Yeah I don’t think the main stream gyms would allow this behavior and you could say did you really do any work if your partner had to lift the bar off you? My brother hated doing that because it’s basically a high pull for him because you couldn’t handle the load.
@@michaelsofineYou can actually get really good contractions if you do negative reps with a weight you can't lift and your spotter who knows what he's doing pulls the weight off of you with minimal force.

Discovering Tom Platz made me deeply appreciate leg day more than I could imagine. They're the hardest exercises someone can do (at least for me) and taking your squats to failure certainly does surprise you with what you can accomplish when your exhaustion has reached its peak. Knowing you can willingly push yourself to the brink of collapse with your legs alerts you to the fact that you are more capable of accomplishing anything if you approach any challenge with a relentless mindset. The iron that you lift, the destruction you bring upon your body by training to failure, the fatigue that comes with knowing you've visited the fringes of your limits and walking away knowing that those boundaries have expanded because of your effort, it ushers a sense of success and fulfillment I've never felt with any other exercise. If anyone would like to learn more about Tom Platz, he has a few seminars on RUclips. He's a very interesting individual and has the heart of a champion.
He understands the sweet internal science of understanding the importance of every single rep. He knows that every single rep is a sliver of opportunity for growth and change. You can tell he had a burning passion to make sure every single rep counted. That's literally the difference between people who just go to the gym to exercise and those who go there to train and strain. Jeff Nippard will never show his audience any Tom Platz videos because it goes against his science based approach nonsense. It's not hard. Lift weight with intention and purpose.
I think his mentality to training can be summarised in a training video he did coaching someone through a leg session, "congratulations, you've achieved failure". Such a subtle difference between achieving failure and hitting failure but the nuance makes all the difference
Dude you are the funniest guy reviewing videos, holy shit I have been dying laughing. Had to pause so I didn’t spit my coffee out when you’re talking about all the delts getting pumped 😂. To think I’m watching a guy watching a guy workout and it’s this funny is jokes
Your point about not truly knowing how many reps you have in the tank, especially for nooby lifters, is so true. I was talking to a pencil neck science based lifter about this exact thing One other point I have is that they’re whole programs are based around scheduled levels of intensity through a “mesocycle”. My problem is, what if you don’t feel 100% on the day that you’re supposed to max out. Is that whole month of training now “sub-optimal” because the one week you were supposed to go balls to the wall, you didn’t have it? I would much rather go hard and at least close to failure most of the time and allow how I am feeling that day determine my volume
i feel like some influencers are incentivised to over complicate things under the guise of safety and longevity, which is not entirely wrong, I have thought about it a lot, and I think these kinds of programs are actually very effective for people that would walk in to the gym and mindlessly do the same actions week in week out. For those people, they need these types of programs. Whereas some people make every rep count and push themselves each session, for those people then it's just overcomplicating something simple, ie put in work, get results
@@HappysFunPalace this has also just been one of the gold standards for the fitness industry for a loooong time, mislead people or just overcomplicate shit that could be rephrased in a more applicable way to disorient people, make them rely on you for the "gold advice". this is also why eric is so great for these conversations, because he worked as a trainer himself and has done the whole shtick of doing cognitive laps around people who are asking for it because they doubt your "expertise". people want buzzwords, things that are packaged in a nice pretty, updated way.
