  • An interview with the Rev. Dr. Rick Grace of the Disciples Heritage Fellowship. A close and honest look at what the Bible (focusing mainly on the New Testament) actually says about same-sex attraction.
I will point out that Rick is certainly a conservative Christian Scholar, I however have long and still maintain the standing and identity of a theological moderate. I am neither conservative nor liberal in my understanding and application of Scripture.

The first thing i want to say is thank you for being respectful towards gay people. Many Christians in real life and on the internet are really uncharitable towards LGBT+ people. Sometimes downright malicious. You and your guest were polite and didn't treat us like we are subhuman, which i appreciate.
Anyways, I'm a gay Deist and i was raised in a Christian household. My personal interpretation of the bible w/ regards to homosexuality is that it's a grey area. I always saw the writer's perspective + historical context to be important in reading scripture. You guys talked about the historical context but did not really dig into the fact that Paul demonstrates a lot of sex-repulsed tendencies. Going so far as to imply that Christians who are unable to remain single are weaker than their celibate counterparts. Considering that you are inclined to interpret scripture as coming from God, do you see this sentiment of celibate Christians being superior to married Christians as a position God holds?

You are most welcome. Both Rick and I have family members in the gay community. Personally, as I said in the video my best man was/is a gay man who I love like a brother. As a professional artist and a Gallery owner, I worked for years with artists and interior designers many of whom were gay and they were and are friends. I don't think homosexuality is a grey area at all in scripture and I don't think Paul had a repressed inclination towards sex. I do believe Paul had a strong inclination against a lack of self-control and that can and does manifest itself in the sexual realm. The verses you're referring to are found in 1st Corinthians 6&7. Remember that Paul believed that the Lord's return was going to happen in his lifetime and was coming at any moment. To lose focus upon the Lord's return was his worry concerning taking a wife or husband. Obviously, God wants us to be married His command "Be fruitful and multiple" is clear enough. So no, I don't think Paul thought single people were superior Christians, (actually the Jewish sect that followed Christ, as there was no Christianity in Paul's lifetime) but he strongly believed that those with self-control were more faithful and devote. I'll let Rick know about your comment and perhaps he will chime in. God bless and God's love. Roy

The HONEST answer is: virtually nothing. Does it say somethings? Arguably yes. But virtually nothing in terms of the vast quantities of passages in the Bible.

That there is little stated is mentioned in the video. HOWEVER, and HONESTLY, what is mentioned clearly condemns the behavior. The fact that little is said does not negate that when it is mentioned it is soundly condemned as sinful behavior. Claiming otherwise is in fact dishonest. Did you listen to the entire video?? I suspect not...
