just a couple 'fun' little facts:
Jason is Bruce's first adopted son, Dick wasn't officially adopted until he was an adult
. Jason was the golden child of the robins, Dick, Tim and Damien all came with challenges, had their own problems, but Jason was just happy to be there
. Batman's biggest fear according to the Scarecrow Toxin was Jason's death, and even years after he came back, was still his biggest regret
. Alfred once said that Jason's death hit Bruce worse than even his parents', because he had the power to stop it this time
. in the comics, when Jason was revived, despite having no memories at all, he still called out for Bruce
    and last of all...

Somewhat right but Jason was never adopted as a son rather as a ward like Dick, Tim would be the first to be adopted as a son and for a brief period was Tim Wayne and was the heir to the Wayne fortune much to Damien’s dismay. Jason was not considered the golden child of Robins that would go to either Dick or Tim, Dick for his optimism despite his origin and Tim for his cunning and detective skills. Jason was more the spoiled child, a reaction on Bruce’s behalf to the firing of Dick. It’s why Jason got away with murder while he was Robin despite Bruce knowing what happened. That is if post crisis continuity even counts these days.

The Joker is voiced by John DiMaggio (Bender, Jake the Dog, Marcus Fenix, etc.) in this film, and his performance is one my favorite animated Joker interpretations. I actually prefer him to Troy Baker's Joker, because instead of trying to impersonate Mark Hamill he does his own thing. That's not to say he doesn't do a good job, but I can *_always_* tell when it's him and not the "real deal", and then I just end up thinking to myself: how would Mark Hamill have handled that line differently? The reason Jason returned “damaged” is a couple of things. One, the longer someone is dead the less whole their mind will be when brought back. Two Ra’s can take it because he’s done it for 500 years, Jason was new so there were some unforeseen consequences. That combination of reasons made him mad. Of course time healed his mind but by that time it was too late. He was angry, angry for dying, angry at Joker, angry at Bruce, and angry for being forgotten. He knew what he had to do, what Batman couldn’t.

Bruce as a child was a afraid of bats, and there for chose to embrace he fear to use as a weapon against his enemies. Jason chose to take on a mantel that was once worn by the man who murdered him. Something that he fears, for as much as he hates the joker, the clown still haunts Jason's nightmares. Jason is also taking his fear and turning it into a weapon. The same logic as his old man.

Jason Todd as Red Hood is really interesting...because it's a direct response to people saying that Gotham is as bad as it is BECAUSE Batman won't kill...because he lets people get out of Arkham to chase them down and kill more innocents. It's so interesting to see them tackle that.

Punisher kills but what does he change? he kills yet it does absolutely nothing, if punisher’s method works then why does he keep killing? nah killing solves absolutely nothing there is always someone else to kill, people have killed since the beginning of time what did it change up to today? Punisher is one of my favorite comic book characters but not cause I agree with him, he is 100% wrong and if he is roght why doesn’t he want anyone to follow in his footsteps? Killing someone doesn’t fix what they’ve done and only shows your morals were lowered by said person in this case the joker. Batman vs joker is like a metaphor for good vs evil. The joker wants to show people are inherently wicked just like him and Batman who like robin stated has every reason to turn wicked but by being the bigger person shows the joker after everything Batman still has his morals. Which is what hes fighting for in the first place. He is an instrument for the good of humanity. Once a person thinks they can play god and become the one who decides who can die or live they have lost trust in humanity which is what evil wants in the end.

This is a very short version of it, but this is easily the best DC animated film. Jason goes on to be an anti-hero and then welcomed back into the bat-family eventually in the comics, but he’s not in anymore animated movies I think.
The original comic where Jason dies is called “Death in the Family”. The movie is like an interactive DVD, and you can choose alternate paths to see alternate endings to this story, but they were all made for the movie. I think the inscription on Jason’s memorial in the Cave perfectly sums up why he has such an issue with Bruce. “A good soldier.”
Not “A good son.” Not “Jason.” Not even “Robin.” Just “A good soldier.” Because ultimately, that’s how Bruce defaults to seeing and treating people, even those closest to him. As soldiers in his endless, doomed war to right enough wrongs that somehow his parents’ death won’t hurt so much.

