 2. Good afternoon = selamat siang [approx 12pm-3pm] or selamat sore [3pm-6pm] 3. Good evening = selamat malam 4. How are you? = apa kabar? 5. My name is ... = nama saya ... 6. I'm good, thank you. And you? = saya baik-baik saja, terima kasih. Dan anda? 7. How much is this? = Ini berapa? 8. Oh that's expensive = Oh mahal sekali [do this with a smile, like you're joking] You'll be amazed by the reaction when you said those words. Nice ice breaking points. That's what I did whenever I traveled to other countries. Speak their language and suddenly they become our friends 😆
Congrats on getting the sunrise! When I went there we just got clouds unfortunately😂 but would definitely recommend while you're in Java to go to Mount Ijen if you have the opportunity. It's absolutely incredible and just like it looks in the pictures! 😍

We'd recommend finding a good place on King Kong Hill that's not directly at the main lookout platform. We followed a footpath leading up the hill and picked a spot that had a good view over Bromo and the direction where the sun was supposed to rise. Just make sure to bring some sort of flashlight 🙂
