4/2023.........My people, my generation. I didn't attend,....but I have this place and time in my heart, forever. I'm 69,...and have always lived a "Woodstock" inspired lifestyle. I was able to become an artist, (I had a god given talent), and I followed my dreams and was successful. Thank you for sharing your wonderful life story.
For this man and many other people of his age their Woodstock story is the most amazing of all and we should appreciate that considering how awesome that concert was. He even found the love of his life there, so he should be the happiest man on earth :D Why are there negative comments here :( This makes me sad...
Summer of '69 I was a conscientious objector, drafted and was trained as an Army medic & sent to Vietnam. I was 19, my wife was 18. Met her at love-in in Griffith Park. Consequently - that was a very different time for us 2 kids. There were 2 versions of C.O.'s - perform national service as a civilian (need much religious affiliation) ; or agree to 2 years in the Army, and be trained as a combat medic and serve without carrying a weapon. There were many of us C.O. medics in Vietnam....and a couple were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
This is amazing.. Back in 1969 i was only 14 and didnt know , where US is .. except when my father listning news on Radio.. & told us that an American name Armstrong has landed on moon.. in 1972 i entered college. in mid 70s i met hippies , in Peshawar ( They were on hippies trail & were on there way to India). so i was influened by them.. then i did my master in Economics in 1977 & joined a Bank.. served there for 38 years , but all those years , Hippies culture on my mind.. But when got retired the world has changed. I tried my best to find some hippi , but could not.. travelled the whole Pakistan .. in search of hippies.. but failed.. now i feel my career has oblitarated my passion..😢😓

Great story I wish I could have been there but I was only one year old. I hope to make it to 50th Woodstock reunion this year In Watkin Glen NY this year.

We were stuck on the highway coming home after hours we got going again got home and watched it on TV then my Neighbors came back and told my father they smoked pot and liked it

Even Truer 5yrs later!! .....Covid really brought out the crazy in everyone (in many different ways). & now, in a LOT of ways (Both in N.America & around the world), things have seemingly gone crazy. It's like we forget how to communicate with each other like we did B4 Covid. A couple yrs of not spending time with others (or not many) & not really having a choice about it for so long sure changed the way the world "works.". Just School & working from home changed many things & messed up normal socal needs & development. I can't imagine even meeting ONLINE at this point!!
I was 11 in 69 & saw Woodstock in a theater in Chicago. But the 60s sort of molded me as a child that created a peace loving anti establishment 53 year old woman I am now. Your right on about Sly & the Family Stones I want to take you Higher song because it did take you to a higher sence what life should be about!
For more good Woodstock stories read Woodstock Revisited edited by Susan Reynolds. One of the stories is about/by Pam Crowe who is/was pictured in the 1969 Life magazine special issue. Every time I look at her, my crush is rekindled. Look up her pic and you will agree that she is what Woodstock dreams are made of.
Everything about this blonde woman is beautiful, especially her smile with her perfect teeth. And I'm sure she's a good personality too. Only the beautiful ones.
The real greatest Woodstock story ever told. I used to work with a guy who went to the Woodstock thing. When he got home on Monday morning after the show was over, he found his draft notice waiting for him. Within a year he was in Viet Nam. Funniest thing about it was he stayed in the army for 20 years after, becoming a career man and an MP, and was even in the reserves long enough to go to Kuwait in 1991.
Many good kids went to Vietnam Nam. Some out of a sense of loyalty and honor. That's why I never agreed with the treatment they received and joined The Patriot Guard Motorcycle Group years later.

An American cultural milestone(d) Like a bottle of vintage wine, time makes it taste better even though he still didn't get over the smell... Still there was something going on back then. Maybe it really was peace and love ? Nice to hear there's a couple that made it while so many no longer believe in the flower power.
Glad to hear you found true love at the festival, or least because of it. I have a similar story - two of my relatives got engaged at the festival. (They already knew each other beforehand, if you are curious.) Sadly, they didn't make it in the long run, but they did remain married for a long time. Surely the shared memory of Woodstock helped with that.

I clearly remember (that in itself is remarkable) that smell you mention. I worked Woodstock 69 for Rolling Stone Magazine. It was a time Pearl and made up and we were an item again. Plus I tried to keep my friend (Abby Hoffman) from going on stage and making a fool of himself. He was high on Acid and since I couldn't stop him Pete Townsend roughed him up and we got him off stage...But I do have a ton of stories I could share.
I was there... Some of my buddies and I decided the night before and we just went. I got there just in time to see the tall chain link fence go down...! I soon took a job selling hot dogs at a concession... all the food was gone in one hour. I made a small pay check for that. I saw a friend from my home town, Steven Tallerico who you will know as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith fame... He was in a very bad condition, if you know what I mean. The crowd continued to swell. I ran into a previous girlfriend and her sister who put me up in their tent. I stayed two or three days on then bummed a ride back to Westchester. I noticed a professional photographer on the stage take a shot in my direction just before I left and when the TIME Magazine special came out in December, spotted my distant image although without enough facial details to convince anyone but myself. Patrick Colucci and I are both from the same place almost, Terrytown and Yonkers border each other along the Hudson River, he's two years younger than me.

Seems like it was fate, cuz why didn't you crawl up the side of the road on your bike before Marie had mentioned it..ya know? Being a wee pup, the closest I came to Woodstock was seeing the centre fold in Mad Magazine honouring the concert..the whole 2 pages were a cartoon drawing of Woodstock ..oh and of course my big brothers Woodstock Live album. I listened to it till he took it away from me..lol

I went to the Wodstock museum in Bethel in October it was GREAT! I saw the plaque he's stand by too :)

Yeah they tried Woodstock in the 90s but... it was a nightmare for many. We need our own Woodstock in this time. Perhaps it will be done on Skype.
