u can easily fish perch with even bigger hooks than this haha, ive caught a couple 2kg/4.4 pound perch here in sweden and they actually eat baits up to 15 cm big.

Imagine if crappie is now call green perch and bluegills are call blue perch. See my point? Yellow perch is too generic. We can't use their scientific name because it's hard to pronounce. I think crappie is a good name. I think Yellow Perch should be given something like goltan. You can say "dude, I catch a goltan". See? Much better.

@@dillanhavard7145 Well considering Victor always uses the right gear and appropriate tackle, I'm inclined to think there was a reason that you're not privy to. He probably used it in a pinch as there was less chance of hooking the fish and just getting bait taking shot, which he mostly goes for. When he's actually deliberately catching perch, he regularly uses a size 6 hook. Watch his other videos.

Dude I fish for perch all the time and this feels almost exactly how it looks. They just hit your bait over and over and over but no matter what you can never get the hook in their mouth. I have a perch in my aquarium too, and he is immensely picky/and observant. He has never even been caught before either.

Those fish probably would've nailed that minnow ,had you made some effort to hide or disguise the hook. Fish are very smart,they can see,hear and even feel your presence. The north American brown trout taught me how to fish lol

The turtles on my personal pond know what bobbers look like, so they swim right up next to them then go down and rip the minners right off the hook, leaving the head. It’s really annoying.

Caught thousands of these growing up on the great lakes in the 60/70's .
We always ran the small hook down through the spine and back up.
In the school they can be rwo at a time and we would fill five gallon buckets.
They were commercially fished back then.
My parents were not rich so it was a extra food supply for us especially in the winter
They're everywhere in Polish lakes. Luckily, they're also tasty. You honestly dont even have to try to catch them usually

The ones in the Great Lakes are not these. These are Perca fluviatalis, the Refin or European Perch. Perca flavesens is the Yellow Perch, found in North America. Closely related but not the same species, the redfin gets a lot bigger and has, as its name suggests, redfins. Similar in habit, but distinctly different species.
New Zealand, like Australia, has large populations descended from those imported at the time of trout and so on also being brought to the Antipodes in the mid 1800s.
