The significance of the “wake your punk ass up” is in reference to the first half of the song being his perspective after taking a hit of the laced blunt, and then “waking up” and seeing Compton sober, realizing the fear is still there. His voice gets more anxious too because he’s now awake and seeing the horror
“Wake your punk ass up” is just MC Eiht’s catchphrase lol don’t think it’s that deep. Listen to his music he says it all the time. Listen to “Streight Up Menace”
So did guy on the left start with Mr Morale? That album is really only truly appreciated when you’ve got the years and years of Kendrick knowledge under your belt. I feel like if I hadn’t consumed all of Kendrick’s past albums I just would have been completely lost, it being pretty much a therapy sesh and all.
I would say one more JID kendrick thing is that they're both truth tellers. They're not obsessed with being macho in their hoods, they speak truth. Speaking on experience and being macho as fuck has only worked once IMO... Scarface On My Block.... maybe you'll get to it. Great track and one of the best hip hop videos ever made.
Anybody else decipher this song to be Kendrick alluding to killing whoever laced him? It’s mentioned in the same song. Then on Mortal Man, on TPAB, he asks fans if we’d still love him if he got convicted/persecuted for this same thing. Yeahhhh Dot 😂 we still fw bro lmao
Also listen 2 ignorance is bliss.. it’s what got Dr Dre into Kendrick before he was famous but not the video because the music video doesn’t have the full song
Fiiiiiinally giving Kendrick some respect haha. I get the "this isn't from the new album" type of comment, but once you get to listen to this guy's discography as a whole, you understand why this kind of rapping and writing isn't on his new album. This guy is literally telling us his life through his albums and his evolution. Kendrick is still one of the GOATs, he just isn't in his 20s anymore and since his life isn't what it was back then, his songs can't be what they were back then either. People change, people evolve, and if you're being real with your lyrics, your music should reflect that at some point. Cheers, guys, great reaction!
(Court) bro we’ll said! And I love the fact that you see Kendrick is not gonna be the same artist with the same sound and song each time. He is the true definition of someone who has truly evolved in this game and you can hear it throughout his discography! Great minds think alike! Cheers Fam!
I know you get these comments all the time but you need to check out Friday night cypher by big Sean ft Eminem if you haven’t already. I promise you guys will love it! Ps keep up the good work love your reactions!

@@tonnyrico94 I know it’s his catchphrase but it is used to “wake kendrick up” from his high state.
I think you made a good point , mc eiht also said that Kendrick wrote his verse because he had a vision for the track . I don’t think your far off

I’m so ready to see the Money Trees reaction! To me it’s a song that will forever be a vibe and the feature is *chef’s kiss*
Kendrick was better before damn period. Especially before he started calling himself Kung fu Kenny
“We adept at crime” * I think the line is lol
I take it back it is “adapt” but both words could have worked in different ways 😂. My bad G
The whole song was dray baby ;)
You guys should check out Duckworth off of DAMN
My favourite album of Kendricks 🔥

We did blacker the Berry. Peep the Kendrick playlist we have!
Would be really interested in a worldwide steppers reaction, that’s such an elite yet different song
I saw Kendrick perform in Birmingham, UK. And thought the way he performed it just changed the whole perception of that song for me.
❤
Court and/or case what is the car on the album cover btw (or comments) ?!
(Court) The van was KDots Mom’s old ride and it was mentioned through that album
Can you explain that why you thought of Eminem during Kendrick's last verse?
(Court) I thought of him bc of the different voice pitches he used, the cadence and the way he bent his words
(Court) all the greats pull little pieces from the greats before them in some ways and make it better! I feel that is the ultimate homage.
@@BeersBars ok
Love the vid, but it’s JID my guy
Do to pimp a Butterfly Album reaction 🔥🔥 Just became the #1 Rated Album of All time few weeks ago
(Court) Casey you see that? 😂 I don’t even have to say it anymore it’s out for the public to see! We gotta dig into to some joints
