12:35 "YOU ADD NOTHING TO THE PLOT!" Actually true. For the 10th anniversary, there was a series of interviews with the head writer Kazutaka Kodaka. When asked about the Monokubs, he said they weren't in the game's original script, however he was asked to include more Monokuma like characters. He obliged, but he also said, paraphrasing, "if you skip all of their dialogue you don't miss anything important". They literally don't matter. At least their theme is a banger tho.

I actually think it contributes to the overall theme of this being a show within a game. The Monokubs very likely existed in a previous killing game and had more relevance there but they just kept coming back because of their marketability, acting as more of this game’s commentary on the entertainment industry as a whole because that kind of shit happens all the time
It's very much like a sitcom introducing a new character like a random annoying cousin to shake up the formula a little. By the time you've reached the 53rd season of something, you're bound to have jumped the shark at some point, and the Monokubs are a perfect example of it

Idk if it was the third or fourth trial, but it force closed the app three times immediately before intermission. These trials are so goddamn long, I almost quit the game after the last time.

Technically Rantaro had plot armor in his previous killing game, being the Ultimate Survivor. His plot armor privileges were revoked between killing games.
Rantaro may not have been giving her quite as much brainrot as Nagito but you gotta respect how little screentime he needed to do it
Regardless of what people think of V3 and the ending (which I personally liked) we can all at least bond over our hatred for the Monokubs

I didn't find any of them annoying but I have a high tolerance for annoying things I guess. Fi and navi in Zelda never bothered me either. Also the music when the kubs show up is so good so I just jammed to that

While some of Tsumugi's lines were a bit overkill,
The ending itself is good imo.
I think that the polarization of the ending is what makes it so genius. It’s just the right amount of controversial to make half the fandom hate it but no more than that. It’s juuuuust right to get people to argue with each other, to bicker and throw hate, and some might eventually wonder “hey… are we no better than the audience in the game?”
I actually love the ending because it's neat twist, comments a lot about developers' ideas for the franchise in both positive and negative way as well as overall fandom culture. Also unlike many people think the message is that previous games don't matter, game pretty clearly states that fiction can mean to people as much as reality and it's very valid.

I played the Switch version, the final trial absolutely throttled it at points. It was my only way to play it tho, as the Steam version did not work for me (couldn't open the menu at all during gameplay, thus I couldn't save when I wanted to)

While I was playing my theory was that he was specifically designed after Naegi to act as his surrogate to ensure hope thrived in the group even if Naegi couldn't be there himself

I personally liked this ending a LOT. And the reason I like it is because I went into this game being told it had no connection to Danganronpa 1, 2, UDG, and 3, and chose to continue believing that.
In other words, just because the Danganronpa series is "fake" in the world of Danganronpa V3, doesn't mean it was fake in the main 3 games and anime. V3 is more like an alternate universe than an actual continuation of the other games. To that end, V3 is a really fun and interesting "what if" scenario.
Im really glad you ended up liking this game, a lot of people hated it when it came out but personally I love the ending with Kodaka sorta saying "So like the whole reason these games exist is because YOU all want more entertainment, more despair, and more hope" its such a interesting message to use for the game and honestly a really great way to end the series. And if Kodaka does ever re-visit DR he can EASILY make the previous seasons of killing games, imagine playing as Rantaro and seeing his previous game. I think that would be cool even if we know what happens to him in the end.
The game's message isn't even that negative. I think the audience doesn't represent irl fandom, just the idea of what some extreme fans could do, same goes for Tsumugi. To me, the game's message is that the developers are thankful for their fans, especially how massive the series became (as it started from rather niche JP-only series, now having worldwide localization), but as the series goes on, they feel hard to create something new without being held back by the first two games. So if they're going to do new Danganronpa, they should be free to do it without relying to previous installments.

I mean, this might be just me, but I find that whenever games/shows/whatever go super meta to try and "call out" their audience, it tends to come off as hypocritical and, usually, downright condescending. Like, what is consuming media supposed to say about us that creating the media in the first place doesn't say about you? The condescending factor is also amplified by all the fans who say I don't "get" the ending, too.
That's a really fair and great take on the ending. I found the ending as sort of ambiguous. Sort of playing with the idea that the first 2 games could be "real" or not.
With the theories that came out before the game's release that the world had fully fell into despair, so maybe history was altered, but wanting to keep things interesting they started the death games. The first 2 games could be retellings to make it seem fictional. The outside world kinda seems like a fusion of Junko and Nagito.

She really went through the 5 stages of grief when Rantaro died, and exactly the same process as Sera, aka went through the stage of denial, and stayed on that stage for most (if not the entirety) of the game.
Man I can believe that Sayaka was the mastermind and Leon, Nagisa and Chiaki lived!!!

