Lincoln (and Dan) -- I work for the company that makes those bases: Schutt Sports (say it like 'shut up and play'). It's cool to get to see what people will do with the bases once they've come off the field--stools, side tables, wall fields (someone bought three bases and a home plate for his man cave). I like the idea of mounting them to the wall on the long cut side--looks like someone threw it and it got stuck there. :) The base is a few parts: the metal plate and stem on the bottom, screws, metal strips, inner foam, outer rubber skin, and of course--the jewels on the sides. Each MLB team gets to choose what their jewels look like--the Tigers wanted to show that they were 4-Time AL Central Champion, and each team does something a little bit different. Well done!

Got a feeling that pole which juts out from the bottom and is inserted into a shaft in the infield is the primary culprit because there's no give.
i believe your refering to a street hockey stick, or a plastic stick. the inside, like someone mentioned, is hollow. the blade is just a thick piece of plastic that is attached my screws. although i sounds cool there really wouldnt be much to see. Have a good day!-Taylor

The reason they have the squishy stuff is first for support and second so that when a runner steps on the bag it makes a different sound then when the ball hits the glove so the umpire can tell weather the batter is safe or out!

The reason it was in the game for innings 1-6 was to get it dirty and make it "Game Used" valid. I always see workers take out bases after the 6th inning to sell the base that exact game.

It's something most collectors would love to have, but it's by no means priceless, rare, or super expensive in the grand scheme of collecting memorabilia. Especially sports memorabilia.
