- I'm finally back with some heavy stuff : the billion view video from Ed Sheeran, Shape of You.
I found out about this song about a week ago (I know, I'm pretty uncultured when it comes to pop music) but I fell in a pretty weird love with it, and three days later I started the cover. I made this in those past few days and I'm pretty happy with the result : it stays true to the original while giving it a new life, more powerful, gracious and epic.
I do hope that you all enjoy it even though it's pretty part from what I'm used to do, but I'll probably do some more pop music in the futur, mostly depending on how this one is received.

Nerd Burger I actually like the original, and I normally don't give a shit about mainstream music, unless you count Two Steps From Hell as mainstream. I don't know why that is but I like it.
Which is made even stranger by me being the "shut up and let the instruments do the work" type in 99% of cases (the Bloodboure soundtrack is the big exception, but even then it's in Latin). But the original seems to break that rule as well, if it was instrumental it feels like it would be too weak, the lyrics add something and don't feel tacked on (which is why TLB's Megalovania remix I feel is not very good, they didn't need to be there), I might have to reevaluate my views as a result.
This remix though is outstanding, I missed it until today, either it slipped past me or it didn't show up in my feed because I 'hide' the videos that I've watched or because RUclips is broken (I'm leaning towards the later as there are series that I actively don't watch that still show up). Shame as this is probably going to be in my top ten remixes of 2017 at this rate.
I don't know. Maybe it is because it was so mainstream.
As great as the song is, I felt it was forced down my throat by everyone around me when it first came out.
If i'd discovered it on my own ore by someone else's suggestion instead of terrible carpool karaoke, I may have perceived it a bit different.
Another thing is the lyric content. It felt kind of... empty.
Now when I hear it I imagine a ballad with an acoustic guitar under a lover's balcony. But when I first heard it in-between justin bieber and kendrick lamar I thought it sounded no different.
I like this one better because of the scale. I love a bit of scale. The layers you always hear in TLB's work feel like a cathedral performance. The short hand, that's why I like it.
Nerd Burger I don't listen to the radio so I never heard of it until I discovered this. Partially why I feel that it might be weak without the lyr8cs because that chill style isn't usually my type of music, I might be wrong there as I went off of my gut feeling then rather than some actual metric of quality.
I'll say this though, this version is I'd say on par with the original if not a bit better. I have to agree with what you said about this version about the grad scale, TLB's Bring Me to Life remix is another great example of this.

That feeling of grand scale is actually one of my favorite things in song and that's why I try to incorporate it in my songs. It's kinda become a key part of my style by now and I'm totally ok with it and happy to know that there are people like you who are ready to listen to it :D

It's mostly because of my program, Garageband doesn't like big orchestras and I have to lower the volume so that it doesn't clip
