The reason for the 8 hex oil plug is for at least two reason the first it’s much easier for assembly during engine manufacturing. It is also lower profile and less likely to be damaged. The recessed oil filter is also to prevent damage and to keep the engine looking better. As for oil capacity, the larger capacity is a bonus in keeping the oil slightly cooler and helping to dilute byproducts of combustion.
Job varies based on your situation. It could be a lot easier. Very little room under there and not the easiest bike to get off the ground with room to work. My old T100 I was comfortable with a flat jack, but the new t120 I only trust forks and frame only supports front end. I suppose I could find the right oil dish somewhere, but it's such a mess when you screw up with 1 inch to get your hands. I have an ibeam in my garage and I actually use 2 ibeam hooks and ratchet straps to lift back end.
Excellent job of showing the 8mm Allen Key needed to loosen the drain plug. If there's no centerstand, use a board under the sidestand to make the cycle vertical. I ordered a Triumph oil filter removal and fitting tool from eBay Commerce. A PRO BIKE TOOL 3/8 Inch Drive Click Torque Wrench Set can be set to 10 Nm to tighten the oil filter and 25Nm to tighen the oil drain plug accurately.
They sell a third party oil filter wrench specifically made for the Triumph oil filter at Ottawa Goodtime Centre for about $9. The Triumph branded one is about $30 more. @@bloeski
A recessed oil filter and oil drain bolt make sense, as they are less likely to get bunged up ny rocks and other debris. You can purchase a Triumph Oil filter wrench that fits the oil filter. Of course, having a decent motorcycle lift helps with this kind of chore..helps to minimize/prevent bitching.😊
The most impressive part of this video is how calm and unstrained you sound while hand tightening the slippery oil filter. I definitely would have slipped, banged my hand, cut my knuckles on something and cursed a few times. Anyway, bravo, and thanks for the video.
Great video! the oil filter isn’t that easy to access indeed on this model compared to other bikes, it was such a hassle to remove it… Is that an oem crash bar? Looks so good!

I didn’t get tool set with my 2022 Bonneville T 100? Should it come with it? Also Triumph offers an oil filter removal wrench.
And it’s still a pain in the ass!
Old oil looked good.
Lot of complaining for a very easy job. Gloves also help keep oil off the hands...
Gloves sure do help....Thanks for watching.

Smart that the entire jobs under the bike so you don’t make a mess on the bike
I normally prefill the new oil filter before screwing on to the bike, same with cars if its vertical.

To remove and install the oil filter, get the oil filter wrench that you can clip on your torque wrench. Triumph SKU T3880313. Enjoy!
I will look for one of those for next oil change......Thanks for watching.

Where can I order that compression ring? I am looking online and cant quite seem to find that piece.. any recommendations or links? thank you!
A well stocked motorcycle shop should have compression rings.
You do moan a lot about everything 😂
Very helpful video, showing the difficulties as well as the easy parts. I appreciate your time in making and posting it!
Is it ok to reuse the o-ring?

Haha, let the drain plug finish its work and the filter won’t dump oil all over you.

Its is good practice to fill the oil filter with oil before installing.
