Dev here! Thanks for checking out the demo and for the commentary and feedback! Much of your feedback has been addressed already since this demo's last update, but I wanted to address some of your points: - Crates are decorative and provide temporary cover in many areas, and putting a collectible in each one (or some of them) creates tedium where players feel they have to take the time to break every box, or else they're missing out on content. If you're creating a collectathon type game, then having uniform containers (like ? blocks in Mario) makes sense - but in this case, the crates are contextual (found in cult camps, and this truck depot) and won't appear in every single location. - There is a quick melee button - Q by default for a kick. It isn't a major damage dealer but is used as a utility to stun enemies and create space in encounters where you need to reload or such - The design philosophy behind the visuals is intended to emulate games made using old engines and map editors. Things that would require skinned meshes and rigs (enemies mainly) use 2D sprites. Things that could realistically easily be modeled using a map editor (Trees, boulders, doors, etc.) get simple 3D meshes. Complex models that couldn't realistically be done in a map editor (excavators, trucks, corpses, etc.) are portrayed as voxels. The visuals aren't targeting any one particular era or game or style, but moreso are aimed to emulate a game that was made in an older engine that didn't have a fancier editor like Unity/UE with the capability to have animated models. That being said, the visual limitations are not extended to gameplay elements, hence why there is dynamic lighting, physics, realtime shadowing, etc. - The voxel tent is just a mistake - they should all be simple meshes but I missed a couple - whoops!
@@josedorsaith5261 Yeah, after playing the Demo I found out it's the middle mouse button to throw. Completely useless though, unless you land a head shot. Nice that you can go and pick them up again.
Now I need to play this. Chairs can be grabbed to make your way up to things. I believe I saw something on the ceiling when you were grabbing that chair lol 6:10
I always love burning the Cultists in Blood with flares, because once you stick them with a flare, they start rambling in their language, before bursting into flames and yelling "OH GOD IT BURNS"
I'm super looking forward to this game. I loved the demo and an't wait to play the whole thing. Between this one, Graven and Wrath: Eon of Ruin, 2022 might be pretty good for us boomer shooter fans.
The design is all over the place. On one hand you have voxel-like models like the trucks, bodies and furniture, then, 3d meshes like the crates, trees, and then 2d planes for the character and dead bodies. And advanced lightinh for the flames of the molotov cocktail. It's like they had entirely different people working on the game, unrelated. Love the gameplay, not the all over the place visuals.
One hell of a first impression, it certainly sold me with those crunchy voxels alone! For a recommendation, I'd say give Signal Lost a try! It's a standalone Half-Life mod on MODDB emulating the games 1997 Beta while absolutely nailing it's own unique aesthetic and the first Chapter was released last year! I also beta tested it but that's besides the point ;) Another one would be Ashes: 2063, a post-apocalyptic FPS built on the GZDoom engine and it just got it's second Episode release. One of the vehicles is straight up a giant mutant Froggie with his own saddle, it's amazing!
What i like so far from Cultic is despite its clear visual influences of boomer shooters, it mechanically reminds me a lot more of half life. Its got this more crunchy, boots on the ground approach that been missing from the some of the boomer shooter revival.
There will probably be money in the crates since you didn't find any and they have the counter at the bottom. Its probably not in there since there aren't any shops in it.
Want to check out the 1997 classic, Blood? That's right here! ➤ ruclips.net/video/wNp7KYcURRU/видео.html

Thanks Jason! I did record this a month ago, and figured some things were gonna be adressed. Cant wait for the full game!
Looking forward to the full release! Keep up the great work
Nice reply! Gotta disagree about the tedium/fomo of opening boxes, but it's your vision! Keep up the stellar work!
"The typewriter is just the toilet for the hands" -Matt McMuscles
Ernest Hemingway would probably agree with this.
the toilet is just the typewriter for the butt
Glad I'm not the only one who struggled with the dynamite, that Blood muscle memory is strong, haha.
The Hatchet had "ammo". It showed he had 4, so it must be both a melee, and throwable, weapon.
Aye, the cultists are even seen throwing them at you.
It is throwable. Does pretty well for headshots, too

This really hits the feels, I played Blood when it was first released. Thanks for sharing, I'm really looking forward to this.

Ohh yeah....VERY satisfying
This game lacks an insane cackle when you blow things up and light enemies on fire, but otherwise this looks good.
I will say it's kind of distracting that the pre-existing dead bodies are 3D models but the enemies are 2D.
Original Shadow Warrior was awesome

3D Realms basically wants to own the Blood IP
I've been playing Dusk and Amid Evil recently so I'm definitely excited to pick this up.
3D realms? :o Damn I'll have to look into this. They were pretty much my childhood.
Played the demo for this ages ago, it's amazing!
Civvie 11 sounds weird in this playthrough video.
I'm super looking forward to this game. I loved the demo and an't wait to play the whole thing.

Those shotgun shells are tickling my sense memories for the original Turok. And yeah, I'd love to have little +2 health things in a few of the crates!

Definitely adding this to the collection when it hits full release.
Phenomenal looking demo, all things considered. Really looking forward to seeing this in its finished form.
I have been looking forward to this game for a while now and seeing you play it increased my desire to play it for myself! I love games in this style
glad you did a new game I haven't heard of yet and now that I had I will check it out
3:03 it’s called a non-fungible token actually

That music keeps ringing Golden eye bells in my head
"Maranax infirmux"!
Nothing can replace the original Blood.
As long as these neo-retro shooters keep coming out, I'll keep buying them.
I like how you can barely see the enemy eyes but a head shot explodes and 2 huge orange sized eyeballs are there hahaha
i probably wont play this but i always watched you guys to play games i never wanted to buy but wanted to see played
Looks really cool!
CULTIC is clearly the love child to Blood and RE4!

I'm quite a few videos behind, so apologies if this is old news, but that new intro is slick as *fuck*.
money could be in the boxes.
This is dope looking
I could see a Crash Bandicoot-like counter for boxes destroyed per level as a fun metric to add.
Good video as always
It looks interesting.
On this episode Matt fucking obliterates the Aum Shinrikyo death cult
I played it like 3 times. This is going to be awesome.
This is beautiful...
looks pretty cool, funny enough i said it looks like it plays well the same time Matt said it plays well.
looks good
Are smacks upside the butt still available? If so, I want to tell you you'll be doing exactly this in 2022
Well, what can i say about that one except...
_MARANAX INFIRMUX_
Now that's pretty gamer!
Playthrough! Playthrough!
PRO CULTIC WHEN MATT?
It looks so painfuly slow... Caleb could crouch-run laps around this Cultic-guy. :x

Never thought I would hear “garbage voxels” ha ha
Nice
Play Arthurian Legends, it's a good retro style game, more of a Hexen style tho
Broomhandle, sten gun.. Just when does this game take place?
I have played way too much of this demo.
the fire looks better than halo infinites does
Is it me or have they changed the darker visuals it used to have?
"Take that you Jpeg!" 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
What a about this Street fighter the movie the game
Huh?
Should have been called Street Fighter: The Cash Grab
Am I the only one who noticed that the commentary was slightly ahead on the gameplay?
Just downloaded the demo, this game is SO chunky
Chunky like my mum
Dope
Broomhandle Mauser. Or a chinese knockoff, but still.
All voxel artist end up working in the Minecraft mines or the sandbox mines. One is worse than the other.
Manamax andspearbooks.
3D Realms...still around??? And they made a decent game somehow NOT mired in development hell???
why does youtube say this game is half-life ?
For the next worst fighting game can you capcom fight Evolution
Not nearly bad enough for this show
I'm pro weak felling weapons
