I really appreciate how you allowed the viewers (me) to take a moment to recognize what you as a sailor are looking for on the gauges of the boat, as well as the extent you go to make sure we get to see the unseen things for non-sailors and prospective-sailors alike. Little things like watching dinner being made on the boat, anchoring for the night and identifying/repairing the furler jam, crunching quick clearance numbers to pass beneath the bridge - all while using fine editing to keep things moving and interesting. Looking forward to episode 10!

Great job on the videos, Im glad the length is long. I can't seem to get enough of all the videos but the videos like this one and the Bermuda and Portugal trip are some of my favorites, but I think this is my new favorite. Hope to see a lot of Iceland. I think the amount of likes shows that everyone is liking them as much as I am. Thank you.
Thank you for the feedback T I Z. We weren't sure if people would like our videos being longer. We're really looking forward to filming in Iceland soon! This just purchased a lot of new video equipment including two amazing quadcopters for aerial footage, camera jibs and sliders, and an incredible moving time lapse machine.

Great series so far, really enjoying it. Loved the look on your face after realizing the jam in the roller. That self defeated look when you realize that you just proudly decided to leave harbor and sail around the world only to find that you had rigging running across chain. Sure lot of people can relate to that feeling. Keep up the good work.

New furling systems can be tricky to set up. I think you'd be better off with the staysail line running to port. Harken makes affordable little blocks that will bolt to your pulpit and stanchions. What I like about them is they are easy to adjust so you can tweak the system as needed.

Great Video Thanks! On my Kirby 25 I used to swing the boom out and sit on the end to get under the St Anne De Bellvue bridge in Montreal.
Loved it, Drake. I know I've seen some of it before, but this is just what I needed after a shift behind the yacht club bar, reminds me of why I'm there, and what I'm going to do this summer - though with more sailing and less motoring (I hope)! Thank you.

Loved the extended length of this one.
Real nice and fitting to air this video now, as it's a year ago. The start of a long trip at what is pretty much the end of winter. Gives one a real feeling of optimism.

I plan to make the trip through the ICW in 2017. I'm in the Pacific Northwest and prepping my Camper Nicholson 33 for a circumnavigation of the Americas by way of Patagonia. Great videos, very professional. And they are very instructive, not just a travelogue. I like all the little details that you reveal about how to operate a boat. It really is a complicated process.
Drake, Just got home from 3 week vacation to New Orleans. Love your video! Love how many improvements you have made. And yes going under a bridge was also scary for us! Michael said the same thing..He wanted a trawler, that's why we sold Paragon. I hated that trawler. Hope you are both doing well.

Wish I was unboard, but I wouldn't be much help the little I've known about sailing is from watching you and Cruising Lealea's channel.
If you weren't able to fit under that bridge is there another route that you could have taken?
What do you think about Catamarans, have you ever sailed or sailed on one?
Jadah J. Hi Jadah, our other option was to go offshore and around North Carolina's famous Cape Hatteras, also known as "the graveyard of the Atlantic" but because of the higher frequency of bad weather at that time of year, we really wanted to the the ICW instead.

Fabulous video! Absolutely wonderfully done! A great depiction of the cruising life - the camaraderie between you all is matched by the beautiful surroundings. The boat looks great, too. I never thought about using the roller furler to augment the windlass - Brilliant LOL!

I just tried the chicken wrap myself tonight and it was good.
This show NEEDS to be on PBS for everyone to enjoy. You guys have a polished show, great sound, music, editing and lots of great personal chemistry. I would love to see this picked up as a series. Why don't you submit it to PBS?
I think things are going good right here. Not as much exposure. But I think that's a plus.
My guess is that even PBS would tell Drake what content he MUST submit.
One thing leads to another, and before long Drake and crew are the next Duck Dynasty or Gold Rush.
Accept things the way they are. Even embrace them, if you think how things could go from raw spontaneity to tedious commercialism.
They should submit to Globetrekker on PBS. If anything they could get a full-time camera person to film and edit for them. Plus all expenses paid!
Professional camerapeople are like ninjas, you never know they are there. They would only need one.
The entire cast of Ghost Hunters swears by them, prior to that they filmed the show themselves and it was really hard. Jason Haws has commented many times that he forgets they are there, they never make a sound, they never get in the way, and they catch everything. it would take Drak's show up a huge notch.

You can improve your editing by speeding up so we get to follow you every day! On a more serious note, I think you guys have it nailed. I sit here entralled with each episode and you don't do anything bad with your editing that I can see. The sound levels are spot on and the level of conversation is great. Just wish I could be there as well!

You have probably found out how to fix the furling line problem by now. If You haven't I will suggest routeing the jib furling line trough the fore most block. It looks like the stay sail furling line is being pulled down using that block so perhaps it's better suited with the one on the rail.
Just a land lubbers opinion :)

you need to watch dead calm again. it was a 75' boat fyi, storm vogel.
Thats better then any TV show that's on! I see your using a swivel for your anchor chain. We anchor out all the time, but we're thinking of removing it. I find that with it sitting in the mud it doesn't allow itself to spin, so the chain still hops off the gypsy. When we do haul everything up it's just packed with mud and takes a couple turns by hand to loosen it up. Do have the same problem or does yours seem to work well?

Our plans are always reevaluating our plans, but right now we are thinking of staying in Iceland for the next 3 months, then sailing to the Faroe Islands and exploring there for 3 months, then sailing to Norway for the Winter. In the Spring we want to sail to Svalbard. We see what happens next! :) Thanks for sailing with us,

+Roy Colley Hi Roy, Yes I did see Robert Redford's movie 'All is Lost' a while ago and mostly I remember thinking that if there was a hole in my boat with ocean water coming in then I would not be hesitating to stuff anything into the hole to slow the ingress of water. But my favorite sailing scene that I like to poke fun at is in the movie Dead Calm, especially the scene where Nicole Kidman is standing on top of the spreaders in a gale with one hand holding on to the mast and the other holding the binoculars she's using to search for the other boat. not likely..

Hi Terry, The lamps are made by are Den Haan and are called 'Brass Clipper Lamp' and list cost $249 at Westmarine. When they are new they are really shiny and beautiful, but over the years they do loose their finish. We love the atmosphere they create.

There is something I don't quite understand, a westsail 42 has a draft of 5'8" or there abouts and your depth sounder at 24.33 said you had a depth of 2 feet. Is it that you can enter your draft into your Furuno. Yes I don't know anything about modern navigating tools.

It's a great question. We happen to have the depth sounder set to the bottom of the keel, as opposed to the water line, so that when it reads zero we are aground. I've seen people do it bother ways, but I think I prefer this way...zero is always bad. (✿◠‿◠)

hi drake your best video so far out of all of them i like how you checked how high your mast is under way so cool not perfect but gets you with in 2 feet or so. i tell you though even in my 25 foot hunter day sailor look at the mast and think well its never going to make it much less the 36 Catalina so i know its a hart stopping time for you on a 65 foot clearance and a 52 foot mast height so close. as all way far winds my friend
