Speculation here: Nintendo usually runs multiplayer games by peer-to-peer, so for a larger game (as this seems described as), it makes sense that they’re doing testing as something like that would require a dedicated server (which to my knowledge Nintendo hasn’t done much in terms of live multiplayer games (with seemingly proper interaction, Tetris 99 doesn’t count) with a dedicated server).
You know what would be cool is if this acted as the amiibo game that everyone has been waiting on, scan in an amiibo and either you play as the character or get a costume for them. Waiitt I've never played a Starfox but I love this idea so much. Like, Nintendo has several golden IPs that would be such easy successes to revive as long as they just sincerely make a user friendly game.
This explains why the number of testers had to be limited, they are testing a server and they want to make sure it works well from the get go and be sure the server doesn't lag at a low scale like everything else they make with online.
Maybe a bit off base, but I personally think this could be Nintendo's way of testing server infrastructure in order to move away from peer-to-peer networking. Even within the last few years, new titles like Splatoon 3 have continued to use peer-to-peer, and it's become more and more of a point of frustration for players. This kind of MMO-type game with communication features and UGC and whatnot seems like a perfect way to test some new servers, see if they can handle the kind of playerbase they might expect from a proper online game. To me, that's what the blurb about "testing the boundaries of mass multiplayer functionality and gameplay on our servers" gave off to some degree. Regardless of whether it's the main purpose or just an extra benefit, I'm sure Nintendo understands that their 1st party online games need dedicated servers in the year 2024.
I can foresee this being some sort of community hub that players collaborate on, sort of like Miiverse. Maybe it could be something that players work together on to reveal Nintendo games in development, new merch, etc...
We do have access to a website that says everything about the Playtest, so it's a "leak" cause we *did* sign an NDA to get the code and all but, I mean, it's on the internet, it's their fault. Oh, by the way they did keep screenshots and recordings on on the game, that's cool that we can keep memories but why not turn it off so it's harder to share it?? And the "feature" is servers, yes it's a game but it might never leave the Playtest, it's to test dedicated servers

reading the doc I was thinking that, maybe it could be like a mega lobby for new kind of Miis? maybe part of the selling console feature is that your profile is a character in that expansive world? crazy idea?
I find it odd that people are indignant about Nintendo protecting their interests in this circumstance as if it’s not a reasonable thing to do. Not that Nintendo shouldn’t have seen this coming, because of course 10,000 average players aren’t going to keep quiet, but being like “why is Nintendo being this way???” feels silly.
I would bet money this is Gaia, Pokémon’s Gen 10, since an MMORPG was mentioned in the huge leaks. Pokémon’s 30th anniversary is coming up in 2026, a year after the Switch 2 will probably launch. It’ll be yet another half-baked Pokémon game, but it’ll be more innovative than ever. Plus Gaia = Earth, so an MMORPG about creating new worlds while maintaining your own secret base is too fitting!
It sounds really cool actually!! I'm glad it's more than just an online feature. Can't wait to see footage. "You're a little monkey or somethin'." I'm sold.
The description reminds me of a game called Trove, which (among other things) gave each player a square plot of land to build on, Minecraft style. You could then summon your plot onto specific locations in the open world, allowing other players to see and run around in it. Anything you put in it was persistent, so you could summon it to another overworld plot and everything would be there. It was a pretty neat system!
I remember reading an offhanded comment about an mmo but it said for which series too. The idea was such a nonpossibility at the time, I'm upset for not remembering it.
Can you just imagine, Breath of the Wild with thousands of strangers per server. Running around the map as your own Hylian or even Zora hero. This feature could be crazy.

Getting this so soon after Grand Fest, I wonder if Nintendo is pondering a Splatoon lobby populated with other players in real time…. Would be a really neat addition to Splatoon 4!
This is on a website that people who got in were given access to, along with the download code, so they know what it is they are testing. It wasn't datamined or anything.
If i were to throw out a shot in the dark, i would say that if this isn't an original IP, i wouldn't be surprised if this was leading into a successor to Miitomo/Miitopia. After you need some type off avatar to represent you amongst countless other players- an even more robust version of the mii creator like Miitopia had would be ideal for that.