This game was definitely the biggest emotional roller coaster of the entire series. From the meaner brutal executions, plot twists ,the trolling Monokubs, and many other things

Zero Escape trilogy is one of my favorite VNs in terms of great narrative and mindfck plot twists and i find it way better than Danganronpa. I haven't yet played AI Somnium Files but heard great things about it.
@@soulscyther666 In a lot of ways I agree. I just recently finished ZTD and to be honest I think I like it better than VLR. Great trilogy and if you loved Zero Escape you'll absolutely adore AI. It's very much so cut from the same cloth as that series. Lots of little nods to it and such.

The plot twist about the end of the game and how us the fans saying how we no longer want anymore killing games, then they release Danganronpa 4 Ultimate Summer Camp really feels poetic.
Like, after 3 installments we no longer want teenagers killing each other, and want them instead to be happy and get along, so we get a totally different game to give these fictional characters happiness instead of despair
and then we say that it sucks. because we all know that one sucks a load of ass.

My head cannon has always been that DR and SDR2, along with UDG and the DR3 anime exist on their own universe as itself.
Then V3 is a different universe similar to us, where the first universe was a work of fiction.
There's no proof for this, but there's no proof that says otherwise, its left to how the player wants to see it and that's the angle ive taken.
Mostly because V3 its clearly made to criticize the consumer's demanding need for more of the same.

That's basically what the game itself says? This is a universe like our own, where danganronpa is a game and anime franchise, where it got so far it went to it's 53rd entry and was still reusing all the same tropes and trotting out lame ideas like the monokubs all for despair entertainment.
This is actually the case. Kodaka said in a post that DV3 takes place in a different continuity from the first two

crystaahl! congratulations on finishing the danganronpa series. it's been a lot of fun watching the vods, as well as the highlights! huge shoutout to deena for compiling some of the best/hilarious moments from the streams, her editing style works really well with your commentary (and honestly, she went above with this one w/the sprites + text + graphics etc).
i haven't had a chance to comment on the other DR vids, but i wanted to say that i really enjoyed watching the danganronpa content for the past four months. danganronpa is a series i vaguely knew about in 2016, but i never really had a chance to properly experience it for myself, so i appreciate getting to see how you experienced the games! your journey with nagito in SDR2 was thoroughly entertaining; i'm honestly amazed that you never got spoiled about him since he kind of floats around the internet as a huge meme...? but i'm glad you could have an authentic experience w/him, it definitely helped me appreciate his character more!
i also enjoyed seeing the rantaro theories from this game as well! i ended up gravitating to him too, so it was a joy to see you enjoy rantaro despite his rather limited screentime. your off the wall theories will always give me so many laughs, even if they may not come to fruition. it was lots of fun seeing your passion for his character in this game!

I'm sure a lot of people have already explained this, but in case no one has:
The "outside world" in V3 is not the same as our world. V3 isn't the video game you're playing, it's more like a cross between Hunger Games and Truman Show. V3's fourth wall just leads to another fictional world, in which all humanity craves the killing game, and in which the other Danganronpa games and anime exist, exactly as they do in this world. V3 and at least some of the other 50 killing games were inspired by the rest of the Danganronpa story, but carried out using the brainwashed bodies of "real" people. So the mastermind isn't actually Twitch chat, it's a dystopia.
...Or maybe you totally understood that and I'm missing the joke. Sorry if that's the case.
I'm pretty sure it's a bit most streams of this game make the joke the twitch chat is those people and chat plays along with it honestly would not be surprised if it was at least a little intentional because the comments flying across the screen can only come from a live stream chat
I like that this is ambiguous tho bc there’s a lot of details that are just flat out wrong or don’t make sense. Example Kaede and Shuichi were kidnapped at the beginning of the game so there’s no guarantee they jumped at the idea of participating in the killing game. Flashback Lights can be completely fake memories.
@@tonyg9775 another thing that doesn't make sense is if Tsumugi can only cosplay fictional characters, that totally contradicts the scene where she breaks out after cosplaying as Kaede. Idk man, knowing Danganrompa I'm sure these can be explained in the next game but I'd be extremely disappointed if all these plot holes don't mean anything.

In V3, all the characters are basically "real people" in their universe knowing that the first 2 games, UDG, and the anime exist in their world like ours.
The Flashback Lights alters people's memories, thus causing Kaede & Shuichi and the rest to act like the fictional characters they are. However, they're *still real people*. Tsumugi was one of the production crew using her Ultimate Talent of being a Cosplayer, so she can dress up as past Danganronpa characters just fine. That's why she broke out in her CosPox hives when she tried showing Kaede that she can't cosplay real people by wearing her clothes. Kaede and everyone since past Danganronpa 4 all the way to V3 are all real people.
A lot of people hate this game, but it just fucked with players' expectations SO hard and I loved it for it.
I like how, back on Twitch, the chat continuously said "It's You!" when Crystal was introduced to Tsumugi..

I just wanted to say I really appreciate how Crystaahhl doing the voices adds to these streams - you've gotten really good at picking up the feel of each character, if that makes sense? In particular it really helped Himiko grow on me.

I’m sure you get a lot of recommendations for games, but I recommend the game Your Turn To Die. It’s a death game… game by majority and it’s really good, even though it’s not finished yet.
