They played with more heart then any team I’ve ever saw in cbb , not a single player on that team was selfish in the least bit , may never see such a balanced group of role players and no real leader win a chip again and I mean that with the up most respect , I loved the 96&97 teams but them and this squad couldn’t be more different
That game I know. The ups and downs.. the ups and downs we needed that revenge for laettner... I hated Duke for that. We got the best of Duke oh yes we did. Go big blue!
I was 9 Years old and still 1 of my fondest seasons ever. I remember my neighbor won a Duke hat out of 1 of the game with the claw that grabs stuff. Held onto it for the right time and we poured gas on it and burned it before the Elie 8 game. Remember feelin sick like it was over at half time. I believe they were up by almost 30 at 1 point in the first half too. What a team and played gr8 as 1 unit with needed contributions from everyone, even guys like evans, mills, magloire comin off the bench knew they're role and executed.
That was best coaching season I've ever seen. Tubby outcoached everyone at the tourneys. Team never quit, and still to this day. Greatest coaching season I've ever saw. Tubby was a genius in those games, he knew they wouldn't quit, and his subbing was best ever, look how many kids he moved around at times. Look how he played mills.. Evan's, magloire, saw, he constantly was moving pieces. Teams couldn't adjust. I watched a team, on defense, that had more steals for dunks than ever before. They were so in tune, with their i.q. They were waiting for plays by other teams. Best Kentucky season in history of school. Most fun to watch, this is my favorite team of all. Mohammed played so huge. Padg. Was deadly,
Tubby was amazing on the x and o side especially on defense but i feel like he couldn't keep up with the recruiting especially at a school like Kentucky.

I was in middle school during that 3 year run the cats had in 96 97 98. I loved the '98 title team, such great memories and it wasn't expected. They just kept coming after you on offense and defense.
This wasn't the most talented Kentucky team to ever win the title by any means. But, this team had great chemistry, they played well together as a unit, and no matter what the deficit may have been they fell behind by they always played like they knew a run would come at some point that would put them right back in the game with a chance to win. How many Duke teams during March Madness that made it the point they did in 1998 (Elite 8) or beyond can anyone ever remember blow a 17-point lead with 9-1/2 minutes left under Coach K in a game of that magnitude? I can't remember one. GO CATS!!
In spite of Tubby??? His decision making and substitutions that entire tourney were excellent. Tubby was famous for late game timeouts, but when Duke desperately needed one, he just hung them out to dry.
Tubby was amazing with the X's and O's and could teach defense as good as any coach on the planet. His problem was not being able to recruit and when he did land top talent he had issues developing them. The run from 03-05 to me was his best recruiting wise but just couldn't get them back over the hump.
Beating that great Duke team to get to the final four was almost as good as it gets and it eased the pain of 1992.
What an incredible run this 1998 Kentucky team went on, No quit whatsoever, They were indeed the "Comeback Cats"!
This was my favorite team ever at uk, they just wouldn't quit. That's what I love about them

I was at that final against Utah. Loved that team!
I'll never forget watching that duke game. I've never been so nervous in my life.

@ 3:00 is one of my favorite moments of watching Tubby Smith. Total joy!

Watch this 2022 team. It could win it all. It has the chemistry and the components to cut down the nets come April, 2022.
So hype. Great team
I needed 2 c this again BigBlu 4ever
This was Tubby Smith's first year as the UK mens' basketball coach.
Won the natty by remembering what they learned from pitino and in spite of tubby in my opinion. Mills was huge in this one. My fav ky team

@@mikemartin5749 ill go even further and say i’m not sure pitino wins it with that team.
Though it was ricks team, Tubby still earned that title. Deservedly so tubby is great man.