Nah you guys are so shortsighted, what nintendo really needs to do is make knack 3 before Sony does, it'll be A MASTAHPEECE!
Guys no no no. They buy RARE and they make a brand new Game. A Banjo.
As in a game controller. To play Mr. Pant’s Jungle Beat.
Quick, people. Download this video.
Nintendo alwasy does the weird, unexpected thing
Cause they're creative and fun.
Like having a *************** or [[this reply has been copyright claimed]]
@@RhythmGrizz So creative and fun to lie about and abuse the law to people who have much less resources than them.
Yeah, fuck them
This is basically the opposite of the whole Emio situation.
i wonder if they applied lessons they learned from that directly to this
what was the emio situation..?
@@rylaaaaaaa emio situation is crazy (they released a really serious spooky trailer for a game then it turned out to be a horror visual novel)
@@otheruck was there something wrong with that?
@rylaaaaaaa No not really. It's just that everyone thought it'd be something huge and it wasn't. This is basically the opposite
This would be a CRAZY starfox reboot 🙏 (I’m delusional) 4:30
And the "feature" is servers, yes it's a game but it might never leave the Playtest, it's to test dedicated servers
playstation home + miiverse with roblox like creation sounds like an amzing idea
I’m so sad you didn’t get to play it ;-; I’m sure you would’ve really liked it. I just got done playing it for today and dang, I spent a few hours finishing our plot with a few other people and the ending of that was magical ;-;
Though if it ever does come out, I feel like it would be one of those games where people would play for a week and then stop
The Legend of Zelda: Federation Force
Planets? Star Fox? Remember, Star Link had the ability to travel to different planets, build different structures, plus adventuring and racing. With the Star Link formula, add building and getting out of the vehicles, sounds awesome.
I love Star Link btw.
If planets were not just the same assets placed all over them :P
This looks like a very fun idea for an MMO. This has to be a future full game. Keep in mind that they were also playing around mechanically with the concept of Splatoon well before it was about squids
Would have laughed so hard if you ran the Concord trailer for this lmao
I'm six and a half minutes in and this just sounds like Minecraft factions so far.
The more I hear about this, the more convinced I am that Nintendo sent a picture of the play testers family with the nda
Nintendo even strikes fear in everyones favorite blue muppet.
god i hope it becomes a feature. we need miiverse 2.
Nearly 12 hours now of waiting for the Topic Arlo video on the recent Sakurai Presents Finale where he mentioned a super secret project he's working on... 12 more hours and he will have to be presumed dead.
Calling it now, this will eventually become a Doshin the Giant MMO. Everyone has their own custom giant and, rather than build on an island, it's an entire planet.
Was gonna go to sleep but gotta watch this before it’s taken down lol
For those wondering: Yes
The music is funky.
You played the game?
@@theprotnt596 Sadly no, but the soundtrack got leaked. I'd post the Google Doc, but want Arlo catching strays.
@@chasemiller3712 you don’t have to post anything,I found the doc within 5 minutes of searching online
@@chasemiller3712 also, after seeing the sheer number of songs, I think there is absolutely no way that this game isn’t gonna be released publicly in the future
@@theprotnt596 Anything is possible, but it certainly be a shame if so. Maybe they can use some of the songs for other games, or even sample it into a new song. It has that kind of energy about it.
Arlo nobody made you do it, but we are here for it!
In loving memory of TopicArlo
reading the doc I was thinking that, maybe it could be like a mega lobby for new kind of Miis? maybe part of the selling console feature is that your profile is a character in that expansive world? crazy idea?
can i say i LOVED the part when you say "it's NUTS" as a pretty big amount of actual weird robo-nuts fall from a tree in astrobot that was pretty cool
Rest in peace Arlo...
I'm getting light no fire vibes from the description
Arlo’s the one guy who’s immune from the Nintendo Copyright Assassins.
I FIGHT ALONG SIDE YOU, ARLO! I'M ONLY KINDA SCARED OF THE NINTENDO NINJAS!!!
What if this game is their way to bring back Miis and social interactivity, similar to the Mii Streetpass Plaza?
from the brief description this sounds like what hellogames has been working on - light no fire
Wow I am shocked that you made a curiosity what's inside the cube reference what a throwback
Lying Peter promised a great prize for the winner: being an active deity in his next game and get royalties. Nothing happened
@@napoleonfeanor hahaha yeah i remember reading that. So insane...
Can you just imagine, Breath of the Wild with thousands of strangers per server. Running around the map as your own Hylian or even Zora hero. This feature could be crazy.
7:17 The brown bot to the right LOL
As the worlds biggest death stranding fan this sounds awesome to me.
Why am I imagining an Animal Crossing MMO
2:15 - Ahh, sounds like in 2020 they decided you weren't felating them hard enough and blacklisted the main channel. I'm surprised you're still so positive about them on everything after that.
Depending on how open the building is, players will try to build a world of PPs.
Yeah the people in the playtest were supposed to get some information a few days before it starts but it was also datamined apparently
New TopicArlo upload, yay!
I’m way more intrigued by this play test being for a new game (or prototype) than if it were just a new system added to NSO.
RIP Arlo, you will be missed.
I'm here just to say that Arlo has never talked about going puppeteer hole first into a woodchipper when ever he has had any contact with Nintendo.
i feel like if this is something their working on, and it’s an MMO type of experience, they’re testing it out in the original switch to see if it could possibly be cross gen
Arlo had a smile that could light up any room 💔🕯️
The screenshots remind of Doshin the Giant 😊
Getting this so soon after Grand Fest, I wonder if Nintendo is pondering a Splatoon lobby populated with other players in real time…. Would be a really neat addition to Splatoon 4!
I love that "strand type games" ended up being a real thing
This sounds like a StreetPass Mii Plaza game on steroids. I'm here for it!
I give it about 25 more minutes.
Nice, I was wrong.
Aaaauuugghhh now I'm even MORE upset that I couldn't get in!! This sounds so interesting 😭
I hate that it's so secretive
This is on a website that people who got in were given access to, along with the download code, so they know what it is they are testing. It wasn't datamined or anything.
Nice knowing you Arlo, leave me with something nice.
Knew someone would leak the NSO Playtest despite trying to get people to sign NDAs
This just sounds like Xenoblade x
THANK you! That's what I was thinking too, they're trying to figure out a way to reincorporate the MMO elements of Xenoblade X
Maybe it's Xenoblade X2
God I hope so@@WulfilaBelmont
Oh man. I hope so
Arlo you skipped the part that has some specific gameplay details:
The document has a FAQ section, one of the questions is about Energy, and it says you have an inventory where your Cards are, and you can convert those into Energy.
And then you can use Energy for several things including fusing.
No further details are given about other things you can do. Maybe there will be basic cards for the resources you gather, but also limited runs of resource cards or character cards, kind of like Animal Crossing furniture? This is the most interesting part to me
Don't worry Arlo we'll protect you from the ninjas
after getting to hear about this stuff, i am so excited that i got selected to participate. it seems really interesting and fun.
Take a moment to appreciate your surroundings, Arlo. For this will serve as your tomb for eternity.
