    Hello Pat! I'm a long time viewer and subscriber but this is the first time leaving a comment...I've been a professional Artist since the 70s and have always been passionate about creating abstract figures! I originally started working in Acrylics for many years but have fallen in love with Watercolours the past few years...I just want to tell you just how much you have inspired me and my work! Your intuitive abstract work is absolutely wonderful!! And you are such a fantastic teacher! I find so much joy in watching your videos...unfortunately I am also disabled and have a difficult time with mobility and leaving the house during the Summer heat ...So Art has become my solace and therapy in so many ways! Having yourself and a group of other Artist to follow each week online has been so helpful! So thank you Pat for all that you do! You have helped me and so many others I'm certain in more ways than you realize! God bless...Rus from Bucks County Pennsylvania ❤️🖌🎨🤓😢

      I absolutely love your work! I just found you, and I’m so glad I did. I’ve been teaching myself watercolor. I started in acrylic, and never really got comfortable in it. I think the watercolor has helped with that. Im one of those artists that always thought that I was a failure if it didn’t look “real”. Your style gives me a new energy that I’m hoping to finally find a style.. when I started with watercolor, I was always finding things in my work, like dogs, bugs, trees, etc. I am really looking forward to trying your style. Can you help me in creating the flashes of color, as in the paint that you are carving the figures by making negative spaces? Im working in watercolor, so saving bits and pieces of color would be difficult to create. Would it be a matter of placing patches of color with texture, etc. I don’t want it to look like I’m planning something.. I don’t know if that makes any sense😊 sorry for the novella!

      Hi Rus.. just reading your post as a fellow artist (not professional by any means) and I'm wondering if you have MS (like myself) as you mentioned how the heat affects you. I think you're amazing to do your work from a wheelchair.
      I have learnt to paint with my left hand as my dominant right side has become weak.
      I hope you are well as can be. XxRochelle

      Sometimes setting it aside for a while can be helpful to see that it could be improved. It is also easy to go past the finish line so I tend to let things simmer at the end and hang it in a viewing area.

    Just found you and I love love love this approach. It really loosened me up when I changed direction and created this way. It's such an experience watching it evolve and letting go of so much control. I feel like each piece is a dance. I really like your style. I am inspired by Robert Burridge for the same reasons. Lights my passion right up. That teal is gorgeous. Their cobalt teal is one of my favourites, the other one I love as much is quinacridone nickel azo gold. So sad its discontinued.

    • @pattscrivenerartist
      @pattscrivenerartist  Месяц назад

      Thanks so much. I actually use the teal rather than Cobalt Teal as it is much more cost effective and FYO Golden has a replacement called Azo Gold. There are also formulas to make your own similar colour to Nickel Azo Gold.

    • @JaneofArc
      @JaneofArc Месяц назад +1

      @@pattscrivenerartistI agree and use those same colours for same reason. The ones I mentioned are still favourites, but definitely pricey. I don't use them as much when I am working in layers because a lot will just get covered up in my process. I am enjoying your videos. Thank you for sharing.

I love people in highly textured collages backgrounds… I really loved this one of yours at about the time you were blocking in … without painting every part of the background.. Hi, I am learning from you about "process painting" I did not know there was such a thing. I began teaching myself watercolours in 2021. I started out in live as a child oil painter, at age of 12 I won The best child Oil Painter, that my teacher had entered my work, did not tell me. One prize was a full course at the Chicago Art Museum, which my father enabled, taking me to Chicago. All to say I love watercolors, wanting to achieve a understanding of the rivers-of colors. I from beginning would wait, correct what did not work, erasing, changing, and realized classic painters would not change things, completely a work start to finish. Glad to find you doing what intuitively I developed. I will find your courses, I need-some guidance. thanks

    This is going to sound strange…I absolutely love abstract art (water color, acrylic, gelli plates, and collage) and the barrier I am having is not ever wanting to paint over or cover anything. I can’t make sense of it.
    Right now I’m working on making a couple of similar pieces
    and if I feel like I
    totally ruined the original (and I always feel that way😅) I have another to original admire.

    I loved watching this and hearing you describe your thinking within the process. How long did this painting take and did you let some of these areas of paint dry completely within that time? It’s hard to tell from a compressed video.
    I have an issue with my acrylic paint drying on the palette and not applying as buttery as your does in this demonstration. What is your secret to accomplishing this buttery consistency.
    BTW, I love this painting. I just found your videos and I’m thinking you are one of my fav artist! I wish I had your talent! 😍

    • @pattscrivenerartist
      @pattscrivenerartist  2 месяца назад +1

      I did this painting as a workshop demonstration on intuitive figures so it was painted over a couple of days. It would have have been drying between layers. I keep my paints in a stay wet palette with blue shop towels as the base rather than the sponge and use white waxed freezer paper on top of it and for mixing. You can also add a small amount of acrylic retarder to slow down drying. I seldom use it myself.