What I love about the interactive movie is if you just watch the recap of Under The Red Hood with Bruce monologuing, the writers decided to rectify the “good soldier” by having Bruce continuously call Jason “son” throughout the entire thing.
I know fans like to say that Bruce has a favorite and 90% of them say it’s either Tim, Damian or Dick. But honestly I think it’s Jason. You can even go back to old comics and Bruce is just so openly loving and fatherly towards Jason. Like there is a reason why Jason’s death shattered Bruce so much, why he was even willing to to kill Joker if Superman hadn’t stopped him and it’s cuz Bruce deeply loved Jason and I love that the interactive movie shows that side of Bruce

He sounded like Kevin Conroy yet he made it his own. John DiMaggio as Joker is in my top 3 voices of the character next to Troy Baker & Mark Hamill. Neil Patrick Harris as Nightwing was fitting because he voiced Spidey once and both are wise crackers. A good adaption of the Red Hood storyline. In the comics, Bruce & Jason did eventually made amends and Jason became a ally to the Bat Family & fall under the anti hero category because he still kills people depending if they deserve it. ^^ Now you’ve met three of the four main robins which leaves one more which I know you’ll meet one day. ☺️

Jensen Ackles gives such an INCREDIBLE performance as Jason. Yeah, he's the "villain" of the movie, but really this story is about his trauma and heartbreak, and how it isn't compatible with Bruce's, and what a tragedy that is. The look on Jason's face when Bruce won't go along with his little setup really shows how desperate he is for his dad to take care of him. Despite his ultimatum, Jason DOESN'T shoot the Joker. More than anything else, he wanted Bruce to do it. He wanted to feel like Batman cared about him, cared when he died. And asking for that, and getting a "no", hurts him more than anything else.

As a huge DC Batman fan, I think you’re pretty spot on with Bruce’s savior complex, at least in this iteration, because of his success with Dick Grayson. Dick turned out well enough considering everything he went through, he’s the success story of Batman but Jason is the failure of Batman’s watch and care. Early on in the comics, there were no real distinctions between Jason and Dick from a character personality perspective, but now with his evolution into Red Hood that it turns it into a kind of meta narrative, the story within the story, being how in trying to make Jason into Dick, he failed him and through an indirect method caused Jason to become the Red Hood. I also wanna briefly mentioned how this story started this idea that Jason had a dark side to him in his days as robin when that originally wasn’t the case, it’s just a way to justify how Jason could’ve turned into this and although it’s a deviation the effort is appreciated in trying to make this story whole along with several other changes that genuinely make better sense than how it originally happened in the comics.

It's interesting for me to see how people react to these stories who didn't grow up with them. That's an experience I don't have, because by the time I was four, I was hooked. 30 years later, still hooked. Just a couple points that I think deserve consideration.
"I didn't kill him, because it would be too easy."
When Batman's code/ "one rule" of not killing comes up, it is framed as him not killing because murder is unethical. On it's own, that's a good reason not to murder people. That said, talking in terms of what is moral versus immoral is by its very nature a broad concept. To be more specific in reference to Batman, he doesn't kill because it's immoral, and because he knows himself, he knows that if he kills Joker, the killing won't stop there. If he can justify to himself killing the Joker, then what about Two-Face? Riddler? Where is the proverbial line in the sand? Only killing people who have killed other people? What about the dealers that sell drugs that people overdose on and die? Does the dealer deserve to die? What about the people that actually manufactured the drugs? If they hadn't made it, the person that overdosed wouldn't be dead, Batman wouldn't have killed the dealer, so really all those deaths are because of the people that made the drugs in the first place. So, if the line is now killing people for doing things that down the line will get people killed, what about pharmaceutical companies? What makes a bank robber that kills someone worse than a cop that kills someone? Does Batman kill the cop? Batman is filled with guilt and rage and is extremely intelligent. He knows if he can justify killing one person, he can justify killing hundreds, maybe thousands of people. He can't cross that line, because he knows he would lose himself in all the death that would come after it.
Batman turning his back to Jason.
That was a deliberate move to get Jason to shoot him. He wasn't turning his back on Jason because he really was ready to write him off and walk away, it was a ploy. That's why Joker has the line "you still figured out a way to win!"

Regarding Batman A Death in the Family, if your going to do that one, it's honestly better to get the DVD. Jason's death in the comic A Death in the Family was the result of a fan vote (my understanding is the writer hated the idea of Robin and wanted to get rid of him to make Batman a solitary predator figure so he started writing Jason in a way he hoped would make readers turn on him and it worked). So the movie was made to honor that event, with various parts where you are given an option to change how the story goes. But the streaming version takes away the interactivity and leaves you with just 3 preset outcomes.
I remember when I first learned they'd brought Jason back I was shocked. It had become a joke among comic fans that Jason's death was one of the few major comic book deaths that stuck, along with Bucky, Uncle Ben, etc. Then he's back. Couldn't get the trades fast enough.

In the comics Jason sought out his mother and revealed who he was, (since he was an orphan living on the streets they hadn't exactly met since she gave him up), unknown to him she was working with the joker, Jason thought she was kidnapped and she lured him into a trap, then the Joker beat the everloving crap out of him with a crowbar and locked him and his mother into a warehouse with a bomb that killed his mother and nearly killed him, he was presumed dead (the lazarus pits don't actually bring people back from the dead, but it heals just about any wound and de-ages you, you also go insane with prolonged use). The joker then became the Iranian UN ambassador which gave him diplomatic immunity forcing Superman to talk Batman down from going to the UN building and outright killing him.
The actual return of Jason as Red Hood was a lot more convoluted involving Hush and Clayface pretending to be an older Jason among other things to screw with batmans mind.

2:05 - "Oh, and she's terribly partial to the periwinkle blue." - Mickey O'Neil [Brad Pitt] from the movie _Snatch_ (2000). Highly recommendable movie.

Jason Todd’s Family is the Wayne Family. Bruce Legally Adopted Jason Todd and Dick Grayson, gave them a formal education and let them graduate to live their own lives.

I think when Batman turns his back on Jason, what he was doing was saying "I won't make this decision. If you do this, you are the one making that choice. I'm not a part of it, and that's not how I raised you." Also, Batman was the best possible parent he could be. Jason was already broken. Dick had a loving family that was killed, and Batman turned him into the most respected hero in the DC universe, both among fans and the characters in the universe. Batman did the best he could... if he had given them to happy, stable families, they would have seethed in their hatred and desire for revenge, and would have fallen into a dark place.
Wonder Woman once accused Batman of trying to turn orphans into him, and his response is "I didn't do it so they would become like me. I did it so they wouldn't." With Dick, it worked. With everyone else in the Bat-Family, it worked. But Jason was already far gone, and then Joker gave him that "one bad day" that sent him over the edge. Lazarus Pits are also known to drive you insane, and they heavily imply that was part of it, but Jason denies that because he's trying to dissociate that there was ever any good in him so he can handwave away the terrible things he's doing.

This movie is a masterpiece. I remember I was 8 when I watched it and after that, I went to the comic section in my library and read under the red hood, death in the family, and a whole bunch of Jason Todd comics. DC has some dark stuff but not that dark tbh. There is some happy fun stuff too.

It wasn't just the fact that Joker killed him. His father was an abusive, drunk criminal and his mother who he was trying to save literally sold him out to the Joker and got him killed. Bruce was basically all Jason had. He never got to see what his death did to Bruce. How he literally went through Superman and said "Fuck your diplomatic immunity" to beat the absolute dogshit out of Joker. He never saw the sheer terror the criminals of Gotham lived in for a good while after his death because Batman was absolutely done with their bullshit. He return to see the wheel spun all the way through. As far as he knew - he died and nothing changed. Losing him didn't affect Bruce at all.
